Well said dj....we certainly have come a long way.....even from the beginning of this year where most odu fans said getting 1 caa win would be good and 2 would be gravy.
Now, if we don't go at least 4-4 in the caa it will be viewed as a disappointment. On a side note, any chance Bobby wilder will be voted caa coach of the year? It seems like a disappointing year for caa teams so far. I think it has to be between the Towson coach and wilder as they were both picked to finish last and second to last and right now both are looking like upper half of the standings calibur teams.
Love the enthusiasm, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
We played a good game vs Umass to get to 1-1 in the conference following a tough defeat to Delaware.
If we lose Saturday, we'll be 1-2 with our easiest game behind us. Win Saturday, and we set up a big matchup back at home with towson (can't believe I just said that). This game @ URI is huge for us, and we are starting a true frosh at QB and Goodwyn is out). We'll have our hands full Saturday.
When Maxine Waters reaches the pearly gates, I hope St. Peter bitch-slaps her with a large, wet teabag

Wait....what? What happened to DeMarco?
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

OK. You got me. I'm not sure if you are joking or really don't know.

Did he get hurt? I follow Towson, we kinda had a pretty big game last weekend.
Got hurt on a designed run at the 9:00 minute mark in the 2nd quarter. He gutted it out until the half but emerged from the lockerroom in sweats (high ankle sprain). The backup QB had a sore shoulder so we took the redshirt off of our future and he went wild. 8-11 119 yards and 2 TD's along with some decent runs. This is the kid that was the Georgia POY last year. Also had to remove the redshirt from a TFr RB who was the VA AAA POY last year.
DeMarco will suit up this weekend but may only be the placeholder on kicks. Towson game is a big ????
2 games into the CAA and we are feeling the effects.
mcveyrl wrote:I think Wilder will be a strong asset for ODU in preparing for this game (obvious, I know, but for other reasons). It's hard to really describe to players the dichotomy of venues in the CAA. If the players are thinking they're going to show up and get fired up by a rowdy/hostile crowd, they will be looking at a big letdown. It seems like this happens at least once a year to JMU. Last year at Maine we were coming off a big win over W&M and then almost completely pooed the bed going up to Maine. I think Wilder's northeast roots will help prepare them for this, but it's hard telling if it will be enough.
Rhode Island averaged 4,613 last year. ODU almost has as many people at one game as they had all of last year. It's hard to get fired up when you get out there and the free safety can hear the right tackle fart...I'll be interested to see how ODU responds.
Mickey has made this point before...players see small facilities with small crowds and they can be tricked into believing they're playing a high school team, so they don't bring their best game. He has to remind his team that they ARE good and can beat you.
I know ODU has played in front of schools with smaller facilities than URI...but those actually WERE high school teams.

Yeah things go south when your are playing young inexperienced players. It gets worse when they get hurt and you have to play even younger and more inexperienced players. See Towsons's last two years.

The computer http://www.compughterratings.com/CFB/matchups" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has us winning rest of our games EXCEPT a tie vs JMU and a LOSS to Towson. Ironic that at the beginning of the season Towson was the only game we were given a chance to win.
As far as backups are concerned; as a startup with increasing visibility each year, many of our backups are better than our starters.
Andy, next week should be a great match-up....that's for sure. Hope Towson wins today...don't want them to have any extra incentive to play great next week when they come to Norfolk.
How about that true freshman Taylor Heineke?! Something like 26-32 for 205 yards, 3 TD's and ZERO INT's!!!

Very impressive. And I forget who was saying your punter was you pre-season MVP or something, but after seeing those kicks, not bad. MoFo was crushing them.
He'll get alot of practice next Saturday.
