That would be a tough proposition (even though it would never happen)

They're 2-1 in conference ... much better than I thought they could be at this point, BUT, Towson is legit it seems, and having Towson, JMU, UR, and WM is not going to be an easy stretch, even if UR and WM are down. I predict a loss to Towson, a win @Nova, Loss to JMU, beat UR at home, and lose on the road to WM. 7-4 (4-4). On the other hand, I have Towson going 8-3 (6-2).

I said this over on AGS, but I cannot see ODU having any shot at 7-4. Even at 8-3 ... ODU will be a tough sell. In the 7-win scenario I list above, I see no "quality" wins ... Umass and Richmond won't be playoff contendors, Hampton, Campbell and Georgia State are a joke of OOC (in the committee's eyes), Rhode Island and Nova are two worst teams in the league ... no quality wins = no playoffs for ODU.

Even if they go 8-3 and can beat, say, a WM and UR, those two teams I have finishing around 5-6/6-5, along with UMass ... so add that to URI and Nova who should both be around 2-9/1-10 ... and you still have zippy quality wins.

Beat Towson or JMU and go 8-3 ... and you have that quality win that could get you in. It starts this weekend, folks.
I will make this bet right now: If ODU goes 8-3, I GUARANTEE they are in the playoffs. GUARANTEED. There is no way on God's green earth the committee leaves out an 8-3 CAA team...I don't care if their 8 victories are against the Little Sisters of the Poor. There are countless examples EXACTLY like you described above from the days of a 14-team CAA where teams got in at 8-3, 9-2 without a SINGLE quality win on their schedule. COUNTLESS.

8-3=Guaranteed playoff slot.

THat being said, I think ODU ends up 6-5. :coffee:

Eh, but those teams likely had a quality OOC schedule, at least ... ODU has Hampton, Campbell and Georgia State. If they were to beat Richmond, WM, Umass, Rhode Island and Villanova ... I doubt one ... if any of those teams, will have more than 5 wins ... of course that's if they go 8-3 and beat UR and WM ... which would indicate those teams are as bad as they look right now. I can't imagine an 8-3 team with no wins against teams that have more than 5 wins ... eh

Those 8-3 teams of the old CAA llikely had at laest ONE win against someone who was 7-4 I would imagine

It don't matter. The committee has shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that ANY victory over ANY team currently residing in the CAA is considered a quality win. I will walk naked down main street if the committee leaves out an 8-3 CAA team. Ain't gonna happen.

Whoa there Duke Dog. Agree with UMass, but don't give us crap about URI. Wasn't it you that talked about how difficult is is to play in an empty stadium against CAA teams? Give us at least a little credit for the road win. Also give us credit for winning on the road with a true freshman making his first start. And that true freshman played the second half of the UMass game. And one more thing, I don't disagree too much with what you are saying but it is a little too premature to be talking about any of this. :D

Not to mention, you don't thing the FCS playoff committee will be the LEAST bit interested in, oh, I don't know, expanding the viewership of FCS football into the Hampton Roads area? 1.7 million people with no pro sports to watch, a fairly shaky interest in VT and UVA and a fledgling ODU team (possibly matching up with crosstown rival Norfolk St. in the first round?).

Nah, I'm sure they could care less about that. The fact that we played Campbell the first game of the season is exactly the reason they need to keep us out lol.

8-3 and we are in, guaranteed. Hell even at 7-4. if we offer up enough money I think there is a chance we could still get a game. Guess we will see. Alot of football left to be played before we start SERIOUSLY talking about that though.

The guy who said 6-5 though is nuts. If he wants to put his money where his mouth is on that one, I'm game.

That was me talking about the empty stadium and the score/game was about what I expected. Just looking at the boxscore, ODU came out flat but picked it up when they needed to. Any CAA road win is a good win.

It's never too early to talk playoffs on the internets! I say ODU is a lock at 8-3 and on a thin bubble at 7-4. If there are a few other CAA teams at 7-4 they are probably at the bottom of that list.

Bids aren't opened until after teams are selected.

And if last year's JMU isn't getting in at 6-5, no CAA team (or any other team for that matter) is getting in at 6-5. Not saying we deserved to be in at 6-5, but we had about as good a resume as you could have.

So you think because of your market, the NCAA is going to give you a at-large, regardless of who you've beaten? :?

If ODU is at 8-3 they are in. I don't care who their OOC schedule is against. I have them going 9-2, with a decent shot at a home game being that their bid should be pretty solid and they'd sell the place out even on Thanksgiving Day weekend.

Looking at their schedule, I like that Towson is their home game. Towson won't be rattled by the environment being that they play Maryland a couple weeks ago but it will help emotionally charge ODU. They avoid Maine AND New Hampshire and have 3 dumpster fires left on their schedule: Nova/Richmond/Bill and Mary. Barring a huge letdown, they are 9-2 with their two loses to top 10 teams.

If there are countless, you should be able to come up with 5 pretty quickly. I will even give you in Maine from 2008 and you give me the other 4. But you also need to tell me who was more deserving that year (here's a hint, the team that had the biggest beef in 2008 was another CAA team).

Any team from the Big Sky, CAA, SoCon, or MVFC is basically a lock at 7-4, providing they are all Division I wins. There's basically 0 chance that an 8-3 team from any of those four conferences doesn't get in.

That's true. One has to be careful with the independents, though. There was a case back in the late '90s where a 10-0 team was snubbed (after their fans chanted "Playoffs! Playoffs!" all game long in whipping Sac  ), probably because the schedule was too weak.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
