Sacramento State -- Played his first two college seasons (2004, 2005) at Sacramento State ... as a freshman, rushed for 858 yards and five touchdowns and caught six passes for 37 yards, earning co-Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year and honorable mention All-Big Sky and freshman All-America honors ... set career highs with 35 carries for 245 yards against Montana State ... as a sophomore, rushed for 768 yards and two scores and caught 17 passes for 176 yards en route to second-team All-Big Sky and team offensive MVP honors.

Vandenberg was a two-way standout in football at Campolindo High School in his hometown Moraga, Calif. (a 2005 graduate). At cornerback he led the state as a senior with 11 interceptions, plus he had 85 tackles, and was a first team All-Northern California selection at cornerback. He had 35 catches for 800 yards and nine touchdowns his senior year. He had 19 career interceptions.
