A two-position player, Mike Vandenberg is a transfer from the University of New Mexico where he played mostly wide receiver last season and he was a redshirt cornerback there in 2005. He will be a junior at UM.
Vandenberg was a two-way standout in football at Campolindo High School in his hometown Moraga, Calif. (a 2005 graduate). At cornerback he led the state as a senior with 11 interceptions, plus he had 85 tackles, and was a first team All-Northern California selection at cornerback. He had 35 catches for 800 yards and nine touchdowns his senior year. He had 19 career interceptions.
