Colonial Athletic Association Picks for Week #12

Post by ODUalum11 »

Maine @ New Hampshire
William & Mary @ Richmond
Towson @ Rhode Island
James Madison @ Massachusetts
Delaware @ Villanova

Bonus/Future CAA pick....

Campbell @ Georgia State

My picks...

Maine, this is a toss up. really don't know who to pick.
William & Mary, I still don't believe Richmond will go winless but if Grimes went off like he did against ODU...
Towson, very impressive against UNH and believe it will carry over to the URI game.
James Madison, last game for UMass in the FCS...
Delaware, the Blue Hens get to 7 wins...

Campbell, if the Panters can't beat NAIA and D-2 teams in consecutive weeks, what makes anybody think they will suddenly beat a D-1 team.

Don't hate on Ga State. They STILL believe:
I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't swap GSU for ODU. Sure, they are having a great year but they have nowhere near the potential of GSU. We're like the kid who couldn't walk until he was two and went on to be a track star. We're still trying to get our chubby legs moving but we'll get there, and when we do, ODU will be in the rearview. None of us should talk about withholding money or support. This team needs us to stand by them. I'm pissed beyond words but we'll mock this season while drinking beer at the 2017 GSU-ECU tailgate.

You sir are delusional. JMU might not beat UMass, but not a snowballs chance in hell the CAA's #1 defense against the run, #2 against the pass, #1 in Points Allowed, and #1 in Total Defense gives up 38 to UMass, even with a non offensive TD. In the last 3 seasons the # of times JMU has given up more than 28 to a I-AA= ZERO.

For once, it was the offenses that dominated the CAA this season. No one should expect any semblance of a defense by the CAA representatives in the playoffs except for Maine. We're gonna look like 4 Big Sky teams out there (unless JMU sneaks in). That's not necessarily a bad thing...our offenses are pretty good.

This ought to help JMU, who also leads the CAA in sacks BTW:

"....The Minutemen have had three different starting quarterbacks over the last three games.
Kellen Pagel was the No. 1 quarterback, but he was hurt late in the Richmond game which forced UMass to go with his backup, Brandon Hill. But Hill injured his arm in the Villanova game, forcing UMass to go with Ray Pendagast against Maine......

.....On paper it appears as if Pendagast struggled. He had one interception and fumbled three times. But two of the fumbles were strip sacks when the Black Bears sent an all-out blitz and the third was a shotgun snap that went awry.
The redshirt freshman played very well in the first half, but struggled some in the second when Maine got more of a pass rush on him. Considering it was his first action at quarterback in his college career, Pendagast certainly earned the right to compete with Pagel and Hill this week for the season finale against James Madison....."

Defense wins championships, especially when talking about Dec playoff games in less than ideal conditions. Punishing running games and defense are at a premium. Smashmouth. Thats why I don't see any CAA team making the title game.

Off the top of my head 6 of the last 7 teams to appear in the NC game: UD 03', JMU 04', UMass 06', UR 08', Nova 09', UD 10' all had very good defenses and very good running games. The only one that didn't have a real good defense was UD 07' but had Flacco at QB, and a stud tailback in Omar Cuff, good OL & offensively could still smashmouth. The rest weren't teams with great finesse offenses, mediocre to poor defenses like Towson, UNH, & ODU. They were built for December smashmouth teams.

They've completely lost their grip on reality. Renting the Ga Dome and bringing 5,000 fans does NOT mean you have more potential than ODU. Just ask West Alabama or St. Francis.....or Lambuth. Jesus.

Maine 51 UNH 48 - Game goes 3OT - UNH gets dropped to an opening round game, quarterfinal streak in jeopardy
W&M 24 UR 17 - Spiders didn't look interested vs UD last week - Grimes go out in style - 150+
TU 38 URI 28 - The Tigers finish strong in front of the smallest crowd this year in the CAA over/under 2,100
JMU 27 UMass 21 - Minutemen swan song is an L - if Pagel was playing & healthy I'd go UMass but w Thorpe back go with the Dukes
UD 31 VU 14 - Hens motivated to end losing streak to a overly young Mildcat team - and yes, they are serving ice cold beer at PPL Park!!!

JMU needed 3 of the 5 to lose to highly likely get in:

-Ill State to lose to UNI, and they did. Ill State 7-4 vs I-AA, 0-2 vs playoff, 2 losses to non playoff, 1 loss to 2-9 E Ill, might get in, but behind JMU

-YSU to lose to SIU, and they did. YSU eliminated at 6-5.

-Indiana State to lose to Missouri State, and they did. Indiana State eliminated at 6-5.

-Furman to lose @ Florida, and they did. FU eliminated at 6-5.

-Wofford to lose @ Chattanooga. Wofford won 28-27.

JMU having 4 of those other 5 contenders for the last 3 spots lose was more than I expected. Great news for JMU.
