Down Year For The CAA?

Post by 93henfan »

I think what I've been saying for a couple of months was confirmed today. Of course, if Maine could run the table it might turn some heads, but I don't see it happening.

I know you're gonna disagree 93', but I think the ODU/GSU game was two really good teams that were wrongly mismatched in the 2nd round (ODU getting a 1st round game was kinda a joke and it showed today). Otherwise, yeah, the results today proved the CAA was down. No refuting the results (love playoffs).

As someone without a dog in the fight - I agree.

That said. Them's the raspberries.

As for the thread... the CAA took it in the shorts this year... damn.

How about the SoCon?

I mean hell, GSU was going to be in the BCS title game, but yet they gave up 40+ points to a team that was better than Alabama. App totally folds like they have without Lawnmower Armanti and Wofford just showed they are not that smart.

Big Fluffy baby. If MSU and Montana play in the semis, it will be for the National Championship.

The way I look at it is that the CAA had 4 teams today that could have won their games.

People will look at the Towson loss and think thats a game the CAA should have easily won over a Patriot team, but Lehigh is DAMN good and people should just forget their league right now because they have a great shot of going to Frisco.

UNH lost in the final seconds to the Big Sky co champ while ODU lost by 1 score to the Southern champion, two schools that are very good as were their opponent.

The only real mismatches today were the Maine blowout of Southern powerhouse Appalachian State and James Madison getting easily handled by the Missouri Valley champ.... but James Madison was probably lucky to be in the playoffs anyway.

Did the CAA lose 4 of 5 today? Yes, but I wouldnt call it a down year.

Yes, this was a down year in terms having a clear defined 1 or 2 really good team(s). This year there was just no power house. We didn't have a top 5 team which normally we do. Don't be shocked if Maine gets going though...

Next year the CAA will return to form.

And they both only had two teams in. CAA had 5, and their champ lost at home. Maine looked impressive, but App also looked really flat.

Down year for both the CAA and the SoCon. Heck, Appy gets just flat our spanked at home and GSU gets exposed as a fraud with zero defense.

With that said, I'd watch out for Maine. They looked great early in the year and then finished quietly or out of the limelight, but they look like the real deal.

I don't buy the "down year" argument. I think it disrespects the teams that made the playoffs. 4 of the 5 CAA teams that made the playoffs had to play on the road. It's tough to win on the road in the post season.

ODU and UNH went toe to toe on the road with two of the top teams in FCS. I have no complaint about their efforts.

JMU just lost to a better team, they have nothing to be ashamed of.

The Towson loss is tough, but I think many people underrated Lehigh. The Patriot rep frequently plays well in the post season (a big part of the reason that I thought 8-3 Georgetown should have been in the playoffs). This result is disappointing for Twoson, but not a shock to me, if it weren't for The_Fan being so over the top, I would have been championing Lehigh's case.

I've been saying all along that I think Maine can play with anyone in FCS. We'll see if I'm right.

Of the three CAA playoff teams we faced in the regular season, it was clear that Maine was the strongest. I just think that a second week of tough travel and a GSU defense that is going to be angry and taking nothing for granted after watching the film on Monday is going to be too much for the Black Bears.

I don't know about a "down" year, but I do know that a d@#$ good CAA team got snubbed for a bogus E KY squad that clearly didn't belong.

fully agree here

the CAA Champion Towson barely lost by 2 points to one of the teams that is going to play in Frisco.

not that you have a freaking clue about anything, but the odu team you faced with Thomas Demarco wasn't even close to the odu team that played today with Taylor heineke.

Heineke ended his season with over 3,000 total yards in 7 1/2 or 8 1/2 games with 29 total touchdowns and 1 interception on a last play of the game hail Mary.

Playing Demarco and not Heineke was a huge break for Delaware.

And yes, our defense was terrible today. It's tough when you are forced to switch a freaking WR to play corner because your top 4 cb's are all out but those are the breaks. I'm not even sure with a completely healthy roster we would have been able to stop the triple option today.

But regardless, I think odu may very well have gone toe to toe today with the soon to be fcs national champs. I don't think Maine will stop gsu any better than odu did and there offense definitely won't put up 48 on them.

We will see next week which team played gsu better.......Maine or odu. But regardless, judging odu based on what you saw with Demarco in there as opposed to heineke is just silly.

But i honestly don't expect anything but that from you.
