FWIW, he has a son who's currently attending high school in Norfolk...plus he genuinely sounds like he's happy at ODU, says he's "living the dream"....Ivytalk wrote:10 years? I give it 3. First decent FBS offer he gets, he's outta there.

So true. It is interesting that it is incentive based. I would think that breaking the contract would be easier because the buyout would be cheaper.State Line Liquors wrote:It's nice to see he's being rewarded by ODU for his results.
Just try to keep it in perspective that the extension really has no bearing on whether or not he actually stays there for another 10 years.

I agree with you entirely.CAA Flagship wrote: ....
With that said, who do you think are the top programs from a coach's perspective?

Yeah, I'm saying at least in the top 15. History is the only thing lacking, but when it comes to 17 year olds, they don't know much history of FBS schools, let alone FCS schools so maybe I'm overstating it a bit.State Line Liquors wrote:I agree with you entirely.CAA Flagship wrote: ....

RE: the quoted question, I think ODU falls in the list. I'm not going to name all the names since it'll turn this thread into a clusterfvck, but there are perhaps 3 or 4 others in the CAA that I'd think are highly desirable, and probably 7-10 others around the country. ODU from a total picture standpoint I'd think is certainly a top 10 choice for an FCS level coach.

Ordinarily I would agree with you. Loyalty today is nothing more than a quaint concept. But I think this situation is a little different. This is not just a job to Wilder. It is his baby. He created it. Every aspect of ODU football is of his creation and I am thinking that because of that he has more than just a passing interest in it. Time will tell. For the moment though we are happy to have him inked long-term.Ivytalk wrote:10 years? I give it 3. First decent FBS offer he gets, he's outta there.

ps. Message boards don't count.
You do realize Delaware pays the highest coach's salary in FCS, right? With this total package, Wilder is getting close to Keeler's base, but nowhere near his total compensation.MonarchMan wrote:This is one reason why I feel Coach Wilder will stay here. We WILL pay him a good salary. This isn't Delaware you know (sorry Delaware fans, I just couldn't help that one).

So what are your thoughts on that? Keeler gets big bucks while you guys get..........handrails.93henfan wrote:You do realize Delaware pays the highest coach's salary in FCS, right? And three national championship games since 2003. 11-3 playoff record. Not a bad tradeoff. Our stadium's big enough at 22K+.CAA Flagship wrote:So what are your thoughts on that? Keeler gets big bucks while you guys get..........handrails.93henfan wrote:
