FWIW, ODU also got one of the transfers, fullback Rahsaan Moore. However, he's going to be moved to defensive end. There's also rumors that UD will get one of them as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if Towson did too.

He said JMU was a top defense?

Sorry, I've been channeling my inner lakes. Good get for JMU though.

Travis Hawkins was an immediate impact player for the Hens at DB this year after transferring from the Terps.

Re: JMU gets 4 star DB transfer from MD
I agree JMU only looked like a mediocre at best defense vs NDSU. It didn't help that our 4 yr starting, 3rd team All CAA LB went down in the 1st half with a sprained ankle. Had a couple of other guys on de go down in the 2nd half. 4th qtr DJ Bryant, JMU's 1st team All CAA de, gets his bell rung and is being examined for a concussion- he didn't go back in the last couple of series. Remember that great stiff arm on the JMU DB by the NDSU RB on the 60 yard TD run in the 4th qtr? That DB was our backup safety- 3rd team All CAA starter was out.rkwittem wrote:He said JMU was a top defense?![]()

I'm making excuses for the defense not looking good- not making excuses for losing- those guys don't go down JMU still loses, but its closer and the defense looks better.
JMU had the top defense in the CAA. I realize it was a down year for CAA defenses, but no other team was even close. Will have a good de next yr, and this Titus guy should make JMU even better.
FWIW I'm rooting for NDSU to win the NC- that whole transitive thing- would like to be able to say JMU on their 3rd straight plane trip road game, no bye, lost by less than 2 TDs to the eventual NC at their place.

Yep, Hawkins was a 4 star transfer that made 2nd team All CAA in his 1st season.93henfan wrote:Travis Hawkins was an immediate impact player for the Hens at DB this year after transferring from the Terps.

JMU returns both starting safeties. FS Jakarie Jackson will be a senior & 3 1/2 yr starter. WS Dean Marlow will be a rSo, 2nd yr starter, and was 3rd team All CAA.
But JMU might scrap the 4-3 that ran this season and go back to the 4-2-5 that JMU ran from 04'-10', in which case will need a 3rd starting safety, a SS, which in the 4-2-5 is like a hybrid safety-LB. If JMU switches back to their 4-2-5 Titus would be the leading candidate to start their, with Peter Rose, former 3 star VT signee who missed All of Spring-Sept with the legal issue, being the other.

HARRISONBURG – Safety Titus Till – one of six players transferring from the University of Maryland after football coach Randy Edsall’s first year – will enroll at James Madison this spring, he said Monday.
He’s also hoping to bring some friends with him.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Till, who played safety at Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Md., redshirted in 2010. This past year, the redshirt freshman had 47 tackles in 11 games.
He visited JMU over the weekend and said he committed at the end of his stay in Harrisonburg.
“I just loved the family atmosphere there that James Madison showed, the coaches, the players, together as a team,” Till said Monday. “It seems like the reason for their success the past years has been their closeness.”
Till said he thinks he can help what has been traditionally one of the Colonial Athletic Association’s best defensive units.
“Already being a top defense, I can raise that defense to the next level,” Till said.
Till said he’s hopeful freshman running back Jeremiah Wilson, a former Handley High School star, will transfer to JMU as well, and he plans on lobbying defensive tackle Dave Mackall to become a Duke. Wilson (5-10, 185) and Mackall (a 6-3, 240-pound sophomore) could not be reached for comment Monday.
A source said JMU would like to add two or three Maryland transfers.
Till, Mackall, Wilson and running backs D.J. Adams and Rahsaan Moore and offensive tackle R.J. Dill have all announced their intentions to transfer from Maryland and have been granted their releases by Edsall, the former Connecticut coach who presided over one of the worst seasons in Terrapin history this fall.
“It just wasn’t a good fit for me,” said Till, who was recruited by former coach Ralph Friedgen. “I wasn’t happy with the coaching situation change. After Coach Friedgen was fired, this wasn’t the team I was recruited to.”
At JMU, Till will be able to participate in spring practice with the team. The Dukes return their two starting safeties, junior Jakarie Jackson and redshirt freshman Dean Marlowe. Marlowe was fourth on the team in tackles this year, with 71 stops, and had a team-high four interceptions, helping JMU to an 8-5 record and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. Jackson was fifth with 49 tackles and had two interceptions.
Madison switched from a three-safety alignment to a more conventional base 4-3 with two safeties this year.

Looking at their game stats he played in 11 games, started 6. Was on 2 deep, but not starting last game with NC State.

Towson's offense moved the ball at will against Maryland, at least while the game was still competitive - without the turnovers they could well have won that game.andy7171 wrote:Edsall is in trouble. And is Maryland bringing back the wacky uniforms next season? The clown metaphor was particularly apt this season...

Two touchdown drops in the first half. The score at halftime should have been 17-7 Towson.

Well, looks like it will either be JMU or Towson. Whoever gets him will be a huge pickup. He is a another 4 star. After a season at FUMA, was on the MD 2 deep as a "true Fr" last season, according to the MD stats played in 8 games, started 7 this season.andy7171 wrote:Mackall has been in contact with Towson's Terrance West. Didn't know that West PGed a season at FUMA. I assumed he was a class of 2011, not 2010. JMU probably gets an avg of one-2 guys a yr from FUMA. While technically true Fr, they are a yr older than the signees straight out of HS, the same HS class as the 2nd yr players, with a yr of college level football under their belt, but don't lose a yr of eligibility. Much better system than JUCO where you lose eligibility.
JMU's roster this season had 6 former players from FUMA's PG team. 5 were on the 2 deep, 4 played as "true Fr", and 2 were starting.

Looking at the stats, I can't find anything on Moore having played. He never was on the 2 deep. Maybe he played some on special teams.
Till on the other hand played in 11 games, started 6, and was 7th on the team in tackles.
Mackall started 8 games at DE & was 3rd on the team in sacks.

Re: JMU gets 4 star DB transfer from MD
Like I said, big catch for UD if that turns out to be the case. He will be starting at DE for whoever gets him and should be an instant impact player.henfan wrote:Rumors are that Mackall may be headed to Delaware.

JMU gets another Rivals 3 star commit:
Initially verbaled Nova, then de committed. Also had offers Army, Fordham, UNH.
"................Bedell was named co-winner of Newsday's Hansen Award earlier this month as the most outstanding football player in Suffolk.
He rushed for 2,532 yards, the fourth highest single season total in Long Island history. His 39 total touchdowns tied him for third.
In last month's Class I Long Island Championship, Bedell rushed for an LIC-record 417 yards and had four touchdown runs of 51 yards or more as Floyd defeated East Meadow, 54-47. That followed his 36-carry, 258-yard performance in the Suffolk championship against Sachem North.............."

Hindsight is 20-20, but after NDSU's 24 pt. shutout of Lehigh and 28 point blowout of GSU, I'd say JMU's D looked pretty good against NDSU...even with the injuries. Next year the D should be even stronger, and getting a top transfer won't hurt.BDKJMU wrote:I agree JMU only looked like a mediocre at best defense vs NDSU.

Sorry, I've been channeling my inner lakes. Good get for JMU though.
I'm making excuses for the defense not looking good- not making excuses for losing- those guys don't go down JMU still loses, but its closer and the defense looks better.

Re: JMU gets 4 star DB transfer from MD
JMU got another UMD transfer committment. RB Jeremiah Wilson ... who was recruited as a CB and was the #69 CB coming out of highschool. JMU is already STACKED at RB (Scott, Anderson will be Juniors, Latney will be a soph, Highly recruited Dejor Simmons will be a r-fr, and the aformentioned Beddell) ... I bet Wilson switches back to CB to play with his buddy Till at safety.
That makes another 3-star recruit, likely on defense, in addition to 4-star safety Till. I believe both will be sophmores. Maryland's loss is JMU's gain ... and would be even more so if JMU can get 4-star transfer Mackall at DE.

I think Simmons will be a r-soph. Pretty sure he played some this year.JmuSkinsfan wrote:JMU got another UMD transfer committment.
