New turf at the Alerus Center

The Alerus is a city insititution that has never, as far as I know made any money. Britney Spears is living off Grand Forks taxpayers!

Now a city building that is a big money loser is going to put in new turf for a million more than the same stuff is costing the Fabulous Fargo Dome. The alerus is anxious to get the tax payers of the state to kick in some change through UND. UND is a tenant, not an owner. Its improper for them to invest in the facility. If the facility cant recover the costs through rents there is a problem with the building, not that people arent well aware of that now.

Back to the questions:

1) why is the alerus paying a million dollars more than the Fabulous Fargo Dome for the same product?

2) Is it appropriate for the taxpayers in the state to pick up part of the tab.

I see darell was angrily accusing others of wrong doing to justify the wrongdoing going on at UND but generally pointing fingers is not acceptable as a well supported argument in your favor. It is actually an admission of failure.

Here is a look at the turfs again. This turf is costing 1 million less than the turf at the alerus, shown on the bottom. That extra million they are asking UND to pay!

This is not about NDSU. Its about UND, but the issue is more than pretty pictures of turf and people cooing over them. Nobody has answered the question about the million dollar premium UND appears to be paying.

There is also a legit question about a city facility asking a state insititution to make a capital investment in the facility. It doesnt look right.

the picture of the turf I posted isnt even NDSU turf. NDSU will play on it but its owned by the Fabulous Fargo Dome, the nations #1 FCS football facility and thats the point. UND a state institution, is going to invest in a city building and pay what appears to be a premium of about 1 million dollars? The UND turf is the same product that is being installed at the FFD. Estimated cost 4.5 million and the alerus center is asking UND for some cost sharing funds.

Couple Questions for all you UND fans out there:

1) Why do you think the Alerus is paying 1 million more than the Fabulous and insanely popular Fago Dome?

2) Do you think its appropriate that UND/North Dakota tax payers should be sharing in this cost?

In a properly equiped indoor facility, such as the insanely popular Fabulous Fargo Dome, football is played in perfect conditions. As a result the best football is played inside. A lot of fans feel that bad weather is good for their team because they are used to the harsh conditions outside. Of course they are looking for an advantage. At NDSU the only advantages we want and need are superior facilities and fans, superior coaching, superior athletes, superior training and superior knowledge and execution of the game.

Football inside is where the game is played to perfection.
