Darell: Our big beef with UND per se is strictly over the travel issue. The fan issue and the mascot issue are something else entirely. UND fans on this board are generally pretty collegial. We couldn't care less about the Sioux mascot and pretty much loathe the hardball stance the National Corrupt Athletics Administration is taking on it. The big issue there is the smack being run by the two NDSU trolls. (The other main NDSU posters, viz. TTBF, Wyobisonman, and a few others, are OK in my book. The two trolls are the real problem.) The travel deal is mainly this: you're way out in the middle of nowhere. That doesn't make your school or your team bad. It's just not cost effective to go out there (for non-football sports) unless another game can be arranged with someone else. That's it in a nutshell. It shouldn't reflect negatively on your school or your program. You just belong in a midwest conference, not out here.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Is it just football or basketball? IMO Cal Poly is further than Sacramento and they have had no problem going to Grand Forks.

SH summed it up quite well. (I can’t believe I just typed that.) :o

CP had no problem traveling to UND because they had no choice, and it was only for football every other year. They would still be making that trip if the BSC never expanded and never went back on allowing only full members. The CP and farm extension adds for football-only were pretty much just to block WAC expansion, BSC teams had no problem scheduling them for OOC games whenever they wanted to.

It’s the Olympic sport travel that is going to rape our budgets. Football will travel to UND about once every 4 years or so. But the other sports will not fair so well. Assuming the BSC continues scheduling the way it has; men’s & women’s hoops and volleyball will have to head to UND once a year. Women’s tennis, women’s soccer, and softball will have to travel out there every other year. Softball is a lovely case about just how amazing the UND add is. Softball gets pulled out of the travel and recruit friendly Pacific Coast Softball Conference and dumped into a newly formed BSC clusterfuck that takes away any regional rivalries that have been formed while in the PCSC (St. Mary’s, Santa Clara, Bako, USDiego, LMU). All in all, travel to UND is going to ding the bottom line pretty well.

Cedar City is almost the same distance, as is Flagstaff, AZ are they bitching about budgets? Again I think its 1 school in a conference of 11 (non football) that has a problem. If travel is such a problem for Sac St...go to the WCC.

SUU was in the same desperation UND was as far as looking for a conference home. And they landed in a conference with regional rivalries (WSU & NAU) that should generate better attendance. They are also closer travel for us so i have no complaints with their addition because unlike UND, adding SUU actually makes sense.

Gotta love how a UND fan is suddenly trying to call shots in the BSC. Maybe JBB is onto something about you guys.

IMO the UND addition is absolutely awful without USD as a travel partner for Oly sports. This addition will have a huge negative impact on our budget at possibly the worst financial time. :ohno:
I'd love to see UND's invite get revoked, but that probably isn't happening.
Regardless, because of the never-ending drama at North Dakota, UND is on the NCAA’s championship-host ban list. UND has to sell off all of their Fighting Sioux memorabilia and get a new nickname by next summer as part of their entry into the Big Sky. But there seems to be little movement toward changing the name, which should have happened months ago.
This guy is a total dumbass!!!! First UND has officially retired the name. UND cannot have a new name for 3 years. It is just North Dakota so that ends his championship host ban rant. Next retailers can sell as much Sioux stuff as they want until their stock runs out...NOT next summer. Why doesn't this guy get his **** straight before printing a bunch of lies. I am sure Terry Wanless doesn't like these lies posted about his former school.
Over? That is a stupid statement when there are petitions for TWO measures out there. The first one is a referendum on the legislature recinding the law that made the Sioux name manditory. The second one in a constitutional amendment that will make the Sioux name a requirement of the ND constitution. If either of those get on the ballot and pass, UND is screwed. And, they will make it on the ballot. Many of the signatures have already been gathered. How foolish for you to claim that this is over........ :tothehand:

Under the repeal initiative, if nickname supporters turn in petition signatures from at least 13,452 North Dakota voters by Feb. 7

The constitutional initiative requires supporters to collect signatures from at least 26,904 North Dakota voters by Aug. 8 in order to put the amendment to a vote in the November 2012 general election.

And......I actually hope the petitions fail. It makes the entire state look foolish and if this crap gets on a statewide ballot it could potential do a lot of damage to an important state institution.

There may be a possibility of a court challenge on the repeal of the legislatures November action repealing the law that mandated the Sioux nickname. But, the if they get the signatures on the petitions that will put the nickname requirement in the constitution.....there will be no appeal. That measure is by far the most dangerous to UND. This show is far from over.

He isn’t too popular with our fanbase either, but to his defense our Oly sports have been solid under his watch to the tune of somewhere in the neighborhood of 36 conference titles in 7 years. However that success needs to transfer over into the gridiron and hardwood. :coffee:

I want to get a North Dakota Fighting Sioux hockey shirt. I am not even remotely a hockey fan but that is still cool looking. Also I've watched a little bit of college hockey being played at their place and that is some atmosphere. Hopefully I can still get one.

More hate, but what would you expect as the latest addition to the hate filled culture of the BSC is being discussed?

The intent of the petition it to seek revenge on UND. Most of the people supporting it are simply useful idiots that have some kind of fetish over the name. A nice secondary affect is embarassement on the state, an insitituion that has been used by both UND and REA to the detriment of the Tribes.

It should also be noted that once the nickname/logo is reinstated by law the tribes are seeking all revenues generated by the use of the nickaname/logo.

Slogstang is hate filled and intolerant of opposing opinions and certainly will serve as another outstanding example of a UND useful idiot.

It's weird enough to speak of yourself in the third person. It then becomes totally over the top and beyond the pale to go to the trouble of making up a different, off-site fake identity for yourself and then "quote" the off-site, fake identity on cs.com.

March 31, 2012 is when the makers of "Sioux" apparel will stop making the stuff but retailers can sell all the Sioux gear they want to until their stock runs out. Go to siouxshop.com and stock up!! Or if you are in Grand Forks, or Fargo go to Scheel's sports...lots of Sioux stuff there.
