Didn't Shakir Bell finish 2nd in the Payton voting this last year? How would he be a 2nd team RB?

Nice to see Bump on that list. He and Leilon Willingham will be a great LB duo in Greeley.

Bumpas is a very good player. I think he could be special. Long arms. Runs well and does well in the box as well as chases plays.

Yes. I would have included him had he been in my top 5-7 LBs preseason but I only had him around 15 so I will probably put him in the top 3 not on my AA list.

He'd be a BB contender if he could stay healthy. Bad luck with that knee. :ohno:

Player A: 1670 rush yards (7.44 ypc) 110 recieving yards 42 KOR yards 1822 total 167.55 YPG 7.44 yards per play 245 total plays
Player B: 1294 rush yards (5.52ypr) 25 recieving yards 0 KOR yards 1319 total 119.91 YPG 6.63 yards per play 199 total plays
Player C: 1644 rush yards (6.6ypr) 414 recieving yards 0 KOR yards 2058 total 137.20 YPG 6.20 yards per play 332 total plays

Looking at that who do you pick? Who is who in spoil
Spoiler: show
A: Bell
B: West
C: Flanders
I'll tell you that the only, and I mean ONLY stat that either Flanders or West have over Bell is TD's. That can easily be accounted for when you look at the teams PPG over all - SHSU 4th in the nation @ 36.93 ppg, Towswon was 12th at 34.83 PPG, and Indiana State was 39th at 28.64 ppg. Give Bell the missing TD from Towson's score and he finishes with 25 TD's (even if he doesn't get that in every game he still finishes real damn close to Flanders of SHSU at 22. Two more TD's scored per game would likely give Bell 1.5ish more per game I'd bet which gives him 30-31 TD's and a head of West's 29.

Also when it comes to the Payton award you posted this on AGS

Someone asked me who my top 5 would be for each award. Here they are in no particular order.:

WALTER PAYTON WATCH
RB Shakir Bell, Indiana State, Jr., 5-8, 185
FB Eric Breitenstein, Wofford, Sr., 5-11, 225
RB Tim Flanders, Sam Houston State, Jr., 5-9, 210
WR Aaron Mellette, Elon, Sr., 6-4, 212
QB Brad Sorensen, Southern Utah, Sr., 6-5, 225

How is Bell at the top of that list, but can't get 1st team consideration?

No mention of ODU's Heinikie. This will not go over well when Norfolk wakes up.

I fully expect him to be on this list in a year from now. The three QBs I have on the list are all returning All-Americans or players of the year in their leagues. I also believe two of the three will play on Sundays. The ODU kid is very good but I would have put McGhee as 4th team of him as well.

It will be interesting to see what happens for Edwards with Brandon Kaufmann returning to EWU's line-up. You would think that both of their numbers suffer but they both have tremendous talent. Not that a WR has a realistic shot at winning the Payton anyway.

Jeff Mathews is the real deal. IF Cornell finds a defense, this could finally be the year that Cornell seriously challenges for the Ivy title.*

* Although we all know that Cornell, like Penn, isn't really part of the Ivy League.

Mathews is definitely the real deal. I think he and Sorensen will both play in the NFL. Mathews is the best Ivy League NFL prospect at QB in the last 10 years, IMO.

The only reason I don't have West in the top 5 is because he is a sophomore. If he were a junior or senior he would be.

None of whom led their team to the playoffs or were really difference makers in big games... Heineke was.

Stats are one thing... making the big plays that lead one's team to wins in arguably the best conference in the country and leading a start up to a playoff birth and a playoff win is quite another.

Can't put that just on the QB's head. Playoffs are a team accomplishment. I can safely say that without the 3 QBs I named their teams would not have had the records they had. I thought what Heineke did was impressive and he is certainly a top 5 QB but I just don't think you can say it is a huge snub if he is not in the top 3.
