BSC schedule
I think that the schedule format for the BSC sucks. I think that the conference needs to be split into a North south or east west division with a championship game at the end. It is possible for CAL Poly to win the BSC title without playing a Montana school. I think that cal poly will win the BSC as they have one of the most favorable schedules. MSU and UM can start the complaining now how they are better and that they can beat cal poly. I think this needs to be addressed. Thoughts?

You can't have a championship game & get an auto-bid to the playoffs.

That's the rule. I think it's because the NCAA considers it a postseason event and you're only allowed one of those.CatBlitz22 wrote:Why?Mvemjsunpx wrote:You can't have a championship game & get an auto-bid to the playoffs.
It doesn't matter, since there's no room on the schedule to have a conference title game anyway.

Re: BSC schedule
Is this a FCS rule?
If it is I think that if the BSC made it an issue that it would get changed and make room on the schedule. 7 team BSC division that would be 6 conference games and 4 out of conference and 1 for the championship problem solved.

I fixed the blunder in the typing sorry late night. But the premise of the argument still stands. How can you have a BSC champ if all the teams do not play or at least play in a division with a championship game at the end? Polsongrizz what is your solution?

Re: BSC schedule
What teams would go in what divisions? I think the Big Sky wanted to avoid divisions because of rivalry games this way you play 8 conference games out of the 13 teams so most if not all the rivalry games are still in place where if you split teams up in divisions you play say 6 conference teams some rivals may not play each other.

Except each team would only be playing half the conference.Sapper wrote:Is this a FCS rule?

What the Big Sky is doing is the same as the other FCS leagues with more than 9 teams (except the SWAC, of course).

Fighting Sioux controversy: Indian group pulls float from UND homecoming parade; tribal leader vows to block nickname use
Posted by: admin in Spirit Lake Nation, Sports, Standing Rock Sioux
The issue of whether the University of North Dakota will continue to use the Fighting Sioux nickname may have been delayed for a month, but the controversy continues to simmer.
Today’s homecoming parade will be short one float, that of the school’s Indian Association, according to this Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald story. The group pulled its float from the parade to protest the State Board of Higher Education’s decision to extend the deadline on the Fighting Sioux nickname. Earlier this week, the group staged a demonstration opposing the nickname.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe vows the tribal council will continue to oppose the nickname, even if it costs him the election, according to this AP story in the News from Indian Country.
“Let’s move forward with this,” says Chairman Ron His Horse Is Thunder. “We have beat each other enough as it is.”
Under an agreement between the state of North Dakota and the NCAA, which considers American Indian nicknames “hostile and abusive,” UND needs approval from the state’s two Sioux tribes to keep using the nickname. The Spirit Lake tribal council supports the name (although that stance faces some opposition), but wrangling within the Standing Rock tribe has delayed a vote.

Re: BSC schedule
Honestly, I haven't given it much thought. Mostly because we can complain all we want but it won't change much of anything. I agree with your argument but I highly doubt the ncaa will do anything about. The caa fans had the same bitches when they added this many teams.Sapper wrote:I fixed the blunder in the typing sorry late night. But the premise of the argument still stands. Re: BSC schedule
I don't think that the NCAA or BSC has a rule against having a championship game. To have a championship game the Big Sky would have to begin the season a week early or not have a bye week and I don't think any AD or coach would want to do that.

Who cares about the Big Sky championship? The only thing that matters is making the playoffs, and if you win enough you take care of your own business. I have zero problem with Poly being Big Sky champs while possibly not playing the top three teams next year.

I wouldn't mind it, but conference championship games require a LOT of logistics. Either the league covers it by designating a neutral site (SEC) or they fly by the seat of their pants and let the league season decide it (BSC hoops). The problem with Number B is that details are left in the hands of the host school AT THE LAST MINUTE. Plus, fans find out at the last minute, making travel arrangements that much more expensive. It's easier to schedule a flight to a known location before the season starts, then cancel if your team doesn't make it. Either way, you're still left with the decision to start early or to nix the bye, as Catattack said. All told, it's not all that palatable.
Come to think of it, this is probably why I don't like superconferences to begin with. It comes down to a question of "Do you or don't you?" Or in other words, "Damned if you do, damned if you don't." If you have the championship, you're stuck with THESE issues. If you don't, you have questions about who the champ is because two (or more) contenders haven't played on the field. But if BOTH make the playoffs, the pride issue probably isn't as important as the $$ and potential injury issues that would be involved in actually staging the big title games. And we haven't even started talking about getting media covereage. As in, would ESPN or the networks even bother? Probably not, because as much as they can get away with, they behave as if FCS doesn't even exist outside of grudging coverage of national playoff games, especially the title game.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

There is a Big Sky championship game this year...It will be played on November 17th in Missoula, Montana. You can book your tickets anytime between now and November 16th. There will be another Big Sky Championship in Frisco Texas in January...

Re: BSC schedule
Within two years, there will be 24 teams in the FCS playoffs.
That means there will be at minimum 3 Big Sky teams in the playoffs, and probably more often than not 4 big Sky teams. With the scheduling flexibility that the leauge will provide, does it really matter who gets the AQ?

Depends. We didn't have the AQ in 08, and EWU didn't have it in 10, but both teams got seeded. So I don't think the committee really cares about conference standings, just the final standings/schedules. A loss is a loss, OOC or conference.polsongrizz wrote:The only problem with that is we take a chance of not playing at home if the scenario happens as stated.Brock Landers wrote:Who cares about the Big Sky championship?
