Does Oregon's Thrashing Take Away from Appy St.'s Victory?
I felt that the broadcasters were headed in the direction of downing Michigan so much that they were taking good victories away from Appalachian State and Oregon. While I do agree that this team looks nothing like the Michigan teams of the past I do not want to cheapen the victory by Appalachian State. I was as proud of them as I was of George Mason in '06 when they went to the Final 4 in basketball and Appalachian State is not even in the CAA.

While I believe the AppSt victory was awesome and great for FCS and AppSt, I do believe that Michigan is/was overrated this year. They have a huge mountain to climb and the next week against ND will say alot also... Hopefully, for the sake of the young men, Michigan can rebound and salvage some of this season....
I am not a self professed expert on FCS football, I am just a fan and I can live with that!

I think it does take some of the "luster" away as Michigan obviously is not the team people thought they were. However, the fact that Appy beat them IN Michigan still is huge in my mind.

I don't care how you wanna look at it, we beat them in their own house, THE BIG HOUSE. Not many FBS teams can say that. Michigan is obviously not the #5 team in the country, we have all seen that, but they still have 3 Heisman like candidates, and not many teams in the country can say that. However, that is not their downfall. It is their horrendous defense that makes them a mediocre team. Luster or no luster, I'll take the win, the publicity, and all that has come with it any day. We are not competing for a bowl, so the luster really make no matter IMO.

The only "upset" that occurred was that the win took place @ Michigan. The poor Wolverines shouldn't feel too bad about that. They DID lose to the #1 team in the country. They shouldn't feel bad about THAT, should they?

Of course it takes some of the luster off - Michigan obviously isn't a top 5 team like their ranking showed before they played Appy St, and it was that ranking that was historical in terms of what Appy did, i.e. be the first FCS team to be a top 20 ranked FBS team. Oregon just simply manhandled Michigan even worse than Appy St did, and Oregon may only be the 4th or 5th place team in the Pac-10. It's a great win for the notoriety, but the historical impact of it lessens with each Michigan loss.

Well, personally I think Oregon will be #3 in the Pac-10, only losing to USC and UCLA, but I guess a loss to Cal is a possibility as well. Either way, it don't look good in the Little 10. And people say the Big Sky Conference is bad.....GannonFan wrote:Of course it takes some of the luster off - Michigan obviously isn't a top 5 team like their ranking showed before they played Appy St, and it was that ranking that was historical in terms of what Appy did, i.e. be the first FCS team to be a top 20 ranked FBS team. I think the Oregon win just proves that Michigan's weakness is speed. Oregon beat them worse because they've got speed on the bench as well as the starters.

Speed, or the lack thereof, is the weakness of the entire Big 10. They will get waxed---AGAIN---in most bowls they participate in.lizrdgizrd wrote:I think the Oregon win just proves that Michigan's weakness is speed. People keep saying that, but they did go 2-1 against the much vaunted SEC in bowl games last year - considering that 2 of those bowl games were played in the SEC's backyard, that's not too shabby.AZGrizFan wrote:Speed, or the lack thereof, is the weakness of the entire Big 10.
