FRISCO, Texas -- After leading his team to a come-from-behind win in its Southland Conference opener, Northwestern State's Germayne Edmond has been voted the league's offensive player of the week. Defensive honors go to Byran Richmond of Sam Houston State while Cory Long of Stephen F. Austin is the special teams honoree. Following is a look at their performances.
OFFENSE
GERMAYNE EDMOND, Northwestern State, QB, So., Daingerfield, Texas
Edmond overcame interceptions on consecutive attempts in the first quarter, accounting for 20 points and 333 yards as Northwestern State overcame first-half deficits of 14-0 and 21-7 to win the Southland Conference opener 31-28 over Central Arkansas. Edmond guided NSU to 473 total yards, throwing for a career-best 281 (17-30-2, 2 TD — 30 and 25 yards) and rushing for 52 (11 carries, 1 TD - 1 yard). He also ran for a two-point conversion while playing every snap (66) for the first time in his college career.

DEFENSE
BYRAN RICHMOND, Sam Houston State, Sr., DB, Humble, Texas
Richmond led the Bearkat defense with 15 tackles in a 48-10 victory over Arkansas-Monticello. He also forced two of the Boll Weevils’ three turnovers. Both fumbles he forced set up short scoring drives for SHSU.

SPECIAL TEAMS
CORY LONG, Stephen F. Austin, Jr., K, Richardson, Texas
Despite losing at No. 4 North Dakota State, Long was 4-of-4 on field goals and made his only point-after attempt of the night for a career high 13 points in the 28-19 loss. He tied a career-long with a 47-yard field goal and also connected from 20, 46 and 27.
