They were fucked out of the playoffs in all those years too. After we got lobbied out of the postseason my senior year, I remember the Del State coach writing a letter to our head coach congradulating us on our season and that he understood how we feel not getting into the playoffs when you felt deserved. Classy move on his part IMHO.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

C'mon. Three decent seasons in several decades of football?

1985: 9-2 (includes a 56-21 loss to D2 Towson)
1987: 9-1 (a win over 4-7 Akron that was moving up from I-AA was their marquis win)
1991: 9-2 (includes a loss to 4-7 Liberty who ALSO beat YSU that year)

I stated they had some "decent teams in the late 80s/early 90s". Thank you for admitting I was right. :thumb:

Beating the national champ while going 9-2 is good any way you slice it.

so what's your definition of "good" :coffee:

besides the question is who you want to see become "elite", my hierarchy is:

Elite
Great
Good
Decent
Bad
Terrible

I know it's more than 3-4 "decent" seasons in 30+ years. Hey, I hope you guys do become good. I'd like nothing more than DSU to go 10-1 every year with the 1 obviously being to the Hens. The playoff game in 2007 was a blast.

Looks more like 3 "decent" seasons in a six year period to me, something I'm sure UD is familiar with :fuel:

If we measure "decent" differently. National Championship appearances vs beating a 4-7 move up Akron... 8-)

I guess it depends on your standard for elite. EWU is one of 7 teams who have made the playoffs 5 times in the last 8 years, plus the NC. Two Buchanan winners and two Payton winners in that stretch doesn't hurt either

If anything, I'd consider us on the cusp. If we went deep or won another NC this year, I'd say that might put us over the edge.

Ryan: rkw set a ground rule that for purposes of this thread, you can't pick your own team. You got another pick?

That said, since everyone knows I'm a huge Liberty fan (due to my attendance in the Distance Learning Program), I'll take up for Weber and Portland State. One of my UOP teammates played QB and WR at Weber, and another is the current HC at PSU.

As far as schools at which I DON'T have a connection, I'd love to see a return to glory for Youngstown....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

YSU is a good choice.

I would consider ASU, Montana, Delaware, and UNI the 4 elites.

YSU and GSU provisional based on historical success.

McNeese, EWU, NDSU, JMU, Richmond, New Hampshire, W&M, and Nova as close but something still to prove.

Up and comers with potential: Montana State, SHSU, SIU, Furman

Probably missed someone...

I'd like to see Delaware State get good again, since we're stuck playing them every year now. Might as well have a contest if it's on your schedule.
I'm a bit fussier when it comes to my definition of elite. I think elite FCS team, and I think Montana, Delaware, GSU, App State. Maybe I left out a few teams, but those were the first four that came to mind. WM to me is in the 2nd or 3rd tier of FCS schools. Tier 1 being the upper crust and so on. I'd like to see them bump up a bit.

Interesting that you picked your rival. I've always been more of a 'destroy your rival' guy and less of a 'keep them relevant' guy. I like seeing the rival teams' fans being depressed. :thumb:

Agreed, this what I was thinking. Just because UNI hasn't went all the way don't make them not elite and just because NDSU has won one doesn't make them elite
