Re: ODU's Heinicke sets new D-1 NCAA Record with 730 yards
And UD's offense wasn't anything to write home about last year, and except for the ODU game we couldn't pass the ball on anyone. Should be an interesting game in late October down there - UD can actually pass the ball pretty well this year.CAA Flagship wrote:I agree with your assessment on how to play us. But last year's game against ODU did not go according to "plan" as we somehow stuffed the run. You guys killed us in the air by keeping drives alive and that one big pass play after we took the 4th quarter lead. But we lost 3 pretty good DL's since then and still have not found any MLB's. I think you will find some space to run this year.State Line Liquors wrote:Quite a track meet. It was entertaining to listen to as I was getting ready to tailgate for our game. ODU can obviously score points in a hurry, but they can apparently let them up in a hurry. They deserve plenty of credit though for being the team on top when that baby was all finished.
If I was the UNH coaching staff, I'd be shaking my head today thinking about 'what ifs'. But at this point, they're pretty accustomed to crapping the bed when it matters. How you don't start burning clock and shortening the game from the opening whistle is completely beyond me.
If I'm Delaware's coaching staff, or any other coaching staff in the league for that matter, I'm looking to turn a game against either ODU or UNH into a phone booth boxing match. Much like the last time we played both of them (ODU last year, UNH in the playoffs the year prior). Keep the opponent within arms reach. Run the football. Keep their offense off the field as much as possible. Play a little closer to the vest, and try to make it a less than 'glamorous' affair. Play the field position game for as long as possible.

Re: ODU's Heinicke sets new D-1 NCAA Record with 730 yards
Finally got done watching that embarrassment to the word defense. I've watched 2 games on CSN, URI @ Villanova and UNH @ ODU, and I must say, Comcast's coverage has sucked so far.
-Between the 2 games countless times they've have either missed the beginning of a play or the play or almost the whole play because they are showing a replay from the prior play or showing some stats or something else.
-UNH lost their best DL, their big DT #90, 3 yr starter I believe, early in the 1st qtr. No word on what happened to him.
-They tried to interview Wilder at the half but the CSN mikes wouln't work.
-They didn't bother to interview either coach at the end of the half, as they usually interview the one they didn't interview at the beginning of the half.
-There was one play in the 2nd half where the UNH QB got hit right after he threw the ball. They kept the camera shot on him. You never saw where the ball went. They had to show a replay for you to see what happened.
-Those 2 clowns in the booth kept talking about ODU's prolific offensive #s through their 1st 3 games. Never bothered to mention that those games were against weak opponents/cupcakes. I don't think they even mentioned who those 3 teams were- the uninformed viewer would have no idea who ODU played the 1st 3 games. Same goes for UNH.
-The 2 clowns a # of times mentioned that ODU had the #1 ranked defense in the CAA. One even chimed in they were 5th in the nation. Again, no mention that they played 3 cupcakes or even who they played.
-They kept on showing CAA stat rankings, which at that point, were basically worthless. At that point the CAA teams had all only played 2-3 games, most hadn't played a single CAA game, and they'd played OOC schedules of greatly varying degrees of difficulty, so any stat comparison of CAA teams at that point was pretty worthless.
-They are showing GST @ W&M this weekend, as opposed to UD @ UNH or ODU @ UR. Yes, these game times were set in July before the pre season coach's poll came out, but they could have found out from those who followed the CAA and the CAA preview that had already come out that GST was likely going to be very bad finishing at or near the bottom of the conference, and W&M, who finished bottom half of the league last season, would likely again. And its not like the game is @ the GA Dome. Even back in July UD @ UNH looked like a far more attractive matchup.
Comcast's coverage of the CAA sucks (be it TCN or CSN).

Re: ODU's Heinicke sets new D-1 NCAA Record with 730 yards
From the ODU website:
Here’s how Old Dominion Sophomore Taylor Heinicke Tore Up the NCAA Record Books
in #5/5 Old Dominion’s 64-61 victory over #18/19 New Hampshire on September 22, 2012.
1. PASSING YARDS IN A QUARTER: Heinicke’s 293-yard fourth quarter eclipsed the FCS record of 284 set by Western Illinois’ Sam Clemons in the second quarter versus Indiana State in 2001.
2. PASSING YARDS IN A HALF: Heinicke’s 480-yard second half dismantled the FCS record of 383 set by Marshall’s Michael Payton in the first half against VMI in 1991. The Division I record is 517 by
Houston’s Andre Ware against SMU in 1989.
3. PASSING YARDS IN A GAME: As noted Saturday, Heinicke’s 730 bests the Division I record of Houston’s David Klingler, who threw for 716 against Arizona State in 1990, but just misses the all-division record of 736 by Sam Durley of Eureka College (DII) bs in a 62-55 comeback win over Knox College earlier this season. The FCS record was 624 by Weber State’s Jamie Martin against Idaho State in 1991.
4. PASSES IN A GAME WITHOUT AN INTERCEPTION: Heinicke’s 79 breaks the all- division record of 77 set by Justin Peery of Division III Westminster of Missouri against MacMurray in 1998. The Division I
record of 76 was shared by Eastern Michigan’s Andy Schmitt (versus Temple in 2008) and Houston’s
Case Keenum (against UTEP in 2009).
5. TOTAL OFFENSE IN A QUARTER: Heinicke’s 293 yards in the fourth, all through the
air, breaks the FCS record of 278 set by Mississippi Valley State’s Willie Totten in the second
quarter against Kentucky State in 1984.
6. TOTAL OFFENSE IN A HALF: Heinicke had 496 after intermission (480 passing, 16 rushing), lapping the FCS record of 404 set by Stephen F. Austin’s Todd Hammel in the first quarter against
Louisiana-Monroe in 1989.
7. TOTAL OFFENSE IN A GAME: Also as noted Saturday, Heinicke’s 791 yards (730 pass- ing, 61 rushing) are an NCAA record, besting Klingler’s 732 (716 passing, 16 rushing) versus Arizona State in 1990. The FCS record was 668 by Jackson State’s Robert Kent (595 passing, 73 rushing) against Alabama State in 2001.
By the way Heinicke also had a 51 yard punt in the game.
