Heard what? The same tired quips (more like slows) about the red turf from ECBers? Yep. Hence gatw's response that I seconded.

This should be one of the best games of the playoffs. West will probably get his yards and Townsend will get score some points, but I don't see anyone other than NDSU slowing down Eastern's offense. First one to 50 wins.

Jacksonville State did to some extent—EWU only scored 7 on offense in the second half Saturday. Too bad for the Gamecocks that Jenkins couldn't return.

My gut is that this game won't be quite as defenseless as Towson/EIU was.

I'll go with this ^
First team to score 50 wins

but let me add:
If Eastern is loosey goosey with the football this Saturday - they lose this time
Eastern will need to capitalize on every chance to score

Agreed. Vernon Adams and quincy forte had 3 turnovers combined. 2 within the 5yl in the red zone. Very uncharacteristically of both players and I think they turn it around this game. towson doesn't have a running qb, therefore, imho, they don't have enough weapons to win this game. Idk if it will be as close as the Jacksonville state game. 42-17 EWU in all black

Is there any chance that Towson can pull what Sam Houston did in this same round last year against EWU? (replace Flanders with West, naturally.) Just curious what others think.

Yes, completely possible if your offense has another performance like last week.

The glare from the red field shorts out ESPN2's deluxe cameras. :twocents:

should be a shoot-out. I don't see Towson stopping VA, and then score at will... On the other hand I see Towson having slower drives rushing the ball down the field, then score at will. Eastern has shown some success in stopping running teams so I'll give them a slight edge 45-41 Eags.

Mostly just run through EWU and win.

Did you watch the Towson game last weekend? They had a few drives that were under 2 minutes. West WILL break off big chunks of yardage. It is not if, it is when. Today I have Towson winning. We will see how I feel on Saturday.

I didn't say that. Stupid Eastern fans. :tothehand:
I ask a simple question as to whether or not Towson could possibly run right through your defense and everyone just pisses and moans about SHSU not being the same team as Towson. I already know that. I am simply curious if Towson's run game could have similar success, even if the personnel is different.

Like SE said, they pretty much proved they can slow down big-time running backs against SDSU, provided he's playing in a more conventional offense.

We've had problems with the read option and dual threat QB's - see JSU's first half last week.

Match ups matter. No need for stupid Bizon fans to get all pissy about it. :ohno:

And you always will hear it as long as your stadium remains a gimmick.

Don't sound to curious to me. You also imply that SHSU and Towson are comparable by just changing key player. :dunce: EWU just beat a power running MVC team with a better QB than Towson two weeks ago in SDSU. Answer your own question TURD.

First off, as it relates to the red turf: it doesn't really matter if you love it or hate it because when you watch a game on it, you only notice it for the first 5 minutes. After that, it's about the game and the background color is just that, background.

As it relates to the possibility of West just having a field day; yes, it is possible. I think Eastern is much better against a power running game. The D shuts down the middle pretty well, but zone read teams that pop outside tend to give us all kinds of problems.

That said, I don't use Eastern stopping Zenner from South Dakota State as much for evidence. I really felt that kid was no better than average as an RB. I have no idea how he looked so good throughout the season; maybe he was just such a focal part of their offense that he couldn't help but look good.

I don't know much about him but I just don't see what the hype is from his stats... So he had a big game against EIU. The rest? Rather pedestrian numbers IMO. UNH was a quality performance. But the numbers against Delaware, Richmond, Stony Brook, NC Central, and UConn? I'd be impressed if they were great teams this year but they weren't. Right now I chalk the EIU performance up to a fluke performance. Especially looking at the yards gained in the games leading up to that one.

And the way the coach spoke after the EIU, I couldn't help feel a sense of entitlement for West to get the Payton award. That wouldn't instill confidence if I were a Towson fan. Entitlement doesn't win you games...

UConn (3-9), 156 YDS
Holy Cross (3-9), 121 YDS
Delaware State (5-6), 82 YDS
NC Cent (5-6), 149 YDS
Stony Brook (5-6), 150 YDS
UNH (10-4), 238 YDS
Villanova (6-5), 61 YDS
Albany (1-11), 183 YDS
Richmond (6-6), 272 YDS
Delaware (7-5), 206 YDS
W&M (7-5), 157 YDS
James Madison (6-6), 100 YDS
Fordham (12-2), 76 YDS
EIU (12-2), 354 YDS

West is a better back than Zenner, that's why Towson will score more than SDSU did against EWU. EWU has a good running game, plus they always have the alley oop offense to rely on if it gets behind. That's not a slight on EWU, they just have the skilled receivers that can out jump and out run DB's for a ball.

Still going with 52-45 EWU.

PS: I dont' mind the red carpet, but it does make for some good comedic discussion
