Alabama State question
Alabama State question
I didn't realize this because I haven't driven to Montgomery in a few years, but how the Hell did Alabama State manage to build such a football palace?
I keep hearing that these SWAC schools are broke as a joke and they haven't been able to compete with the better FCS schools for as long as I can remember. So where do they find $62mm to construct their stadium? It's perplexing given that their old stadium was in good shape and was certainly better than the vast majority of FCS schools already (including still being home to a bowl game).

They talked about moving up. Like a majority of the schools on this level have.Mvemjsunpx wrote:They actually have…DSUrocks07 wrote:They want to switch conferences...but haven't told anybody yet...

But I'm speaking of moving OUT of the SWAC to another higher caliber regional FCS conference. To show that they are up to snuff.

A lot of what you here about HBCUs is based on stereotypes, so some of it is not true or its outdatedLDopaPDX wrote:I didn't realize this because I haven't driven to Montgomery in a few years, but how the Hell did Alabama State manage to build such a football palace?

Re: Alabama State question
Comments appreciated, but no answers. $62mm is a lot of money. Where did it come from? Do they have a massive endowment that got put down? Did they get state funds? Do they have a T. Boone Pickens lying around>

Re: Alabama State question
My company is based in Atlanta and my biggest account is in West Point, GA. Since there are no hotels worth dick in West Point, I tend to stay in Lannett, AL. Every now and then I go to an Auburn football game and used to hit a Tide game every now and then when they played at Legion. Rarely do I go to Montgomery; there's not much there except the capital.Grizalltheway wrote:Don't you live in Portland? Good luck getting state funds on the West Coast. If you don't pay out of pocket, it doesn't get built.DSUrocks07 wrote:State funds and bonds. This is just a small part of a 30-year, $600,000,000 campus rejuvenation project at Alabama State. ASU does not seem to be nearly as poor as some other SWAC schools.LDopaPDX wrote:Comments appreciated, but no answers. $62mm is a lot of money. Where did it come from? It helps being in the state capital, and having that state capital be one of the largest cities in the region AND being the only game in town to boot.Mvemjsunpx wrote:This is just a small part of a 30-year, $600,000,000 campus rejuvenation project at Alabama State. If any SWAC school were to make a conference switch and still succeed, ASU would be at the top of that list.
