CAA Week 2 Prediction Thread
12:00 PM SBU @ UConn (SNY, ESPN3)
UConn last week lost @ home to BYU 35-10.
12:30 PM JMU @ Lehigh
Lehigh @ home with a "bye" last week, but JMU has a game under their belt. Will JMU avoid its 1st 0-2 start since 1998, where ironically, the 1st game was also a loss @ Maryland (23-15)?
3:30 PM UR @ UVA (ESPN 3)
UVA last week lost @ home to UCLA 28-20, giving up 3 defensive TDs.
3:30 PM Villanova @ Fordham
FU last week at home beat StFU 52-23. This has to be the national OOC game of the week.
6:00 PM DSU @ UD
DSU last week lost @ Monmouth 52-21. UD lost @ Pitt by 62, but Pitt might have put up 70 to 77 on DSU..
6:00 PM W&M @ Hampton
Hampton last week lost @ ODU 41-28.
6:00 PM Albany @ CCSU
Does CCSU have a letdown after their huge upset win over TU? Or does the NEC go 3-0 against the CAA?
7:00 PM URI @ Marshall (ASN)
Marshall last week won @ Miami of Ohio 42-27.
7:30 PM TU @ WVU (Root Sports)
WVU last week lost to Bama 33-23 in Atlanta.
Bye: UNH, Maine, Elon

Re: CAA Week 2 Prediction Thread
JMU @ Lehigh doesn't warrant its own thread IMHOP. Here's what I started over on the JMU board:
"They haven’t played yet, so all we have to look at stats wise is last year. Their game notes don't say what type of offense they ran, but their 2 deep listed a standard TB/FB/TE/2 WR. Their defensive 2 deep indicated they ran a 3-4, something both teams should be familiar going up against in practice.
They scored about 32 ppg, but they gave up about 31 ppg.
Avg 446 yds offense per game, but gave up 437 ypg.
Avg 154 yds rushing per game on about 35 attempts, but gave up 201 ypg.
Avg 292 yds passing per game on about 39 attempts, but gave up 235 ypg.
http://www.lehighsports.com/cumestats.a ... &year=2013" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Common opponents:
JMU beat CCSU at home 48-14. Lehigh beat CCSU at home 51-44, 2 OT (37-37 at end of regulation).
JMU lost @ UNH 33-17. Lehigh beat UNH @ home 34-27. That was Lehigh's real big win on the year, their only real quality one.
The other 2 playoff teams Lehigh played were Fordham, whom they lost to 52-34, and Lafayette, whom they lost to 50-28. Also lost to Bucknell 48-10.
Pre season preview:
http://www.patriotleague.org/sports/m-f ... 14aab.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Last year sounds like they had a passing oriented, high powered offensive team, with a very porous defense. Only return 8 starters according to the preview.
On offense, an OT is the lone offensive pick to the pre season All Patriot team (remember only 7 teams in the Patriot). They will be breaking in a new QB, likely to be a Soph, and won’t have a game under their belt.
http://www.lehighsports.com/news/2014/8 ... h=football" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Their lone defensive pick to the pre season All Patriot team is a DT.
Haven’t seen the 2 deep notes for Lehigh yet, but my guess is JMU should have a significant size advantage on the lines. JMU’s starting OL has a listed avg of about 6’5”/303, and starting DL about 6’2”/290. But as you can see with the MEAC, big doesn’t always = good.
JMU should have better athletes at the majority of positions.
Lehigh advantage being at home and having a “bye” week more than cancelled out by JMU’s advantage having a game under their belts.
Their HC Andy Coen is heading into his 9th season and sounds like a darn good one. I'm sure they will be very well coached."

JMU is going to have a tough season if Vad Lee is the best QB you have. I follow Tech and can tell you he is a 5th or 6th team all-CAA at best.

Maybe, as he wasn't good at all vs MD, but I'd wait till the end of Sept after @ Lehigh, StFU, @ VU, UD before passing a final judgement.Pwns wrote:JMU is going to have a tough season if Vad Lee is the best QB you have. I follow Tech and can tell you he is a 5th or 6th team all-CAA at best.
Also will have a better idea how good MD's defense really is with their 9 defensive starters back (through 1st week of Oct @ USF, WVU, @ Syracuse, @ Indiana, Ohio St).

Re: CAA Week 2 Prediction Thread
My Picks
UConn 45 SBU 7 - Gonna be a long year for SBU
JMU 24 Lehigh 17 - New coach @ JMU picks up first win
UVA 31 UR 13 - After playing #7 UCLA close, UVA head coach takes it our on his former Spider team.
UD 24 DSU 20 - Before last weekend, I would have said UD by 3 TD's....now, hopefully they'll win the game.
W&M 27 Hampton 10 - Tribe defense will shut down HU giving up late points.
Albany 24 CCSU 23 - Very interesting game. Will tell us a lot about the Danes.
Marshall 45 URI 0 - Too much to too little.
WVU 48 Towson 17 - WVU is seeking blood after Bama loss. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they're up next.
Nova 35 Fordham 21 - This one should be easier than the predicted final score, but stuff happens.
UConn 45 SBU 7 - Gonna be a long year for SBU

Re: CAA Week 2 Prediction Thread
UConn - if Stony Brook can't beat Bryant at home they don't have a prayer vs UConn
JMU - Toughest game to call all week - especially since Lehigh hasn't played yet
UVA - Spiders could upset but Wahoo D looked real good vs UCLA
'Nova - I think Fordham is a little overrated - last year VU was banged up & turned the ball over 5 times
UD - DelState is the worst team on our schedule, thankfully for the last time
CCSU - Albany was horrible last year & looks similar this year
W&M - Just the better team
Marshall - No way Rhody beats a Marshall team some think could run table
WVU - Tigers were way overrated this year - surprised their D struggled so much last week

Re: CAA Week 2 Prediction Thread
JMU 31, Lehigh 28. JMU blocked LU's 27 game tying FG attempt with under a minute to play.
JMU 606 yds of offense on 80 plays (322 rushing, 284 passing)
Vad Lee passing was 20 of 37, 284 yds, 2 TDs, 0 INT.
JMU's starting TB Khalid Abdullah apparently got injured in the 2nd qtr. 9 carries for 86 yds, 1 TD in the 1st half, dnp the 2nd half. True Fr backup went for 106 on 16 carries.
Lehigh 504 yds offense on 83 plays (287 rushing, 217 passing).
-Starting QB was 19 of 32 for 214 yds, 2 TDs, 0 INT.
-2 backs rushed for 121 and 98.
JMU was screwed out of a TD by a horrendous call at end of the 2nd qtr. Lee completed a TD pass on the next to last play of the 2nd half that was ruled out of bounds. Replay showed that the JMU WR got one foot in bounds with possession. JMU then instead of attempting a 29 yd FG (had just missed from 27 on an earlier possession) went for it on 4th and goal from the 11 on the last play of the half and Lee got stopped at the 1 yd line. Dumb call.
BOTH teams were HORRIBLE at FG (partly because of the gusting winds):
-JMU made from 21, missed from 27.
Lehigh missed from 41, missed from 25, blocked from 27.
BOTH teams dropped sure TD passes.
-JMU's UNC transfer Sean Tapley on a long bomb right in his hands in 2nd qtr.
-Lehigh's LB in the 4th qtr inside JMU's 20 yd line with what should have been a pick 6. JMU went on to drive the length of the field (98 yds) for what turned out to be th egame winning TD.
So Lee's 2 TD, 0 INT should have been 4 TD (blown call and dropped pass) and 1 INT (easy pick 6 dropped by LU LB).

Re: CAA Week 2 Prediction Thread
Also, he might have some type of injury on his left leg since before the MD game: Lot of the JMU faithful are talking about how Lee is slow compared to the Spring, and there's speculation that he's injured, which Withers hasn't acknowledged. Against LU he had 10 carries for 68 yds, but didn't look all that fast. 1st photo is at GT, 2nd is the JMU Spring game, 3rd is @ MD. I think the knee brace is a give away, which he also wore @ Lehigh.BDKJMU wrote:Maybe, as he wasn't good at all vs MD, but I'd wait till the end of Sept after @ Lehigh, StFU, @ VU, UD before passing a final judgement.Pwns wrote:JMU is going to have a tough season if Vad Lee is the best QB you have.

Wk #1 9 - 2

Lee, Vad 12 145.77 264-430-6 61.40 % 3323 29 93 276.92
Also rushed for 769 yds, 8 TDs.

But that doesn't even tell the story.
1st 5 games 51% passing (98-192), 9 TDs, 5 INTs, and it wasn't a coincidence that JMU was 2-3.
Last 7 games games 70% passing (166-238), 20 TDs, 1 INT, not a coincidence that JMU is 7-0.
And oh yeah, he was 2nd Team All CAA. Most seasons his performamce would have been good enough for 1st team, but John Roberts got that, who is likely going to win the Payton..
4th nationally in Total Offense:
