You obviously don't know that Musberger is from Montana then.

That doesn't mean they'd send those two to call an FCS game. Not in a million years.

So? Tom Brokaw was from South Dakota, but he never did the Nightly News from Pierre.

As for Herbstreit, on Saturday morning he called for a ban on "Big 5" conference teams playing FCS schools, claiming the games just aren't competitive. (I never heard what he thought about McNeese State's performance just a few hours later.) I can't imagine he has any of our stadiums on his bucket list.

Kind of like how they talked about the FBS playoffs for half of the EWU/SHSU game instead of what was going on out on the field.

Wonder if he watched the NDSU/Iowa State game or the EWU/UW game? Those weren't very competitive either...

Lee Fitting Interview with Fargo Forum
“Why not?” said Lee Fitting, senior coordinating producer for the popular college football pregame show. “I haven’t heard a good reason for the ‘Why not?’ yet. Our job is to tell the best stories within the sport of college football.”

The three-time defending Division I FCS national champion Bison (2-0) have won 26 games in a row, an FCS record. They have won five consecutive games against D-I FBS teams, including wins against major conference opponents from the Big 10 and Big 12.

NDSU has also won 20 consecutive road games, including four wins on neutral sites. The Bison will be the first FCS team to host “College GameDay” twice, let alone in back-to-back seasons. The show will again originate from downtown Fargo on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m.

“It was our way of saying this isn’t a cute story. This is not a novelty,” Fitting said. “North Dakota State is a big part of the fabric of college football right now.”

That said, it still took a perfect storm for the Bison to get “GameDay” back.

First, the Bison needed to win their third straight national championship in Frisco, Texas, last January.

Check.

Second, South Carolina, which was ranked in the Top 10 in the FBS at the time, was upset in the first week of the season, a 52-28 home loss against Texas A&M.

Check.

That Gamecocks’ loss made Saturday’s Georgia (ranked No. 6) at South Carolina (No. 24) game not quite as appealing, Fitting said.

Third, the Bison needed to win at Big 12 Conference opponent Iowa State, keeping their string of wins against FBS teams intact.

Check.

Finally, NDSU needed to take care of business in Ogden, Utah, over the weekend. Before last Saturday’s game, Fitting tweeted “GameDay” would be headed to Fargo if the Bison beat Weber State.

Check.

“We had been whispering about it for a couple of weeks,” Fitting said of a return trip to Fargo.

On Aug. 30 after NDSU defeated Iowa State 34-14, Fitting tweeted: “Uh oh Fargo. I see you Bizon.” Fitting said the final decision was made last Friday, pending a Bison win against Weber State.

Fitting said it was a “no-brainer” to have the show set up at the same spot it did last September, in downtown Fargo with the Fargo Theatre as the backdrop.

“This is a combination of ‘College GameDay’ meets Wrigley Field meets Champions League soccer intensity,” Fitting said soon after last year’s show concluded. “To see the people on the balconies and hanging out of windows and on the rooftops was something that we never get to experience.”

Saturday will mark the sixth time “GameDay” has originated from the site of an FCS game. There are 17 schools in the power five FBS conference which have never hosted the show, including the University of Minnesota and Iowa State.

Hey I'm not disagreeing with you see my post that started this thread but you missed the point about them being interested in NDSU. It isn't about who we are playing. Like it or not right now NDSU is the face of FCS football and anyone else to them at this point doesn't matter.

That makes literally NO sense. A #6 vs #24 FBS game "not quite as appealing" as NDSU vs Incarnate Fucking WORD?

......and how energized would the South Carolina crowd be after that loss? They are the primary audience that would show up for Game Day.

That's the point. The avg college football fan who watches is going to like, "Why are they showing them playing a Div III school? Why not show them play a Div I school? NDSU is really good- why would they be playing Div III schools? Where is Incarnate Word? I've never heard of them."

Montana is a state flagship with some name recognition a notch below what App State and NDSU have attained, more along the lines of GSU. But most college football fans will have at least heard of Montana and know they are a I-AA/FCS power.

ESPN may not care, but showing Incarnate Word instead of Montana (when there is no big top 25 matchup the following week either) makes our subdivision look more small time. Any of us around the country in the next month or 2 could say to people our school plays in the same Div I subdivision as NDSU and people could be like. "Yeah, I saw NDSU knocked off a bunch of Div I schools over the years. Saw them on College GameDay. They were playing some Div III school 'Word' something. You guys play Div III schools too?

IMO, the average college football fan is going to look for highlights and analysis from their team and don't care about the featured school. The dedicated/sophisticated college football fan will fall into your thinking of why this matchup.

I was listening to SVP and Rusillo's show on Monday and they were talking about Wyoming (how SVP said he would like to go to Wyoming) and they said that Wyoming started out strong under Bohl with a tough victory over a good Montana team. They never said FCS, Division II, lower division teams or any of the usual putdowns that PMSPN usually throws out. People know Montana is a quality program and it would have made for better conversation on gameday. However, IMO, the fellas will talk about NDSU and their FBS record and National Championships to seque' into the new FBS playoff system.

Musburger told ABC, when the Billings Montana team made it to the US Championship, that he wanted to do the broadcast. How many times before or since has he called a LLWS game? The guy can do what he wants and it is not that far fetched to think he would take an interest in that game.

Winning creates a monster. From a 12,000 attendance for the first home playoff game vs Robert Morris to $290 tickets on Stub Hub for Incarnate Word season opener. The tailgaiting has grown from a few dozen spots to a scene that could be Lambeau Field, and I've been to both. There are also a lot of people that come just for the tailgating and then go home or to the bar to watch the game. I managed to find a ticket from a cs.com friend from back home. Looks like guys like Lakes and JBB have been drowned out by the real fans.

Helping my parents with a garage sale in Fargo, many people said they didn't want to mess with trying to get downtown, and still it was a great crowd for Game Day. Shuttle buses were available or walking a mile. Some people closed the bars downtown and slept in their cars, others camped overnight. After the show ended in downtown Fargo, ESPN told the crowd, "If the Bison keep winning, Game Day will be back". It will be tough to keep winning as MVFC looks tough this year, could be a blood bath for everyone. Have to focus on the Griz first, they are always tough.

Great Tweet from Game Day producer Lee Fitting.

Thank you Fargo. Today's scene was the best ever for @CollegeGameDay. Thanks for the hospitality and enthusiasm. We will be back.

Don't know about the crowd in SC, but apparently last weeks loss pissed the PLAYERS off...congrats to SC for knocking of Georgia.
