Re: Massey Ratings and the MVFC
It's clear we should have 6 teams in the playoffs if they get to 7 wins each
Re: Massey Ratings and the MVFC
Half those teams could win the MAC this year, and probably pull some wins out of the Big10!

Very impressive but the bottom 4 are still bubble teams at this point. PSU, NAU, and Sac all had FBS wins in recent memory and still missed the playoffs.JohnStOnge wrote:Check out the Massey Ratings top 12 right now:

They didn't get nearly as much credit in these computer polls, though.kalm wrote:Very impressive but the bottom 4 are still bubble teams at this point. PSU, NAU, and Sac all had FBS wins in recent memory and still missed the playoffs.JohnStOnge wrote:Check out the Massey Ratings top 12 right now:

Massey Ratings have ALWAYS sucked....
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

One of the teams not on the list is South Dakota, 28-20 losers to Montana, and 28-21 winners at N Arizona.SuperHornet wrote:Massey Ratings have ALWAYS sucked....

South Dakota State is at 18. I almost carried it out to 20 or 25 to include them. One of the teams not on the list is South Dakota, 28-20 losers to Montana, and 28-21 winners at N Arizona.

MVFC is over-rated and that will play out in the playoffs, as usual. The exception being NDSU, of course.

Re: Massey Ratings and the MVFC
Remember, the only game against a FCS during which North Dakota State was challenged last year was its game against Northern Iowa. And the only games North Dakota State lost during 2011 and 2012 were against other MVFC teams. Youngstown State in 2011 and Indiana State in 2012.EWURanger wrote:MVFC is over-rated and that will play out in the playoffs, as usual. The exception being NDSU, of course.
Outside of the MVFC, North Dakota State has not lost a game since its 38-31 loss to Eastern Washington in the 2010 quarterfinals. In that game it lost when it fumbled away a scoring opportunity. And it lost 3 MVFC games that year.
Anyway, since that quarterfinal loss, the only teams that have been able to beat North Dakota State have been other MVFC teams.

Re: Massey Ratings and the MVFC
With not many FCS teams in the west, Big Sky and MV teams will be matched up right away. I don't want to see a Valley team in the 2nd round of the playoffs but it will probably happen if the Bison make it that far.EWURanger wrote:MVFC is over-rated and that will play out in the playoffs, as usual. There are some pretenders in the Valley this year. IMO, Ind State is one of them. YSU and MSU are probably the others.
SDSU and Ill State is a huge game for both teams today. Is Ill State for real? Can SDSU's backup QB lead them to a win in Normal?
SDSU @ Ill State: Ill State in a close game
UNI @ Ind State: UNI rolls in this game
USD @ SIU: SIU big in this one.
YSU @ MSU: Bears at home
NDSU @ WIU: necks have had trouble in the 2nd half this year. Long day for WIU

Re: Massey Ratings and the MVFC
Anyone that believes that 8 of the top 12 teams in the country reside in one conference is delusional. Anyone that believes the Griz would finish 9th in the MFVC is delusional. Anyone that believes Jacksonville State is the 10th best team in the country is delusional. Therefore, I conclude that Massey is delusional.Robsnotes4u wrote:What is it that proves it, and why?AZGrizFan wrote:

How many games have you watched Jacksonville State play? In fact how many have you watched of all the teams listed?
Again why would they be delusional?
How come the best teams can't be in the same conference?

The 4 minute mile seemed impossible. Then Bannister broke it, what followed, was lowering that time by 17 seconds, and it became the standard.AZGrizFan wrote:35 years of history and common sense tell us otherwise, Nostradamus. Dont be so ignorant. It is very possible. The reasoning is simple. Playing better competition makes you better.
1. How many teams in the MVFC were able to play the best team in the FCS the last 3 years?
2. How many teams in the FCS played NDSU more than once in the last 3 years?
3. How many of those teams studied NDSU every week besides the teams in the FCS?
4. After answering 2 & 3, who learns the most from NDSU?
Unfortunately with Regional games in the playoffs, and the politics of the FCS committee you will never see the top 4 teams in one conference play in the semis to prove it.

Re: Massey Ratings and the MVFC
After everyone puts aside their conference affiliations and looks at this rationally, you know it's bullshit. Just like in the 2003-2010 timeframe, we all knew there weren't 8 CAA teams really worthy of being in the top 12.
If you go back and check, 2004 and 2009 were probably the best showing for a conference. CAA got four teams in and all won in the playoffs. In 2008 the CAA got five in with four winning.
Eight teams is simply laughable. Massey obviously puts a bit too much weight on schedule, so NDSU is skewing the conference along for the ride. Just keeping it real around here.

Big Sky cannot say the same thing when teams do not play each other....
Each team misses 4 other teams every year. You could win the conference by feasting on the 4 bottom teams and not playing the top 4 teams.
Valley needs more teams to have more bottom dwellers.
