That side of the bracket isn't nearly as fierce.

NDSU got essentially what they wanted there.
Only EWU, UNH, UNI are any good on that side of the bracket, and I think UNH will bow out as usual. Montana will fold like a cheap suit. Illinois State will also exit early. The rest are fluff and absolutely no threat to anyone.

On the other side of the bracket, Coastal and JSU are simply over matched and are no threat to advance to the chipper. NDSU and nova are two of the possible champions.

However, JMU is on a roll and has a real shot at beating nova and could beat NDSU.

Heck, I would not count out SHSU...they stuck with EWU until the 4th, at EWU, and the Bearcats are a MUCH better team now. Lots of speed and talent. And forget trying to match their RBs...they have three that are outstanding. They did lose three starters to injury against UCA, so that could be a factor.

SDSU is solid, but NDSU has their number.

Richmond, with Strauss healthy, is another good team that could challenge NDSU. If Strauss is hurt, then they are toast.

I see more legitimate title threats on NDSU's side of the bracket.

And here I thought we were done with obnoxious CAA homerism.

Ill State is no cake walk for any team. UNI needed special teams TDs (punt and KO returns for TDs) and a pick 6 to beat Ill State. If they meet again, I doubt that will happen again.

Ill State is well balanced offensively and has a very good defense. It would not surprise me at all if they come out of their side of the bracket.

Marshaun Coprich has rushed for 100 yards every game this year and the QB (Roberson) is a very good dual threat.

Their defense is also one of the best in the FCS.

I guess that's what you have to resort to when your once-great program becomes completely irrelevant. :(

And they needed a fumble on the first play of the game by uni to score points early on....

I can't remember why I disqualified IN State. Looking at their schedule again, they DO have an FBS win. That puts them up over other 7-5's on the bubble and several 8-4's.

SFA is another story. They played a D-II and lost to a school that's still essentially a D-II. SFA has NO business in the playoffs. IMO, Dayton at 8-3 with NO D-II games would have been a MUCH better choice. NC A&T at 9-3 with a 1-point loss to a team that was #1 for several weeks this season would likewise have been a better choice than SFA.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I think you're under estimating Abilene Christian. It's a program moving up from D-II after it made the D-II playoffs six consecutive years.

But, beyond that, my guess is SFA made it because they beat Southeastern Louisiana. Now, they beat them under circumstances where Southeastern Louisiana's quarterback, Bryan Bennett, was injured so the Lions were trying to get through without playing him and he didn't play during the first half. And, having watched that game, I think one thing it showed is that Southeastern Louisiana would struggle to go 0.500 without Brian Bennett playing. Totally, and I mean TOTALLY, ineffective on offense without him in the game during the first half.

But I guess the committee didn't consider that.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Geographically, campus to campus as per Google maps:

JMU + LU combined distance to CCU: 688 miles.
UR + Morgan State combined distance to CCU: 779 miles.

JMU + LU combined distance to VU: 597 miles.
UR + Morgan State combined distance to VU: 345 miles.

Did these idiots not look at a map before making the pairings?

And as far as VU beating JMU in a rematch not so fast. Completely different JMU team that lost 49-31 @ VU in Sept (who was coming off a bye) followed by losing to UD in OT.
Two of the best three QB's in the country! Look forward to the rematch and JMU is definitely playing better. Don't count on 7 fumble recoveries by JMU this time though!

Looks like one of the strongest overall brackets in years. After the play-in games, there are going to be some great match-ups.

I hope Illinois St bones up on their pass defense its ranked near the bottom of the FCS.
You might want to check the stats again...or lean what near the bottom means....

They are top 50 at 200 yards per game given up and are #19 in total defense in the nation
