Quarterfinals - Breakdown

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Playoffs

UTC 30-35 UNH
ILST 59-46 EWU
SHSU 34-31 NOVA
CCU 32-39 NDSU

  • Best Performance: (#5) Illinois St. 59, (#4) Eastern Washington 46 - Marshaun Coprich runs for 258 yards and 4 touchdowns to aid a Redbird defense that prevented Vernon Adams from coming alive until the fourth quarter.

Worst Performance: Defense - Every team in this round scored at least 30 points. I'm too lazy to go check whether that's ever happened in a round with at least 4 games, but it's still kinda remarkable.

Most Surprising Result: Sam Houston St. 34, (#6) Villanova 31 - Which was more surprising? That the run-heavy Bearkats pulled the upset while being outrushed noticeably (Jared Johnson had an unusually strong passing performance), or that the Wildcats still nearly won even with the likely Payton winner not playing a single down?

I don't think it was surprising at all. I spent all week thinking Sam Houston State was going to get clubbed. But as soon as I turned it on on ESPN3 and they were saying Villanova's starting quarterback wasn't going to play I was thinking "dogfight." I'll admit that once I found out the starter was out I thought there was more of a chance for Villanova getting beaten soundly than Sam Houston State being beaten soundly but for sure I went from thinking Villanova was going to win pretty easily to thinking they'd struggle to win and might lose.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

so NOVA would of had 550 yrds on OFF instead of 500 if JR was in? still yet to hear anyone tell us how the great CAA allowed 34 points and 450 yrds. would JR of played DB and LB? NOVA had the lead very late in the 4th and iffy soph qb with the flu marched the ball down the field and stuck it the end zone, I guess if JR was in the game sec/caa def would of stopped it and game over?

Maybe like 700 yards of offense for all we know. I cannot believe you would argue that losing a guy who led the FCS in passing efficiency by a huge margin and accounted for over 300 yards per game doesn't change things significantly. Seriously. Are you attempting to argue that?

The idea is that Villanova might have scored something like 50+ points on Sam Houston State with that guy in the game. Aside from that, Villanova performing at maximum on offense and doing something like getting well ahead affects what Sam Houston State does on offense. No, we can't know for sure what would have happened if he played because it didn't happen.

But, seriously, any reasonable person is going to say that if you lose a player like that it's going to have a huge impact.

I don't think the young bearkat quarterback has played his best game yet. When he does, they are going to put a bunch of points on the board.

a reasonable person would answer for his reasons for only looking at one player and not his misconceptions about the physicality mis-match. Great JSO, we are to believe that before this game kicked off you thought the only chance NOVA has is JR? I guess it has to be, this is your only reason for the loss. Myopic much?

But, seriously, any reasonable person is going to say that if you lose a player like that it's going to have a huge impact.

I'm still in shock that EWU and Nova lost.

Coastal played its best game on Saturday. They played better than I expected and I couldn't be more proud of those men. Fargo is not an easy place to win, but we overcame, lead at one point and did very well. We beat ourselves with stupid penalties and bad calls but I think we proved that we can hang with the big boys. :thumb: :twocents:

The Eagles were "off" from the start. Picked a bad day to not fire on all cylinders. Of course not being able to stop ISU sure didn't help.

We would have had to play near perfect to beat them. They are a better football team than the UW. They are that good.

Ill State has been under the radar all season.

They are playing the best football right now. They will be tough to beat.

Bison lose Emanuel, 3 LB's and 2 Safeties, and Crockett on offense. It's going to be tough even making the playoffs next year out of the MVFC. Unless the Bison played a MEAC schedule. ;)

Emanuel is a junior don't know about the LBs and Safeties.Wished that North Dakota St would play SC St two teams with run oriented offenses.

North Dakota St is the only team left with decent run defense in playoffs.Want to see their pass defense vs Sam Houston St.

CCU beat SCSU by 27 points, 30-3, after Coastal took the foot off the gas at half-time. Henderson had 173 yards, Crockett would do the same or better.
