I think any time you lose your starting QB, leading rusher and leading receiver, you could have a drop in offensive production. However, you're right that a good offensive line will help. I do think WSU has just as many holes to replace than UNC. We have a vet QB, solid WR, a solid O-Line (who most were injured all year last seasons) and our running back from two years ago is returning (John Burnley). I also think the drop down running back from CU will be really good in this new offense.Wildcat Ryan wrote:WeberAlum02 wrote: Yeah, the receiving corp is a much bigger question mark than the QB. I hope that O Line, two veteran TEs, and a solid group of running backs will be enough to make up for the lack of experience the WRs have.
Our receiver corp is young and inexperianced, but I do like our two veteran TE's and if our O-line can block for Hoke he will find ways to get the ball to the young receivers. I think thier confidence as the season progresses will rise and I think we will be ok, Weber's strength is definetely gonns be the run game this year. I just hope our OC can tell when we are playing against a weak secondary that we come out and throw the ball, unlike last year at MSU, when we ran against MSU's great run defense when we should have been throwing the ball

Prior to the fall practice season I would have had no problem placing EWU, MSU and SAC above the Griz. Based on the way the Griz have looked in practice I feel more confident in the prospects for the season. I truly look for alot of improvement in the Griz over last season. There are a lot of new faces in key positions and there are questions of gametime performance vs practice performance. However, each season is a new season bringing with it different chemistry, injuries, adaptation to new players and coaches. And, a different schedule. The first part of the season is going to be brutal for several of the percieved front runners. I look for the Griz to be in the thick of things to the finish.

after week one only UNC and PSU will be 1-0. weber state has the best chance to join them at 1-0. everyone else is 0-1.

But in reality nothing has changed. Since you offense has looked good does that mean that the defense is now middle of the road, or is your offense really that good.grizfan47 wrote:Prior to the fall practice season I would have had no problem placing EWU, MSU and SAC above the Griz. The opposite is happening to the east in Gods Country. We all know that MSU has a great Offense but in the first 2 scrimages the Defense has been stifling so it must mean that our Defense is really really good
I don't know what it is to tell the truth, and I doubt you are really that sure either, neither will know a lot after the first game either.
Pre season polls are for nothing more than throwing darts, next couple of weeks ar gonna be long ones.

While I'm more optimistic about our season following the offense's amazing performances the last few days, it's tough to say if it's because we really are that much better, or if the defense has become slightly soft.
But I think this caution is a natural feeling for both teams given the state of last season. The Griz offense was atrocious, so it actually moving against our all-world defense is hard to believe. On the flip side, the Cats's offense was all-world, and their defense, especially by Cat standards, was pretty bad. That the defense has been stuffing the O so much could mean they're back to Cat D standards, or that their golden offense has taken a tumble in effectiveness.
Hopefully it just means that the Cats and Griz are sitting in prime position for a BSC title game at the end of November.

BTW, not to burst anyone's bubble, but "corp" is an abbreviation for a corporation.
The word you're looking for is "corps." What confused you is the silent "s."

Re: Big Sky Standings Prediction Thread
For MSU I think the defense will be improved quite a bit, which is a good thing because I think our offense will take a step back. We are struggling along the offensive line with injuries and lineups. It might be 2-3 games into conference play before we get that settled. Our run game is really suffering right now.
The two constants on offense have been McGhee who is showing improvement and WR Elvis Akpla who has been lighting up our secondary since last spring. He is in for a big year.
Opening up against Utah and their defensive line is going to be interesting.

I feel your pain. UNC has some of the same issues there, but I think they will be better than last season. They have to.bpcats wrote:For MSU I think the defense will be improved quite a bit, which is a good thing because I think our offense will take a step back. Wow! That's really weird. I've heard from many Cat fans rebutting the implication of a less-effective running game that this was a place where you guys would be better this year, despite losing Davis.bpcats wrote:Our run game is really suffering right now.

It seems every fall during camp the OL has some problems but Coach Mac gets it figured out. Here is a quote from Colter Nuanez the Bobcat football reporter . He actually attends practices and scrimmages, bpcats doesn't.uofmman1122 wrote:Wow! That's really weird. "the offensive line struggled Wednesday. Friday will not be fun practices for them. But their struggles were made worse by a defensive line that continues to wow me. Honestly, at practice during group periods, I find myself watching that group more than any other group because they all just go so freakin' hard. As is customary with fall camp, the good competition between the OL and DL will make both groups better once the season rolls around. I don't think Cat fans need to panic as I think the OL will be just fine. They were just forced to go up against a DL on a mission Wednesday. Zach Minter told me Tuesday they wanted to make a statement. They sure did."
Re: Big Sky Standings Prediction Thread
Go back a read some of bpcats other posts, especially from last year, he is always finding fault in our team and playing up the opponents. Heck, I think he even picked the griz to beat the Cats last November.uofmman1122 wrote:Wow! That's really weird. Honestly, it is a toss up between the obvious choices...
UM (homer pick of course)
EWU (I think they will have a let down this year...*crossing fingers
)
MSU (solid team on both sides of the ball)
and the not so obvious...
PSU
Sac

Sac, yes. They're not flashy, but solid at pretty much every position.ArmyOfDarkness wrote:Honestly, it is a toss up between the obvious choices...

PSU, no. They had one of the worst defenses in the nation last year and it would take a lot of improvement for them to just be average. They also lack depth at the "skill" positions so they could be in real trouble if McCaffrey or Monahan gets hurt. They only reason I think they'll even approach .500 is because they play 2 non-DIs. That also means they need to go 9-2 to have a realistic shot at the playoffs.

as long as EWU and M U lose alot of games,
