How is ODU looking on the injury front? I know they view this as their coming out party and have recent history of not being disciplined with penalties. As a UD fan I hope their energy causes them to over-pursue or commit those dumb fouls that they've done this year. Let's try and keep this thread about the game on the field and not a pissing contest...there's a smack thread for that.
We lost our best cover cornerback for the year in the GSU game (broken wrist). And we lost our top returning RB before the season began. I haven't heard anything coming out of the Hampton game. Not enough there for any excuses. DeMarco is the key to our success. If he goes down, we go down hard. Sacking him is difficult for two reasons though. 1. It's a quick pass offense. 2. You have to honor his running. So the MLB's have to be careful blitzing and can't drop too deep into coverage.
Here is an idea of how we run our offense (W&M game last year).

You'll most likely see Tim Donnelly at QB on Saturday. The injury report usually comes out tomorrow some time. Rob Jones our #2 WR and #1 PR rolled his ankle last week on a punt return, he walked off on his own power. He did not return but the game was getting ugly on the scoreboard. Our OLB, Jessel Curry, who saw time as a freshman last year at Auburn, was out last game w/ a neck sprain. He should be back vs ODU considering on the depth chart he was listed as a possible starter up until gametime. Our best WR, Nihja White had a broken thumb and missed the West Chester game came back strong last week with 122 yds receiving and a TD. He obviously is fine.
Some excerpts from Bobby Wilder's press conference today....
About being scheduled to open the CAA season at Delaware:
“I was not happy at all. That’s not where I wanted to go for our first game. They were 9-1 at home last year and their one loss was to a Villanova team that had to win to make the playoffs, and they lost that one in overtime. With all due respect, that’s not an easy place to play your first league game.”
On playing in front of a hostile, sold out crowd on the road:
“This will be our first away game in that type of environment. Every year, Delaware is mentioned as a team that has a chance to win the national championship. Clearly we’re going to need some help to win this game.”
“I told our players we’ll have to turn all of our attention toward Delaware this week just to compete. We’ll have to play close to perfect just to compete. They have as good a running back (Andrew Pierce) as anyone in the country. We’re going to have to be resilient. This is a major challenge.”
On Delaware:
“I don’t see weaknesses in their game. They have four senior offensive linemen and are the best in the league, if not in the country.”
On ODU’s 8-1 road record:
“We have proven than we can play on the road. But when we go to Delaware we’ll have to be near perfect to win at their place.”
“When I played, it was good to go to Delaware and play in that atmosphere. At Maine, if we got a crowd of 5,000 and our stadium was still half empty, that was a good crowd. Everything about playing at Delaware is exciting. The crowd is right on top of you on 10-foot risers. And their fans are always trying to ‘encourage’ you as a player. The fact that we send our plays in from the sideline using signs should work out for us. ”
However...
On taking the ODU job over four years ago and starting a team from scratch:
“I absolutely looked at this as an ideal situation. You have 1.7 million people in the general region and no professional major league sports to compete with. Of our 96 players, 48 are from 26 high schools in the 757 area. I really feel it’s the best FCS situation in the country.”

Trip, you did an adequate job during your job interview on Saturday, but not sure how sucessful you will be in sales with that stuttering problem you exhibited after the shot of Jack Daniels........
