Re: 2 Free Tix - Delaware St @ Delaware on Sunday
Why does an anonymous posting on the internet even make news? JFC at the News Journal. This is not news.

In their defense, it was important enough that President Harker sent a letter out yesterday to everyone talking about it before the News Journal even picked it up. It has been pretty big on campus this week.93henfan wrote:Why does an anonymous posting on the internet even make news? JFC at the News Journal. This is not news.

Why didn't he speak about any acts of hate by black people against whites?superman7515 wrote:In their defense, it was important enough that President Harker sent a letter out yesterday to everyone talking about it before the News Journal even picked it up. Just copying and pasting as I assumed everyone received the same letter I did, and I'm now told that's not the case...
To all members of the University of Delaware community:
I have learned that this past weekend -- in connection with the
University of Delaware/Delaware State University football game --
several anonymous racist remarks were posted on a social media website.
It is troubling that this athletic contest between Delaware's two
public universities -- a time of fun and celebration -- was marred by
rude and disrespectful language. It is even more distressing that we
continue to be exposed to such hatred.
This kind of behavior has no place on our campus, and we will not
tolerate it. Please join me in condemning such hurtful actions that
hide behind the mask of anonymity.
One of the University of Delaware's primary guiding principles is
diversity, and I know many of you have worked very hard to insure that
all people are welcome and feel welcome on our campus. For that I want
to thank you and ask that you help by continuing to serve as positive
role models.
This weekend's incident is a sad reminder that we still have far to go
to eliminate hate and prejudice from our campus. We need to work even
harder to ensure that ours is the community of respect that we want it
to be. I am confident that together we can succeed.
Sincerely,
Patrick T. Harker
President

Oh, and the cynic in me thinks that maybe UD made sure to scour the internet for any semblance of racism so that they could justify continuing the playing of the game year in and year out as a "stamp out racism" effort.

Re: 2 Free Tix - Delaware St @ Delaware on Sunday
The easiest way to explain it is it's kind of like a mix of Twitter (you're doing all your posting from your phone) and a message board. All of the users are anonymous, so it allows for more knuckleheads than usual, but only people within a few miles of you can see what you post. It's really popular on college campuses because you can share information (i.e. talk shit about someone/something) anonymously and only people around campus can see it, and then they can anonymously join in talking shit about the same people/places/things.GannonFan wrote:And seriously, what the heck is yik yak?

So again, why is this news? Why did Harker even entertain it? Just because a few negros on campus started getting uptight? Big deal. They get uptight about everything.superman7515 wrote:The easiest way to explain it is it's kind of like a mix of Twitter (you're doing all your posting from your phone) and a message board. They really know how to market, don't they?
BTW, 64% chance of rain from 12-2pm (when people are driving to their tailgate), and then a 60% chance of rain from 6-8pm.
A buyer's market with the scalpers.

13,000?

They "distributed" (whatever that means) 12,500 last week with a rainy forecast. You're probably close at 13k.Cluck U wrote:93henfan wrote:
