How's Delware's new stadium coming along...oh wait
Didn't you catch those fancy looking finalized and shovel ready Crayola blueprint sketches we just released and gabbed about for a couple weeks?
Anywho...if you happen by UD in your near future travels (and Newark is most assuredly a Summertime hotspot, swing by our AD's office and we'll have Bernard show you them. He might even be able to squeeze a few dollars out of you.
If Newark is anything like H'burg, when you walk in the athletic department there's a rope that grabs your feet, turns you upside down and shakes the change out of you. Then you get placed right-side up and handed a card that says: Thank You for Your Contribution to the Stadium Fund.

Hah, yeah. That's where I snaked them from. I was actually trying to find some earlier today on the JMU website, facebook always seems to update quicker.

Yea, it's about time for an athletic department picture update. My guess is they'll finish the temp bleachers and then start taking pictures.
danefan wrote:Random question, but anybody have any clue how much seating will be in temp bleachers this year and also what it cost to put those up?
I don't know the answer to either. The only figure they give us is that it will seat approximately the same as it did last year. And the most current seating chart has the temporary end zone seating in too. So, if they cover the sideline, I would guess 1 to 2K, max. It's probably difficult to nail down an exact cost on putting them up. They've always had that plan so it was probably included in the original proposal somewhere.

I figured no one would have the answer.
We're a state school, so this is practically a government job. You're looking in the wrong place for answers.
The web cam and the few pics on this thread don't begin to show what phase one of this stadium is like...under the lower deck are several levels of all kinds of amenities...sweet it is! I've been waiting for this forever and never thought it would happen...
James Madison University --- Better than you since 1908...

There are new pics on Facebook today. I'm sure JMU DJ will post them, but I don't have time. It shows some of the concourse level and the field level corridor under there. It does look pretty sweet.
to jmupurplehaze and mcvey...going to be a magnificent stadium when its all done but is there any plans to do anything with that glorified highschool gym your basketball teams call home?

I wish.I think the long range plan is to do something with it, but I'm pretty sure that's part of the long range plan that includes making our stadium hold 50,000.
while old, the Convo is perfectly adequate for our current team and demand. JMU will be sprucing it up with video boards and some other eye candy next year.
New Convo will be built where the old softball field is...probably a number of years away.
BTW, I am not aware of too many 7600 seat High School arenas.

I was trying to take the high ground on that high school gym thing. If he is ODU '11 he obviously doesn't remember "The Ted's" predecessor, "The John", er, I mean, The Fieldhouse. Wasn't that long ago that ODU played in a much smaller, crappier arena than JMU and that was hard to accomplish.
Anyway, who wants to talk basketball on a football board...
relax, it was a joke. like one of the above posters said, it fits demand now...I was just wondering, because since you were making huge changes to your football facility if there were going to be any changes to the basketball arena in the future.

I have no witty comeback on the basketball slight...we suck . Not sure how we took ODU to the wire last year w/o our starting point guard and a starting forward...the Convo is not a gem but it's not that bad...I don't hate the Convo but I hate having had a team that did/does not compete in the CAA (will change in 2010-11)...

That was from the hip. I remember flipping through the long range prospectus and saw something like this. I'm sure you're ready to correct.
