 You were 3-8, Jennifer, you didn't knock the stuffing out of anybody. In fact you were exposed as a good offensive line surrounded by the nation's slowest and least talented group of skill position players (except for Paschall, and obviously he wasn't enough).

mgbison wrote:obviously, the mvc is one of the better conferences from top to bottom. However, i'm sick of people from other teams thinking that we went from 10-1 to 3-8 because the mvc is so tough. our 10-1 teams would beat last years team by 40. we just had 2 bad classes back to back, and sub par qb play (still blows my mind why we didn't recruit a qb for 2 or 3 years), and we had some legal issues. Throw it all together and you have the perfect sh%#storm.

We will have a good chance at the playoffs this coming year, but if we don't make the playoffs by 2011, it's safe to say we will have a new head coach. i'd be willing to put a good chunk of change on it, that we will be in the playoffs by 2011. Those 10-1 years were awesome, but some bison fans heads got a little big from those years. The funny thing is we probably didn't have a single 2 star recruit on those teams, so that goes to show how much stock you can put into rivals, etc.
More likely it goes to show that the schedule wasn't the strongest....

Look at the NDSU @ SIU game. NDSU ran 77 plays, SIU 56 SIU didnt have any running backs that did as well as NDSU running backs. Paschall outgained Karim, DJ McNorton our second best back had 3 yds to every 1 yrd your second best back had. Then I think you ran out of backs.

NDSU had 219 yds rushing with 3 productive backs. SIU had 139 yds with 1 productive back.

What you guys had was a favorable afternoon from the refs and a better kicker. if SIU is as good as it gets in the MVC dont expect much on the national scene. Frankly, they were a competitive team last year, with a seasoned squad, but still unimpressive. The playoff results confirm my statements.

The passing stats confirm that SIU was equally matched with The BISON at that skill position too. You had five receivers with 10 catchs. NDSU had 6 receivers with 9. SIU had 2 TDs, NDSU 1. The 10th catch was the edge. Not much of a margin if you ask me.

Remember, NDSU had 45 freshman. Many of them were on the field gaining experience. They all had their moments. Some were outstanding. Thats how you build a football team and thats what is unfolding at NDSU right now.
Dear Lord, We come before you and humbly ask you to grant our prayer for a veil of protection to be placed over Donald Trump. May your will be done. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

 The refs?

You trailed the entire game, dude, and were never a threat. 77 plays and 14 points? Please.

Running game? SIU avg 4.2 ypc, NDSU 4.1 ypc. Paschall's long, 14 yds., Karim's long, 35 yds. Like I said, no speed for da Bison.

passing game? NDSU 105 yds, no TDs, long pass of 35 yds, (same as SIU's longest run). SIU, 186 yds, 2TDs, long pass of 61 yds.

NDSU, 1 TD (in 38 minutes!)

SIU, 3 TDs (in 22 minutes!)

Sorry, Jeffro, but the stats only reinforce my contention that you are slow and lack talent. You've feasted on weak competition so long that you have started to believe your own BS.

I can't wait for the Bison to come back to Cedar Falls, get loud and obnoxious and make another trip home with their horns between their legs. :p

did you watch the ndsu vs siu game. your defense was fast, but i've never seen a group of lbs/ dline get blown off the line of scrimmage as bad as siu's was. our passing game was horrible with mertens and we had no talent at receiver this past season (legal issues really hurt us there). SIU's long touchdown pass was due to a true freshman corner in his second career start biting on a pump fake. Give credit to your qb on the pump fake, but speed of your wideouts had nothing to do with all the passing yards.

We were 3-8 last year, so any bison fan talking shit should stop.

if i remember correctly siu lost in fargo 2 years ago, so i;m not too worried about the speed issue. The only area where we were really slow last year was the wide outs, but that shouldn't be any issue this coming season.

Quoted for the truth. Please prove it on the field before saying that you are going to dominate this league. SDSU did fairly well in the first two years in the MVFC and I believe we still are in no position to even state what you are stating. Until someone gets to the level of UNI or SIU in winning conference championships and/or playoff berths, they are in no way ready to say they are taking over the league.

I give the Bison o-line major credit and they are the reason I have stated in another thread that NDSU is the potential sleeper in the MVC this year. They used their size advantage and Paschall ran as far as the blocking took him. However it wasn't as one-sided as you make it seem: SIU had 4 sacks and Paschall was stuffed on 4th and 1.

2 years ago is ancient history but SIU lost in Fargo by a TD in their third game with a new coach and different system and no seniors. If you want to piss and moan about refs check out the fumble by your TE the play before your first score.

I'm not as down on the Bison as it may seem, I just like to bust JBB's balls because he is such a gibbering half-wit. :thumb:

I don't beleive i ever mentioned anything about officals. However, i will say that the officals in the mvfc suck. It doesn't matter what 2 teams are playing.

Does anyone know if there is a preseason favorite next year? Based on returning players, favorable schedule etc.

My bad, it was JBB (who else?) whining about the refs. Who do suck badly, but didn't cost the Bison the game last year.

I don't know who is the preseason favorite this year, except that I hope it isn't us because the preseason favorite doesn't have a great record recently in the MVC. NDSU could be very tough if they get any speed on defense because the o-line has the ability to be a great ball control device, if the Bison defense weren't so easily beaten. Change that and you could frustrate a lot of offenses.

SIU, UNI, SDSU, and probably YSU will fight for the top 4 with NDSU and Illinois State fighting for the 5-7 spots with ISUB and WIU bringing up the rear....like normal.
Yikes, MSU doesn't even exist?!

Well, I gave this forum a chance but from the looks of the other MVFC posters here I won't even enjoy my time.

See ya later.

Welcome - I hope...stick around and talk up your team. Without active posters, teams can sometimes be overlooked.

And don't feel bad, NAU gets left off of Big Sky lists all the time :ugeek:

Been a member since 08, but this is my first post. First of all guys stop feeding our trolls, they LOVE to argue. FargoBison is a great rep for most of our posters and is right that most of the regulars on BV don't hit other boards mainly IMO due to the lunacy of some. Here is my simple version. 2006- 10-1 patsy schedule or not good team, 2007- after watching the 44-14 pounding at Central Michigan best we had, 2008- new QB average year, 2009- no doubt about it we SUCKED ass period don't know how anyone can argue against it, 2010- not going to win shit in the league but not from lack of talent just experience very young team. with that

1.SIU
2.UNI
3.SDSU
4. ISU-R
5.NDSU
6. YSU
7. MSU
8. ISU-B
9.WIU

Basically anything from 4 down is a toss up, MSU surprised me last year and could be a top 5, also we could be in the 8-9 as we will more than likely have a Freshman QB, and for the bison fans yeah I think Brock will win the job from Jose "Quervo" Mohler.

That seems pretty reasonable. I agree that most of the league is up for grabs.

YSU looks to be getting back on the right track with their new coach, and I could see them finish well, but at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if they have growing pains and finish bottom half again. I think the league is very unknown this season with a lot of new faces.

UNI lost a ton of talent at the line of scrimmage but brings back a lot of skill players so I could see them finishing anywhere from 1st to 4th. SIU looks to be solid again, but nothing dominant. SDSU should be solid, but I don't think they will challenge for the league title this year. We'll see if they recover from that disaster up in Montana. MSU showed some promise last year too.

I think the only thing for sure is that WIU and ISUb will finish at the bottom.

Without a doubt, it will be fun to see who rises to the top, I hope for the conference sake the top 6-7 teams can really step it up, Homer or not I truly believe NDSU is on the right track, I'm happy with the last 2 recruiting classes, but thet also leaves me to believe it will be 1-2 more years before we can make a challenging run. I will admit losing Paschall will be our biggest hit but we have some very qualified replacements. We never did get fully blown out last year so i'm banking on that as a sign we will at least be .500 or a little above

I'd put MSU in the 5th-7th range FWIW.

I'd stick YSU around the 4 spot for right now. Even after a horrific year last season, we still finished 6-5 on the year and had we had a better offensive attack, we could have gone 8-3, but that may be stretching it.

I think we have a good shot at 7+ wins with a favorable home schedule. This league needs 3-4 teams in the playoffs this year.

Not just 3 or 4 teams...but we need two teams to do something. Typically we only have one of our two teams do something. With the expansion we will need 2 teams to make deep runs....that is assuming the NCAA doesn't stick the MVFC and Big Sky teams in the same brackets causing early round match ups within conferences.

I'd laugh if the Sycamores ended up coming out of nowhere and finishing 2nd in the league, and getting an at-large.

That would be awesome . Unfortunately not likely. I definately think that NDSU is going to be a challenge week in and week out as much as I hate to admit it, just because of how good their O-line is. I also personally expect ISUr to be upsetting a couple of teas this year as well. Honestly I think SDSU if they had last years schedule would have a very good chance to run for the title, but with this schedule they would have to steal one from SIU or UNI at home and win at NDSU (which will happen  ), and I have a hard time seeing that, as well as sweeping their home schedule.
