The only 3 schools I can think of that don't operate at the full 85 schollys are the 3 military academies.

And in practice they have many more than 85 scholarships.

Hot off the press..

20.9.7.4 Additional Financial Aid Requirements. [FBS] The institution shall satisfy the following
additional financial aid requirements: (Adopted: 4/25/02 effective 8/1/04)
(a) Provide an average of at least 90 percent of the permissible maximum number of overall
football grants‐in‐aid per year over a rolling two‐year period; and
(b) Annually offer a minimum of 200 athletics grants‐in‐aids or expend at least four million
dollars on grants‐in‐aid to student‐athletes in athletics programs.

15k attendance over a 2 year rolling average. Check out how they count tickets...

With Rhode Island moving to the NEC I was just pondering what COULD happen. Just a random thought I am in no way shape or form saying this will ever happen because I honestly don’t know. I’ve heard yes and no, but who really knows. The image below shows how bored I was :) The teams are listed by average attendance in 2009.

Deleware Fightin Blue Hens
Stadium Capacity: 22,000 (2009 Avg: 20,750)
ODU Monarchs
Stadium Capacity: 19,782 (2009 Avg: 19,782)
JMU Dukes
Stadium Capacity: 15,500 (2009 Avg: 15,305)
Liberty Flames
Stadium Capacity: 19,200 (2009 Avg: 14,931)
UMass Minutemen
Stadium Capacity: 17,000 (2009 Avg: 10,887)
W&M Tribe
Stadium Capacity: 12,259 (2009 Avg: 9,641)
Richmond Spiders
Stadium Capacity: 22,000 (2009 Avg: 9,413)
UNH Wildcats
Stadium Capacity: 6,500 (2009 Avg: 7,543)
Villanova Wildcats
Stadium Capacity: 12,500 (2009 Avg: 7,111)
Towson Tigers
Stadium Capacity: 10,856 (2009 Avg: 6,283)
Maine Black Bears
Stadium Capacity: 10,000 (2009 Avg: 4,631)
Georgia St Panthers
Stadium Capacity: 71,228 (OMG! Do they plan to get their own stadium??? I think I’d be happy staying right there!)

Another reason I think LU moving to the CAA is because there will be more games within driving distance and that means higher attendance and more publicity for all of the teams :)

No offense but there's no incentive to add another team to CAA FB, especially another team from VA with zero ties to the CAA. LU makes even less sense than adding Charlotte or Fordham, IMO. (BTW, you didn't assign a red dot to Amherst, MA.)

I'd prefer an 11 team FB conference until/unless GMU, VCU or UNCW adds FB. Hope the CAA brass agrees.

Not my words but my thoughts exactly.
Dropping down to the less competitive Northeast Conference from the intensely competitive Colonial Athletic Association in 2013 makes sense for the University of Rhode Island’s football program, and here’s why.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.

URI would be an excellent addition to the NEC.
