Yeah, next year we should just go ahead and have the game the same weekend as Christmas - that would work out so much better. Or, we could add the title game to the list of games played on New Year's Day (although actually I wouldn't mind so much about that).

Who said anything about having it on Xmas? Who are you talking to?

Its been a long time since the semifinals, and there have been plenty of good days to hold the game. This long layoff is senseless.

Well, it's not terribly senseless. Since the playoffs were expanded this year (you did notice that, right?), if they had the game the Friday night after the semifinals that would've put the game on Christmas Eve night (super time for a game). The next weekend was New Year's Eve (again, I wouldn't have minded it on New Years Day, but not terribly unsensical to skip that date). So that brings us to this weekend. They could've had it during the week I suppose, but there is something to be said to having it on a weekend (or Friday night) as that makes it easy for fans to attend the game who also work. If we're going to have an extended playoff, then this is the outcome. Being a fan of a team in the game, the layoff has not been a letdown in the least.

Should have played the game then on the 28th or 29th. The layoff sucks, and the location sucks. They'll be lucky to break 10K with the Cotton Bowl going on up the road.

Any Saturday, in the fall, there can be 80,000+ in Austin and 12-13K 30 miles away in San Marcos. Cowboys Stadium is 50+- miles from Frisco. It's not an improbable scenario for both games to be well attended (in reference to each.)

Funny ......all the complainers seem to be fans of teams not in the championship. Multiple articles have quotes the UD and EWU coaches and players saying that the expansion and layoff has been a resounding success.

I agree - as a fan of one of the teams still alive, the layoff has been fantastic. I remember scrambling Saturday night to put together flights and everything to get to Chatty in '07 and it was a whirlwind. Barely had time to appreciate the moment before the game was over. This time around, anyone who wanted to go to the game had ample time to figure out how to get down there, airline prices were pretty reasonable since you weren't booking last minute, and after getting through Christmas, you had a solid two weeks to read article after article about the teams and the game. I can understand fans of teams who have long since finished their seasons not liking it, but for the participants and the fans of the schools still around, it's been fabulous. Plus, they're going to probably get 14k to the game, which is great considering the distances and the Cotton Bowl issue. Can't wait for the game!!!!!

I think the layoff was a good idea. It just makes sense on so many different levels, and everything I have read coming out of the EWU camp has said that they really liked having it.

I think that having a week to prepare for a NC games is "lame" - for both the teams and the fans of said teams.

It's the same way with all locations. I used to argue with people all the time that said Chatty sucked as a location. I had been there and they had not but they knew all the reasons it sucked.

89hen was probably the only guy with enough balls to say that he had been wrong and change his tune after being there.

It's probably best to listen to those with some actual experience in the matter at this point.

It would not have mattered if the game was in Frisco, Chattanooga, Charleston, or Orlando. The FCS title game does not appeal to many outside fans of the teams involved. Considering EWU only averaged 6,000 per game and the distance from Delaware to Frisco I expect there will be no more than 10,000 at the game.

They sold about 12,000 tickets in advance so I think it will probably be around 14,000 or so especially with the weather.

I talked to both 93hen & Kalm a couple hours ago and both are at the tailgate's and said it's looking really good, they like the set up so far, and all things concerning the event are going very well. 93hen had been to Lochrane's last night and said it was packed with UD people and all were having a great time. Kalm missed out on some of the EWU Alumni stuff I guess by skipping the party they were throwing last night so his trip has a little less fun so far (his own fault).

93 and his pop went to a Brazilian Steakhouse last night and he said he couldn't hardly walk out on his own after it.

So far the reports are all pretty glowing on the location and the good times being had there by both sides. :thumb:

As I'm typing I just got a text in from 93 as well with a picture of the Delaware tailgate area.

Great post...looks really great...I'm listening to the pre-game broadcast and it sounds like attendence will be just fine...add the fact that you have many former and current NFL players coming, the VP of the country, and two great teams with no red field...I'd say it will be just fine...the mayor of Frisco was just on and he was very happy with how things have worked out. The Cotton Bowl moved their game after this date was announced so what can you do...

Go Hens.

Is that what the Mayor said, or what you said?

the AT&T Cotton Bowl and FOX will move the Classic to Friday, January 7th and kickoff in prime time for the first time in the game’s history
Frisco wasn't chosen as the FCS site until late February 2010.

True, but I'm pretty sure the NC game was moved to this weekend in the fall of 09 before the Cotton Bowl moved its date.

Chatty and Frisco were both bidding on January NC games, right?

Correct, but only one is a suburb of Dallas. (I think it was even in 2008 when the NCAA moved our game)

KC on his radio show that the game was switched after the deal with Frisco was made...the mayor also elluded to that and recognized how unfortunate that was

Don't shoot the messenger...honestly...I could care less about attendence...12,000-14,000 is fine...It the first time playing in Frisco...Those who are interested in the FCS will watch...those who aren't won't...

I would have been real confused by that as well and I've been in most of these conversations since it all started so I'm here to back ya on this one.

89, stop shooting the messenger here. :D
