I am almost speachless.

UNO is a slam dunk for the Summit. Great fit. Now they have to find a home for their football team. MVFC is a good fit for them, but does the MVFC want to add a team? Big Sky is not as good of a fit geographically, but it would take the Big Sky to 14 and they could split into two 7 team divisions. It will be interesting to see what happens. I would not mind seeing Utah Valley adding football and joining the Big Sky. Better geographical fit.

Mike Johnson wrote:Ok, thanks for posting on magnetic theory.

Years ago, I was on a board with considerable discussion about NDSU and SDSU moving up and UND and USD staying, primarily out of interest about the future of what is now UVU. I recall posting about the "land grants" and then had to explain what a land grant college is after several inquiries. Almost immediately, I saw "the Mighty Land Grants" for the first time. I have been amused over the years by the use of that phrase to describe NDSU and SDSU on various boards. I don't know whether it was my post or somebody else's that started that trend. But, it is possible that phrase originated with me on these boards. It is also possible it was used before, but I had not seen it used in considerable discussion before I posted it. The other amusing part, is when I think of "Mighty Land Grant", Ohio State, Penn State, Auburn, Florida, and Nebraska come to mind well before any schools at a lower level. Thus, when somebody tries to explain the "facts" of the NDSU-UND dispute and use the term "Mighty Land Grants" I kick myself for possibly introducing the term into the debate.
You're still on that board with me. Except you have the Dixie St. logo. :thumb: It woulda been nice if JBB bet me huh. I could have saved you all but he was wise to back down.

Utah Valley, yes, if they wanted to add football it'd be a no-brainer. Wonder if the Big Sky has been in contact with them.

UNO, no - nowhere near any of the other schools in the conference.

Oh, wait.....we already added UND.

I think its up to the MVFC. The Summit has leverage with the MVFC, we saw that with the addition of USD. That was a suprise to Fullerton and myself. The MVFC had not shown any interest in expansion. Now comes UNO. There is nothing wrong with an 11 team conference especially for schools wanting to limit travel to outliers.

This would look nice
MVFC
West
UNI
NDSU
SDSU
USD
UND
UNO
East
WIU
Illinois St.
SIU
Indiana St.
Missouri St.
Youngstown St.

Sure beats UND having to fly to MSU, Montana, Idaho St. UNC, EWU, PSU if they do a North/South. have they decided N/S or E/W in the SKy? If they're in the East. UNC, MSU, Montana, Idaho St., Weber St.

Maybe the Gateway and Summit divisions? Gateway and NCC divisions?

The NCC division is probably better because all of the schools in it have a history with the old NCC. They arent all in the Summit.

It looks good without UND too. MIght even look better. Im sure the BSC is happy with their decision. I know UND has been crowing about it.

Would the Gateway and Summit divisions be balanced. I suppose that doesn't really matter, looking at the Big 12. But, it was the #1 consideration for the Big Ten in creating the Leaders and Legends divisions. It is hard enough remembering who in the ACC is in the atlantic and who is in the coastal divisions.

But, UND gives both divisions and even 6 and eases travel in the Big Sky. It is a win-win. That is if they aren't trying to use banned emblems and symbols in post-season play or for that matter what the conference and its members ban as well. Someday, you are going to want to make up with your twin brother, well have a normally heated rivalry.

Unbalanced would be fine. No need for travel partners in a football conference. Its better this way Mike. The Big Sky is fortunate to have them. They went after them with a vengeance and tore them from the north central footprint for a reason. Good for them.

UND couldn't accept fast enough. It wouldn't be odd behavior on their part to leave the BSC in the lurch, but they have been so proud of the invitation you almost have to think they are sincere about this one?

When UND decided to go with the BSC it left the Summit in a pinch to be sure. The hard words between the two institutions reflected that. Now the Summit, and apparently the MVFC, will be able to add UNO. Its a lucky recovery for us. It seems to have potential for something big too.

I agree with Mike. UND and UNO would round out the MVFC and Summit nicely. The plus is we would get to see ALL the great schools of the Dakotas reunited in one conference. Wouldn't that be great JBB? ;)

I would love to have UND stay in the Big Sky, as the flagship and most recognized of all the Dakota schools.

However, I would understand if they got a MVFC/Summit invite - the geography makes sense.

I of course am concerned about the Big Sky. They spent so much time and effort rushing UND it would seem almost barbaric for the new FCS promotional engine - MVFC/Summit league - to try and steal them away. Its great to look out for The MIghty Dakota Land Grants, but I would ask others to consider UNDs needs as well. Would you really advocate them leaving the Big Sky, something they say, in so many words, is more valuable than gold?

That is too bad. I think they could have been a good FCS team. As a football fan I am never happy to see a school drop football.

Well I guess UND will stay in the Big Sky as long as the MVFC doesn't want 11. Now the Summit needs to call Grand Valley St. if they want to help the MVFC get to 12 and bring UND.
