elcid83, just because you don't know it doesn't mean it's not true
Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
Wachenheim took one look at "the mess and lack of funding" and ran. Maybe Sanders was offered who knows. But we've got Ron Dickerson and we will like it!

What mess? Not being sarcastic but please explain.fanzone wrote:Wachenheim took one look at "the mess and lack of funding" and ran. Maybe Sanders was offered who knows. But we've got Ron Dickerson and we will like it!
Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
bulldogdad, don`t you think this hiring process has been somewhat of a mess? No official announcement, 1 weekend left for recruiting, meanwhile every school we play and every conference opponent is using it against us. Not to mention how fair is it to our players? I would call that a mess!

Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
Been out of the loop all day but expected to hit the computer and see an announcement of the announcement or the announcement itself. Without a doubt this is one process of epic failure. There can be little doubt that probably 2 candidates have been offered and terms could not be reached so here we are with the 1st of only 2 available Official Visit weekends upon us, one week for a final recruiting push, no HC and no news coming from any quarter of where we are except for one new poster indicating that Dickerson is the guy. You can't be so naive in your search of a HC for this level of football to believe that it's not gonna cost the going rate and it seems likely that we're discount shopping. There's an old saying that "good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good ". There can't be so big a difference between what the rate of compensation is to land our top choice(s) and what they are apparently willing to pay to have things fall as they have. I mean what are we talking about, $25k to $50k? It makes us look cheap to have things evolve the way they have so that will also be used against us in recruiting too. Maybe we're on a path to moving back to D2.

Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
Not a mess. Recruiting has gone on despite all of this and we are doing well. We have some good commits and are in the hunt for lots of others. Big basketball weekend and having Ron here this weekend to meet the kids coming in for a visit will help a lot. Don't worry about other schools in the conference using "this" against us. That's just talk and most kids realize recruiters are as guilty as anyone else of trash talk. The team is meeting right now and will be given the official word. I think Ron is on campus and will meet with them.fanzone wrote:bulldogdad, don`t you think this hiring process has been somewhat of a mess? If they are hosting visitors this weekend, it would have been good to let some of the team know. If Dickerson is our new coach why did they not make an announcement today? He might be the guy and I would have no problem with that, but it is senseless not to announce it.

How do you know about the commitments? Who has committed?

ElCid83 - Based on this process, we are not ready for prime time as an institution regardless of who the new HC is or how well he does. This would be comedy of outlandish proportion if it weren't so bad either in reality or perception. Hell, our tailgate group could have done at least this good if not better even with a pop or two.

OK, since a new coach is in place, anyone have an idea on G-W's '11 schedule template? ![#coffee :coffee:](./images/smilies/coffee.gif)

Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
G-W unnecessarily dragged out the hiring process for Chris Holtmann, who was far and away the best choice. With hoops, it did not have that adverse an effect on recruiting.
The same dragging out process has taken place now with football, along with apparently two flat out rejections of the job offer itself.
Back in 2002, when the entire academic/NCAA scandal was at full bore, I was stunned that, agree with him or not, school President Chris White got ousted, while the head hoops coach Scruggs and AD Chuck Burch did not even receive any reprimand whatsoever. At that time, I thought Burch should have been shown the door.
This latest display with the rather simple hiring of a football coach makes me wonder if Burch has ran his course at G-Webb, and whether or not some new leadership is needed in order to get our entire athletic department operating at the highest level possible, both on and off the field. Chuck is a real nice guy and all, but sometimes changes need to be made for the good of the institution. It might be time.

Ok g-webb1994 your comparing apples to oranges. I agree Chis Holtman is a great hire. But Scruggs already had a recruiting class in place. Basketball has an early signing date. Loosing a signing class in football can set you back 2 yrs. Now Dickerson is coming in next week. Do you think he has kids in mind to bring in next weekend. Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
Scruggs didn't land Luke Davis, Holtmann did, and he is who the program will be built around the next four years. Scruggs deserves none, and will not receive one iota of credit for anything involving the mens hoops program. Appy deserves him.fanzone wrote:Ok g-webb1994 your comparing apples to oranges. Your missing the point. Basketball and football recruiting are two different animals. Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
Not in disagreement with you there either....whoever the coach is, the job he now has is 1000% tougher due to the dragging out of the process, with apparently no plan in place. Think back....it took them until two weeks after the season was over to show Patton the door, which should have been done no later than the Monday after the VMI game with an aggressive search for a HC to follow. So much for that....doomed from the start.fanzone wrote:Your missing the point. Basketball and football recruiting are two different animals. KD, I'm a lawyer and you have to prove things to me before I believe them. There is no proof that GW's coaching search is over. Think about this. We know Coach Dickerson is not going back to Ole Miss because they have already hired his replacement. What possible motivation is there to not announce him as our next head coach if he is the next head coach. Why would a university President and AD continue to torture their fans, players, parents, and financial supporters if they had made a decision.kdinva wrote:OK, since a new coach is in place, anyone have an idea on G-W's '11 schedule template?
I think we are going to get some bad news next week and that bad news is that we have to start over with this search process.

Dang good question. But, no one will ask.

Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
Torture was not intentional. The process took as long as was necessary. Now it's over. An official announcement will be made once personnel issues have been processed.longtimegwufan wrote:Why would a university President and AD continue to torture their fans, players, parents, and financial supporters if they had made a decision.
