We'd sell out our playoff games.
Our administration and coaches are committed to the FCS. In fact, Coach Wilder is a huge fan of Montana and in his speeches to our fans, he wants us to become the Montana of the East Coast. I have enough faith in the people running the show and our fans that I have no doubt we'll reach those levels. We're not here to play in the CAA...we're here to dominate. All it's going to take is our patience, but we know that time only nears in every passing day. For now we'll simply enjoy the ride. If we're gonna be in the FCS, we're gonna do it right.
I have no doubt that you're commited to it, and I think that's great.
But like I said, you'll figure it all out (that includes attendance) as things move along. Nobody, and I mean nobody 'sells out' their games during the playoffs. Revenue starts being shared with the NCAA, games start appearing in HD on ESPN (maybe on a Thursday night), the weather gets a bit brisker, students have to start forking over a bit more money for their tickets, and before you know it, App State is averaging 14,514 for 2 home playoff games.

So you've figured out the first-round attendance mystery that just about no other school has ever been able to figure out, and you haven't even played in a single playoff game yet?!?! B R I L L I A N T ! ! !
Yes.

These guys are right, and we have experience in this as well, but in another sport. A couple of years ago we hosted Clemson in basketball in the early part of the season but it was not part of the season ticket package because it was a 4 team tournament (sponsored by Cox). Attendance was horrible. Getting people to shell out additional dollars, especially in late November, will be difficult, even for us. Students will have to pay for tickets to playoff games. That will cut attendance by at least 2500 right there.

Jeebus Andy, I am trying to ground my brethren and you send the thread back into the cesspool.

Do I really have to post the highlights from the Montana-App State game?

There hasn't been any Thur night playoff games that I'm aware of. Can't look up exact #s on blackberry, but JMU came close to a sellout in 08' qtr final vs Nova (close to 15k in 15.5k capacity, and sold out Fri night semi final vs Montana in near freezing temps (close to 16k official attendance). With JMUs student body, alumni, and fan base growing every year, no doubt in my mind could draw high teens/low 20s k announced attendance for a non Thanksgiving weekend home playoff game. Wouldn't be a sellout in new stadium, but would be very good crowd none the less.

I'm not sure how that would make a difference, but by all means go ahead. If you'd find it easier, you could probably just tell us what the listed attendance was in comparison to the actual capacity of the stadium, and whether or not it was a sellout.

Attendence was 24,200 (close enough to a sellout) on a freezing cold, snowy night, and the game was televized on ESPN2.
However, we do typically see crowds that are 5-6k under capacity for first round games, so I tend to agree with everyone else that ODU will have a similar situation.

...
Another thing ODU fans will figure out along the way...When Montana get's 'close enough' they just toss out the rules and call it a sell out.

It is based on ticket sales not fans in the stands. If they sold 25,600 tickets and no one showed up, like that would ever happen, it would be a sell out.

Man, if only we could draw 10,000 for a semi-final game against a six-time FCS champ.
Or two years ago in the Semi's and it is on TV and was it Vill or Rich that had 3k maybe 4k? Wish the Griz had fan support like that.

About 25 heads south of 16k for the semi.
I can't seem to find anything listing the actual capacity prior to the beautiful new addition, but will take your word for it, stand corrected and amend my prior statement:
'Nobody, and I mean nobody sells out a playoff game, except JMU when they were playing in a stadium about 40% smaller than their renovated stadium.'

The good news about the attendance in the semi against GSU is that nobody could ever confuse it as a sell out, since it clearly wasn't. We'd just be blowing hot air, if we called it a sellout, since everyone knows what a sellout is. And when it's not a sellout, it would be foolish to ever call it a sellout, or make a big deal about it being a sellout, since we'd be dead wrong. And if we were foolish like that, and did call it a sellout, and puffed up our chest about it, and were wrong, then we'd probably resort to some other tactic to draw attention away from the fact that it wasn't actually a sell out.

Point is, IAmTheLiqour, you seem to be a little bitter about the fact that Delawhere doesn't draw shit for playoff games, and you're also worried that ODU might just beat the shit out of you in that facet when/if they start making the postseason.

Well, we did draw more for playoff games that Wash-Griz Stadium did last year, correct?

You sure did, chief. It's just a shame 13,000 of your regular fans didn't get the memo that your team was still playing.
Its tough to say how ODU will draw for attendance if and when we make the playoffs. We're currently the only entertainment in town when it comes to sports so there is increasing demand for tickets along with the fact that winters aren't as bad in comparison to obviously Montana and other FCS towns. Also in addition with the increased excitement alone of making the playoffs I think we'd have no problem selling out games. I think if and when we start making the playoffs consistently than thats when we won't sell out every playoff game.

oh okay, where did you read that? just wondering. That move makes sense since moving the band to a different location doesn't require that much space. I assume they are being moved to under the scoreboard?
I was also at alumni tailgate this past friday and was able to go on a tour of foreman field and the guy who conducted the tour said they are also adding another couple rows of seats in the gameday facility.
It's been said a few times on CAAzone now. Don't remember which threads but I can find them if you want.
My assumption is that they build the platform to the area on the left of this pic:
And grizalltheway, our band takes up a lot of space for some reason. See the bottom right of this pic where there's an empty space in the stands. That's roughly 500 seats.
I'm gonna be in the band next year, so I hope we get at least a semi-decent view of the game
EDIT: Remember when this topic was about VCU and City Stadium?

NO. This thread is now about Montana, our incredibly awesome fans, and our loud, cold stadium. Try to keep up, young padawan.
