That's about as much second half domination in a title game as I've ever seen. Congrats, Bison fans. You've earned it!

Nicely done, NDSU.
That is what a championship team looks like. They mopped up everyone...and would have beaten anyone else in the playoff brackets.

Re: Sam Houston vs North Dakota St
I enjoyed the heck out of that. I enjoy watching physical, old school teams wear out fancy pantsy, bells and whistles teams. Love watching a team that plays great defense, keeps mashing on offense, then gradually wears the opponent down. That was classic. Loved watching NDSU running backs running through the tackle attempts by gassed SHSU defenders in the fourth quarter. Loved watching NDSU use its two fullback formation and mash the BearKats. In the end the Bison had 300 yards rushing at 6.7 yards per carry and a lot of it was fourth quarter smash mouth. Beautiful.
Love watching great defense too. Sam Houston's high scoring offense failed to TOTAL 20 points in TWO games over the past two years against NDSU. Also, once again, they pretty much took away SHSU's running game. It was clear SHSU didn't even have confidence in trying to run the ball in very short yardage situations. SHSU made some plays in the running game but ended with only 116 rushing yards and were pretty much forced to try to turn into a passing team. They actually did a pretty good job of it but I think if an opponent can do that to SHSU they've won more than half the battle.
I do think SHSU had a chance but they needed to get up on NDSU early and had some bad luck when they had some chances to do that. There were two awful no calls on obvious NDSU pass interference infractions and had the calls been made maybe they'd have scored. Also that was tough getting that TD run by Flanders called back on a holding call that might not always be called and was away from the play.
But, today, once it got the fourth quarter with NDSU in the lead is was over. And I got to see what I wanted to see: SHSU got a thorough physical butt whipping.

Next up Kansas State for NDSU. I believe something like 19 starters will be back for next season. Put me in the books as giving them a fair shot at going 2-0 vs Kansas State and Montana St. to start the season.

Re: Sam Houston vs North Dakota St
Back to back. #1. So damn proud right now.
That game was a classic NDSU game - especially against spread teams. Keep it close in the first half and just play tough, physical, grind-it-out football - wear the other team down and bury them in the second half.
Also... the PAT and the jump pass may be two of the most amazing plays in Bison football history.

Too bad SHSU can't play their best today.
Favourite distance is 800. Raced 3000 i today.
I saw the final score. Don't even feel like watchin' the part I missed. Of what I did see the Bearkats didn't play up to their potential making the game not that interesting. It's always exciting when opponents give their best.

Some of those calls (or not calls) are BS like an obvious PI that SHOULD HAVE been called against NDSU but WASN'T.
I don't agree with officials from the Big Sky calling the game.
So far it's all going just about 100% the way I figured it would go.
Should they have Southland or MVFC refs in there?
I don't agree with having Big Sky officials. I don't think they should've had Southland or MVFC officials in there either.
Maybe Ivy League officials should call the game since the IL doesn't participate in the playoffs.

Big props to the Bison!
NDSU seemed to have EVERYTHING covered in this game! The muffed extra point that turned into a 2 point conversion was a thing of beauty & great coaching!!
Congrats!

Thanks for the congrats Grizz. I will have to concur with you on a number of my fellow Bison fans, and that is unfortunate as many of us(98%) are respectful. It's just that some of the 2% that choose to post aren't always the most respectful. Every team has their "posters", but they seem to become worse when their team is winning. So there is no doubt that if you were to take any FCS team with the same succes as the Bison the last two years. Your post would be just as relevent. Again, thanks for the congrats Grizz!!grizzaholic wrote:I will say congrats to the NDSU team and coaches.

Well, I wouldn't say they "mopped up everyone." I think both Wofford and Georgia Southern gave them all they wanted. They especially had their hands full with Georgia Southern. But they got it done and they're the ones I wanted to win the championship given who was in the field so I'm good with it.That is what a championship team looks like. They mopped up everyone...and would have beaten anyone else in the playoff brackets.

Re: Sam Houston vs North Dakota St
According to google maps & wiki:
SHSU, 17.6k students.
Huntsville, TX- Frisco: 199 miles/3 hours.
NDSU
14.4k students.
Fargo-Frisco: 1065 miles/15:48 hours.
Yet NDSU definitely had way more fans- seemed like 2 to 1. Great support by NDSU fans. Smaller school, over 5x the distance, and they brought way more fans.
As far as SHSU, only 3 hrs away and had what, only maybe 6-8k fans there?

Re: Sam Houston vs North Dakota St
Congrats to NDSU. I looked at their game notes from a game earlier this season, and 20 of 22 starters were non seniors.
I would bet on NDSU 3 peating. Think the only thing that could prevent that was if they lost some returning starters in the offseason for one reason or another or got hit bad with the injury bug to their 2 deep during the season.
I would also bet on NDSU losing to Kansas State and maybe 1 other game. 15-0 (or make that 16-0 next season) would be awfully tough even for a great team, esp with a bullseye on your back for every game. Last team to do that off the top of my head was who, Marshall in their last yr in I-AA in 96' when they won the NC going 15-0 with Randy Moss? I remember some people thinking that was the greatest I-AA team ever assembled.

Wofford scored 7 points. Seven. Se-ven. 7. 6+1. You are saying that is championship material?JohnStOnge wrote:Well, I wouldn't say they "mopped up everyone." GSU scored 20, but 7 of those were on a 49-yard trick play play where the NDSU defender decided to fall alseep and then kiss the ball carrier. So, really, 14 points. And how many over two years? Ooooooooooohh, scary.
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
GSU's bread and butter got them 270 yards...hardly a problem.
NDSU was vulnerable this year...limited offense...but no team they faced was good enough or balanced enough to solve their weakness. More of a statement of the weakness of FCS than the stregnth of NDSU.
For those SoCon teams that think Wofford and GSU would have beaten SHSU...who cares? They probably would not have made it past EWU. Remember, EWU, once they remembered they were playing a football game, absolutely blew SHSU out in the second half.
And for those who think stats/yardage rule, Cal Poly drubbed SHSU in the stats columns also.
