I think you are looking at Dad's bio Snake. Jr.'s last job was as WR coach at Ole Miss.snakeeyes wrote:This is the best we can get - NAIA - nice guy - but past records speak for themselves. I'm in awe or should I say stunned?

Can you say LEAK? You guys have been entertaining with all the speculation.... Believe it or not. Or is it that you don't want Dickerson?sun-tzu wrote:There will be no bad news next week.elcid83 wrote:
KD, I'm a lawyer and you have to prove things to me before I believe them. There is no proof that GW's coaching search is over. Think about this. We know Coach Dickerson is not going back to Ole Miss because they have already hired his replacement. What possible motivation is there to not announce him as our next head coach if he is the next head coach. Why would a university President and AD continue to torture their fans, players, parents, and financial supporters if they had made a decision.
I think we are going to get some bad news next week and that bad news is that we have to start over with this search process.

I can't speak for everyone, but I would be delighted to call RD Jr. our next HC. Im simply disappointed there is no official word coming out of Boiling Springs yet.

Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
I believe that RD will do a great job as well elcid83. His bio is impressive and he appears to be someone that would care about the players both on the field and off. I especially was impressed with the organization that he had begun for youth (R.U.N.T.) - Recognizing Undeveloped Natural Talents, a youth organization designed to improve opportunities for young people in and out of athletics.. Those of you that are on campus this weekend for visiting recruits, let us know if you see any signs of RD on campus.

He is not on campus and there are no recruits on campus

elcid,
I think (unless I'm reading it wrong) that lontime was calling the process you were commenting on incompetent, not you. The fact that there is no announcement after this long, so-called, process, and how it has drug out needlessly.
So, I have to say this is beyond ridiculous. It would appear that the administration is intentionally setting the program back (I know they aren't), recruiting is suffering, but most importantly, the kids on the team are suffering. I am sure they are ready to move forward and focus on this off-season and prepare for next year. Not only is the administration showing levels of incompetency, but are just being down right inconsiderate... at least let the players know what is going on!!

Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
I also have no problem with Ron Dickerson, Jr. if he is the guy. However until it's announced, he's not the guy or if he were there is no and I mean no explanation for not announcing it. If it's personnel issues, and he's the guy and they are not related to him there is no need to delay the announcement. If it's personnel issues and he's the guy and the personnel issues are directly related to him then there are still issues that could derail his hiring similar to apparently two other hiring attempts this past week. I maintain that GWU has gone discount shopping and has come to learn that some things even in a Walmart cost the going rate. One earlier poster stated that the HC hiring took as long as was necessary. I couldn't disagree more. The university took too long and while we eventually will have a new HC, there can be little doubt that he will be either the 2nd or 3rd choice not the 1st and that we have totally screwed the pooch on this year's recruiting class.
We have 6 OL to take the field for spring ball, that is ridiculous and we have wasted 3 weeks of potential Official Visits to try and bolster a key position for the offensive side of the ball that lacks any kind of reasonable depth. The process has been more like a joke and the program and Ron Dickerson, Jr. if he is our guy has been set back. We got two BCS programs on the schedule and a SOCON team in Samford coming up. Take a look at their rosters and see how many returning OL they have. If you have a key need you don't fritter away 3 of the 4 available weeks of Officials while your competition in recruiting is whipping your tail, cleaning your clock and laughing their ass off.
All of our returning players deserve better than what they have gotten in this process. Let's hope that Ron Dickerson, Jr. can come in and do in a week what most every other new HC hire at other institutions has been given months to do. I wish it weren't so but G-Dubb's current program is not good enough to spot our competition anything, we have to scratch, brawl and claw for everything we get. We haven't blown out a quality FCS program in years and most often are involved in nail biters even when we win against similar caliber teams. Not that my opinion matters a whit to Bonner and Burch but they are the leaders in this process and they have failed the troops badly.
I hope that even after all this that we are surprised in a positive way but hope is not a recipe for success in collegiate football.

Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
Well, footballscoop.com is tenderly reporting the possibility that RD, Jr. is our new HC.
"Gardner-Webb: We hear Ron Dickerson Jr may have accepted the Gardner-Webb head coaching job. We have not confirmed this information yet."
Still no official word from Boiling Springs. If I knew he was going to be introduced to us at tonight's basketball game, I might make the effort to attend.

Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
I believe Ron Dickerson Jr. is a good choice. He is young, energetic and looking to make a name for himself as a HC. I dont see him shaking up the current staff too bad. Eagle, I count 9 returning OL if all are healthy and stay. My concern with the length of this process is how many current players we could lose. Some have left for different reasons and I'm sure some are being "courted" by other schools. We do need more OL for depth. That was one problem last year with injuries. I believe at Stony Brook we were down to 6 OL and #6 had a broken forearm. Good luck to the new coach and to our current staff.
Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
Well. Take this for what it's worth, but I have been able to confirm that GW has come to terms with an unnamed candidate. The contract is being circulated and I seriously doubt that GW's legal counsel is working today or tomorrow. Should be in place next week hopefully. I feel better now, but will really feel good when I see our next head coach standing behind the GW podium.

Re: New Gardner-Webb Head Coach
Bulldogdad - I was under the impression that our list of O-lineman available going in to Spring Ball consists of the following:
#59 Austin Sargent - Jr. 6'-3", 290
#67 Jamie Dunaway - Jr. 6'-4", 280
#71 Jeff Harris - RSo 6'-2" 290
#72 Zack Welch - RSr 6'-2" 290
#75 Dave McConnell - RFr 6'-5" 270
#78 Harrison Martin - RJr 6'-6" 290
I understand that Steve Demilio #79, RJr - 6'-5" 280 is coming off shoulder surgery and will not be ready for spring ball. I heard that Robbie Sanders #63 RFr - 6'-0" 280 was moved to the D side of the ball during the season. Jacob McQueen and Colin Dawes are 2 other OL that have left the program/school. There has been some discussion that Tyler Hough Jenkins could be moved to the DL and will have to add bulk from his RFr season of 255# to have the size likely necessary to stay at OL. C.J. Bryant, Patrick Wilson and Corey O'Daniel have all graduated. Those were all the OL designated on last season's roster. Have you heard of some DL being converted to OL?
The tough thing is that while Dunaway came in and made an immediate impact at OL that is the exception not the rule when it comes to freshman OL being factors in the playing rotation. When you look at the fact that of those 6 healthy bodies going in to Spring Ball and add in Demilio who will be fine for summer camp then we have 7 players of which 5 only have 2 years of eligibility left. We desperately need OL in this recruiting class and the next. I was thinking this HC hiring process has resulted in only 1 remaining weekend of Official Visits before Signing Day. A long stretch of recruiting since last season ended until an actual hiring announcement is made with no HC in place can't be a good thing for recruiting.
I hope we have our guy and that he absolutely is a fantastic coach who can turn a tough situation and one in my opinion that didn't have to be this tough into a positive one. Regardless the process has put the new guy at a decided disadvantage in recruiting and this recruiting class is one that we need help with to develop depth for the upcoming season and experience for the future. G-Dubb has been pretty lucky along the injury front with our OL and that good fortune can go away at any time.

I'm a complete outsider from Liberty, but I can attest to EagleDawg's loyalty & support of G-W over the course of the last year on here. Sometimes passion can be confused for disloyalty. EagleDawg seems to be full of the former and certainly not the latter.
