In the Small College division and D2 45 scholarships were allowed. Thats now been whittled down to 28 I think.

I do know the difference between scholarships at the D2 and FCS levels is greater now than the difference between FCS and FBS.
Dear Lord, We come before you and humbly ask you to grant our prayer for a veil of protection to be placed over Donald Trump. May your will be done. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

That's why there is some confusion. Maybe 30-35% of I-AA came from Division I and 70-75% from Division II, so therefore Small College/"old" Division II doesn't equal current FCS but was the closest thing available at the time.

So the debate becomes were there enough teams playing outside of Small College who are now FCS to make Small College Championships substantially different from I-AA/FCS since 1982?
There are so many factors to consider. Younger folks hear Patriot and think of the Patriot teams of today, not knowing that they were much better in the 70's. They would also think too highly of teams like W&M and Richmond who are I-AA players now, but were really weak in the 70's as a part of the SoCon.

All anyone has to do is go back and look at UD's schedules back then. 1975: Akron, El Cid, UNH, McNeese, UConn, Lehigh, Temple, Nova, Maine, Bucknell. The only current D2 on the slate that year was West Chester... just like today.

Christ, you're stupid. At least Delaware's D-II titles were won when D-II was the next level down from D-I, whereas YOUR D-II titles were won when it was TWO levels down from D-I. Not even comparable, Einstein.

How else could you come off looking so dumb? Seriously AZGriz, you are the dumbest, loudest and most embarrassing poster in this thread so, do you think you are a total embarrassment to all of the Griz fans or just yourself?

Take notice MONTANA fans. You did not invent football. NDSU, did in-fact, invent the game by winning the first two titles in 1085 and 1086.

Me, being a SUU fan, would like to thank NDSU for inventing such a great game.

I remember the Patriot still having some good teams in the 90s. The SoCon of the 60s & 70s was split almost evenly between I-A & I-AA teams, so I don't think UR did too bad from '67-'76, even 5-6 was decent, and we did win the SoCon 4 out of those 10 years. I'll let the W&M people reminisce about Marv Levy & Lou Holtz...

BTW I wasn't trying to point out that you were wrong, just why it gets debated.

Oh, and speaking of the 70s, Damn Toledo! '69-'71

IMO, there was no level of football in the seventies that is really comparable to the FCS level of today.

YSU was the most successful DIAA-FCS Program in history, but have fallen from grace since Tressel left. Hey, I think he needs a job, right :|
On December 12, 1775 the Continental Congress created a Battalion of minuteman from the three counties in Delaware. Kent county militia were fans and owners of Game Cocks; Fight'n Blue Hens as they were called. The Fight'n Blue Hens became known far and wide as the very best Fighting Game Cocks around. Thus, the Blue Hen was established.
