No, they don't sellout their stadium anymore. Can't blame them though...tough to do when a large portion of your fanbase is dying of old age every year and their young alumni are apathetic to UD sports. And yes, I did some research and young Delaware alumni do in fact exist in real life. I know, I was stunned too.
Even harder to sell out, when you're supposed to try and convince people that a harmless opponent team with no resume or tradition is worth the $30 ticket price that you could otherwise invest in Busch Light, Kielbasa & charcoal and getting underaged coeds drunk with.

I honestly have no idea, it all depends on whatever allotment UD's AD gives to ODU. I expect ODU to use that completely and then I think you'll see some random ODU fans here and there. It is definitely easier traveling to Newark then it is to Atlanta.
ODU fans would be smart not to pay face value through your AD when UD is offering cut rate ticket offers abundantly this year. They have tickets in "Keeler's Corner" (visitor side, opposite end from the visitor's allotment area) for $9 some weeks. I think you'd be wasting money (like me and the rest of the UD season ticket holders) if you paid more than $20 for a ticket.

That may give you some idea why we are dropping STH's like crazy. People in Sections D and K are paying $45/game.

CAA home opener? I'd like to think that alone would help the chances of the game selling out.

Actually, I personally know 7 people who got tix through the this deal before it ended:

And I know a couple of others on CAAzone and MonarchNation that did as well. $49 for 4 tix in a good section. Nice.

I guess I can see that with the type of success Delaware football has had in the past. You can bet when ODU returns home next weekend for the home opner against UMass it will be a capacity crowd and I won't be surprised if there's at least 400-500 people watching from the garage.

If that were true you wouldn't be checking out UD basketball message boards, or responding to UD posters on this board. You read and respond because you care.

There's another example of how the season ticket base is being undercut. You can get four sideline reserves for $49 in that deal.

Here are what UD season ticket holders are paying for four tickets to a game with the mandatory donation averaged, not counting reserved parking, which starts at $25/game:

Sections D & K: $187
Sections C (where BHBK, GF, and I all are),E,J, L : $137
Sections B, F, I, M: $120
Sections G, H, N: $87

Ramon is the classic ODU smacker this week - beat the chest, trump up the bravado, but he still says they're going to lose & he's gonna talk tough anyway...

Not to go off on a tangent but, sounds like a guy who's world is caving in on him, their premier sport is hoops & what has happened with that? Well in-state rivals GMU & VCU BOTH make the Final 4 in the past few years. Their women's team which used to dominate the CAA but never do much in the postseason has been passed by JMU & UD and just had their coach resign in the offseason.

But then again they can talk about all their National Championships at ODU which I know all of their posters include in their signature in the rough & tumble NCAA sport of...wait for it....wait for it....Sailing.

Sorry to divert attention back to this week: AP, he's #30 if you don't have the money for a program, you'll be seeing a ton of him on Saturday. You can't stop him, you can only hope to keep him under a buck 50. Nihja White, you'll see him too. I could go on but let's just leave it at this, Delaware isn't Jacksonville ( a team that handled ODU), there are weapons everywhere you look. Such is life in the CAA. Hey, I'm glad ODU finally saw the light a few years ago & joined the league. After going to some crappy venues for years, ODU should be a solid contributor down the road. If I was an ODU fan I'd be excited, but some of you guys are jumping way ahead of yourselves. Take yourself back to what you've been posting for months - we'll be happy with winning 2 or 3 CAA games this year. I'll agree that's reasonable - a win this week over maybe the best team in the CAA, which you'll see for yourself on Saturday - a bit of a stretch.

By the way, what season does Sailing even happen in?
You can't talk smack and cover your ass. Either nut up or shut up, this dullrazor guy is doing neither.

After Saturday's game with the Hampton dance team (which were great and made many of us feel a little dirty), Big Blue is looking forward to the taste of some fresh young hen this weekend.

Just today, he roared. "Where the blue women at?........."

Towson returned the 1000 tickets they allotted for Towson fans because the face value of $38 to sit in the corner of the upper deck was VASTLY overpriced to the 50 yard line tickets season ticket holders were asking on the online sites. Like $25 cheaper.
My old roommate's wife is friends with a suite owner at Byrd that is basically giving us his tickets to the game. Big giant empty tower of fail.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Sure we can get back to the game, in a minute.

The thing that is embarassing and distracting when you look at it - it's your signature. Specifically the part about 32 NC's, 114 All-Americans & 50 Olympians. Did you ever research that & see where those #'s come from? The majority, 80-90% of them come from one heckuva run your field hockey team had in the 90's and from a club sport - sailing. Heck, you're even counting multiple national championships in the same year with sailing, again a club sport, not sponsored by the NCAA. That's like a school saying they won multiple NC's in track because they won multiple events. In all seriousness congrats on the womens hoops NC in 1985, I didn't know ODU won that, impressive. However, if your name on this board is accurate & you graduated ODU in 2011, they won that NC exactly 4-5 years before you were born, which would make that a violation. All-Americans & Olympians? Again, save for Anne Donovan, it's littered with Sailing (club sport) and Field Hockey.

So you want to talk football?

QB - I'd give ODU an edge there, slight one. Donnelly is who I'd expect you'll see on Saturday. Not much of a running threat, really his 3rd game ever vs DeMarco's 3rd year but he is completing 80% of his throws.

RB - Decent edge for UD. AP had 1,600+ last year and hasn't been held under 100 so far this year. When he gets a blow David Hayes comes in - faster than AP & actually has a higher YPC so far. ODU brings a nice "two-headed monster" into the game to quote your local papers but they're not AP.

WR - Even. Both teams have some nice wideouts, Vaughan for ODU & White for UD being the top of the bunch. It seems that both squads have some depth there too.

OL - Big edge for UD. Veteran OL for UD littered with All-CAA & All-American honorees. Big aid for rushing success and keeping any heat off QB. Easily the best ODU will have ever faced.

DL - Even. ODU's DL has created some pressure on lesser opponents, and both teams have not allowed opponents to run the ball, save for Navy that can run on anyone in the country.

LB - Edge to UD. Worrillow is a big-time tackler & can get after it, Harrison is a 4-year starter. Wilkins & Williams are a decent pair too. The CAA is littered with big-time LB's.

DB - Even. Seems to be what both teams would worry most about. UD lost all 4 starters and looked shaky against WCU. ODU lost their best DB to injury earlier this year & looked shaky against Hampton.

ST - Edge to ODU. ODU's punter is All-America candidate. UD isn't shabby but does rugby style so don't look for any/many returns. Kickers seem to be about even

Summation: ODU has been looking to this for 3 years now, welcome to the CAA. You are a welcome addition to the league & I expect to be a good team for years to come. ODU isn't green either, 4 senior starters on both sides of the ball. The Monarchs have been very successful playing their competition from start-up to now. While ODU is shooting for respectability and a few wins this campaign, UD is shooting for a return deep into the FCS playoffs. UD represents the best team that ODU has faced to date since beginning football. AP and Gradkowski, Allard, Nagle & McDowell represent forces on the offensive side of the ball. That's not good news for an ODU defense that routinely has let up gaudy numbers to any respectable competition. Add to it that the game is in Newark where the Hens rarely lose.

Delaware 41 - Old Dominion 21
I think you might be a little bit high on the final margin of victory (I think it'll be closer to 10-14) but other than that, I agree with most of what you posted.

With that said, let me correct you on some things.

We've won 3 national championships in womens basketball. We won a d-2 national championship in mens basketball. Our "nice field hockey run" is not nearly over.....we have the number 1 team in the country again this year.....we already beat number 1 unc at unc and beat defending national champ Maryland as well.

We've also been to the NCAA tourney in mens soccer 7 years in a row, are currently ranked 11th in the country and are undefeated. We've also won 2 caa tourney titles in a row in mens basketball and upset notre dame in the first round the year before and took national runner up butler to the wire in this years tourney.

We are not just bragging about sailing. And yes, while any rational odu fan should expect us to lose in our toughest road game to date, any UD fan that thinks we won't be beating Delaware on a fairly consistent basis in football within 5 years is just simply delusional or doesn't want to face the facts that odu is going to be a force in FCS.

Now I'm not saying we are going to dominate the series against you or anything, but we will be holding our own and winning games against you in about a 5 year time frame. If you honestly don't think so, you don't know much about football.

Aha. Gotcha. Stop right there SLL.
We have sold out Chowan, NCCU, Monmouth, Campbell, Hampton, Georgetown, Jax, Virginia Union, etc. You can't sell out a 3-0 Old Dominion opponent that will likely bring more than it's allotment? :ohno:
Shame on you. If football is your "flagship" sport, you would think that the fans would come watch Delaware play, regardless of opponent.

I agree with much of what you say. It is possible that ODU will be competitive with the Hens within 5 years. If ODU follows the blueprint laid out by the other successful CAA schools there is no reason that they won't be able to compete.

No skirts allowed - you ruffle the feathers of the big boys on the block - stand back. UD isn't like W&M that you played last year - it's a different attitude. Football is our flagship sport, has been our flagship sport, will be our flagship sport. Hoops is a distraction between the playoffs & spring practice. Friendly banter, hostile banter, it can all be the same, you're young, you'll get used to it.

Dude what the hell is UD's fans obsession with grown men wearing skirts? That's the fourth or fifth time a UD fan has mentioned wearing panties or skirts to grown men?

Maybe that's how guys get down in Delaware.....or maybe the women in your craphole of a state are so awful that even thinking about a guy in a skirt is more appealing than sleeping with them, but Jesus you are really starting to creep us out.

I'll make sure and tell our football team to keep their eyes out during a scrum for some UD players with a hardon since apparently that's how people from Delaware get down.

Kind of pathetic though if you ask me.

Most young Delaware alumni are too busy stalking the cast of the jersey shore and wishing they could hook up with the guys from the show (dressed in skirts of course) to pay attention to their football team.

Hence they need to empty the retirement homes in order to fill their stands.

Actually, we said it to you. We don't have an obsession with grown men in skirts, we just think you post like a girl.
