Lehigh-Lafayette is an insane rivalry so there's very few blowouts. All that matters is if you win, there are no style points.

Lafayette was a lot better than their record would indicate but at the end of the day they WERE 2-9. Assuming their young players mature into their rolls the Pards will be a very formidable foe. They could easily have largest W/L turn around in the country. Still, a Top 10 NDSU at home should win this game by 14-17 points. The 40-7/42-10 predictions on Bisonville are way off base imo.

Lehigh and probably Colgate would contend for the MVFC title this year. Holy Cross and Lafayette would be solid mid packers imo.
NDSU is not a top 10 team to begin with. SIU is the best team in the MVFC, at least according to some of their fans.

The blowouts in general if you poll a couple thousand fans, there will be a few dozen or so, that predict rediculous blowouts. I've seen other messageboards when NDSU was predicted on the other end of these blowouts and have won.

Thanks for checking in. Also thanks for the update, I believe I had Lafayette at 1-10. A double check confirms 2-9.

To hear UNI fans last season, after the defeat at home against Lehigh, you would have thought UNI gave them the game. There was little if no respect for them and the reasons for the victory generally boiled down to UNI didnt "show up" they "blew it". Two long passes is a lot, especially in a game that is otherwise equally matched or slightly in favor of the victor statistically.

Its pretty clear to me that the Leopards had a down year last year much like the 3-8 season at NDSU a couple yrs back. Long tradition, close games last season but a lot of losses.

I dont know what they are saying on BV but Im sure they are looking at the Robert Morris game thinking Lafayette will be a similar type team. Good game for the first half a deteriorating situation for Lafayette in the second.

They are getting respect here. I dont back off my comparison to Lafayette and UNI but I do admit it is based on a very thin body of data, one common opponent on consecutive weeks. Thing is both were very big games and to come off the win over the arch-rival and then travel to the UNI dome to hand them their walking papers is a pretty good achievement and a solid base to make the comparison. Lehigh was at their best and Lafayette stood up to them better than the Panthers.

I havent made my call yet, and wont in this thread. It is a preview after all. But Its good to hear from some folks a little closer to the Lafayette program than some of these fans that wear their blinders with pride.

I couldn't read this whole mess.

NDSU will probably beat Lafayette, but I think we will give them a close game. I will be surpised if we win, but equally surpised if we get crushed by 4 or 5 TD's.

I hope you were able to pick up on some of the high lites Franks Tanks.

4 touchdown would be something like 28-0 or 42-14. 5 TDs would be 35-0 or 42-7. Those are indeed lopsided scores.

A 42-14 game is less likely than a 28-0. The 'Pards kept it close last year. The loss margin was under 10 pts and the biggest loss was to harvard by 25, then Columbia by 14. They only lost to Princeton by 3.

They have a decent football team.

Wait. You've been trying to argue that ndsu has a strong OOC schedule this year, when you're playing a team that lost to Columbia by two scores? COLUMBIA!?

The strength of the NDSU OOC schedule is secondary to the nature of the games. These are bone-a-fide FCS opponents. They are playoff counters, they are financed at the FCS going rates (no discount games with under scheduling) and they offer the chance for both schools to compete on a level playing field.

If NDSU does win by 21 it would be an official rout. A margin of victory by 3 TDs or more is what it takes.

Lafayette beat Columbia 8 years in a row before last year. Columbia has the best QB in the Ivy League and he is a player. Columbia also beat Towson by 14 last year. It was not a good game for us, but not quite as bad as it looks.

NDSU is however playing a legitimate FCS team, and not Western State or Fort Lewis-- that is the point.

Now if that doesn't drive your point home, I don't know what will!

Towson is not a good team, but they are still a fully funded FCS team with 63 scholarships. Many FCS fans think an Ivy team can never complete with a CAA team, but in reality a middle of the pack Columbia can beat a fully funded, albeit poor, CAA team.

That was my point.

You'll never hear me say I'm glad that we play those teams, but I understand that it makes sense from a financial point of view (and the rest of our athletics depend heavily on football to bring home the bacon). That being said, Central Washington, despite being a supposed DII cupcake, would beat the snot out of Lafayette.

Ive never said there werent good reasons for down scheduling. My central point is the games should not be included in the FCS teams won/loss record because they dont count. They should be listed as exhibition. An exhibition game is just fine. Padding schedules and pretending the games count is self delusion.

The straw man argument that Central Washington could beat Lafayette is simply your opinion. It doesnt matter to the central point of not counting these exhibitions as real games.

Im glad Franks Tanks has chimed in. Its nice to hear from someone with first hand knowledge about Lafayette and East Coast FCS football. I know a lot of fans in Fargo are looking forward to this game. Lafayette is going to be a good test. Let the best team win and let the officiating be superb!

Central Washington is a good team, but that is impossible to say. Lafayette or a team Lafayette plays, hasn't faced off against a team that Central Washignton has played anytime recently (or ever).

This is not true. I looked up the Lehigh game thread and here are the exact quotes from UNI fans after the game.

Compare all of those responses after a playoff loss from UNI fans, to that of the responses of ndsu fans like you after your playoff loss, which was 50 pages of excuses, sour grapes, and blaming the refs.
