The closer I look at SFA, the better I feel about this matchup. Like previously stated, their offensive numbers are a bit inflated with the bottom of the bucket teams they've played (GPI:Northwestern State - 107, Nicholls State - 89, WIU - 84, Texas College - NAIA), same with their defensive rankings... they haven't really played anyone other than SMU(L 23-31), McNeese (W 16-13), and Texas State (L 7-28).

Unlike NAU, SFA is a mostly passing team with a very subpar running game. Their main RB Vincent Pervis averages only 12cpg and 68ypg, and the team only 137ypg on the ground, vs. 347ypg through the air. That makes them easier to defend than a team like NAU who has a top 10 RB in Alex Henderson, and top 10 QB in Michael Herrick (both ranked 6th nationally in FCS at their positions).

As for our defense... as bad as the NAU game was, it wasn't THAT bad. Flagstaff is at nearly 7,000 ft. in elevation... making it harder to breathe when you're running all over the field for 36 minutes (NAU ToP). After that kind of workout, going down to Nacogdoches, TX (302 ft) should be easy. Especially when we can focus more on the pass. In the end, our D got the job done when it counted on that final NAU drive. After a week of rest, I think they'll be fine.

Ummm...they have no rushing O to speak of (63rd). Remember 28-7? We shut down their pass attack (pass D ranked 97) when it counted. They can be stopped and held to minimal scoring. Moses is good, no doubt, but, he can be stopped.

That said, looking at the stats, how did EWU win their games? Enlighten me. I'm just putting up stats and know facts from our game and want to know. I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the ride that is the FCS playoffs.

SFA - 416 yds offense (265p/151r) 7 pts
TXST - 376 yds offense (324p/52r) 28 pts

Seems like the 2 INTs for the Bobcats were key in that game. (Well that, and SFA missing 2 FGs).

I have a feeling EWU will drive/score at will against SFA and their poor pass D. Taiwan Jones will be a threat that they can prepare for, but won't be able to stop from making a couple huge plays (he's had a 35+ yard play in every FCS game except against Weber, and long TDs of 96, 80, and 71 yards). But our "bend but don't break" zone pass D is horrible. Moses will definitely move the ball, but looking at his stats, the 14 INTs jump out. If we get a couple INTs or fumble recoveries, we'll be fine.

I don't know how UNH won most of their games... probably the same way we won ours... by outscoring the other team. UNH has let some pretty bad teams stick around.

Yep. That's usually the way it works. The team that scores the most points wins. :coffee: :coffee:

You know what I meant you jackass.

Teams also usually win when they hold the other team to fewer points. We don't. We just outscore them.

Thanks, I Like SFA Chances Aswell. We Have A High Powered offense and A Hell Of A Defense, EWU Defense gave Up Almost 800 yds To One Team. SMH, I think That Favors The Jacks Very Well. Should Be A good One Though!

No, not really. I did get a PM or something from one of their posters wanting to put money on my score prediction of EWU 45, SFA 31.

This should be a great game. Two great teams and the atmosphere at Homer Bryce Stadium shoul be electric for this one!

Both teams have great offenses, but when we played McNeese we were both top 5 offenses and the final was 16-13. That said, I'm going with the Jacks 21-17.

Looking forward to going to this game. I'm a Nac local, been going to the games since I was 8. It's been a long time since we've had a relevant team. Glad we didn't pull Montana, as we lost to them a few times back in the 90s when we won the SLC.

I'm unsure how the Jacks will do in this one, they were playing lights out earlier in the season, then layed an egg when the when to Texas St's homecoming game. Since then, they've been playing ok, but not necessarily as stong as they did after beating McNeese and Central Arkansas back to back (both in the top 10 at the time, Central Ark fell off at the end of the season, but their record doesn't reflect the talent of Central Arkansas, who should be in the running for the SLC title next season, now that they will be eligible for the playoffs).

The Nicholls St. game was really bad for SFA, and even though they pulled it out at the end, the way they couldn't stop the option was pretty shocking. They played really well vs. SE Lousiana, who were also having a surprise season. But, the last game against nortwestern st. wasn't pretty for the jacks either.

All that being said, the Jacks have protected home field all season long, so that's gotta count for something. Don't see the point in making a prediction for the game, as I'd be lying if I said I knew anything about Eastern Washington. I am impressed with how close they played Montana in that game, only losing by a touchdown. I am more familiar with Montana's team, and I don't know if I can realistically say the Jacks would be within a touchdown of Montana quite yet.

How long do you think it would take me to get to SFA from Terrell (Dallas)?

About 3 hours flat.

Take 80 to I-20, then I-20 to hwy 259.

I used to live in dallas, and I'd drive through Terrell all the time. It's all highway driving, not bad, pretty much 70mph the whole way.

Hope you can make it down.

Thanks. I'll be in Terrell for Thanksgiving so it will depend on whether I can get my wife to go along. Hopefully she'll be up for it.

Wow, that was such a nice, humble post I almost find it hard to root against the Jacks.

But I'm warning you, humility will get you nowhere among these jackals. ;)

Good luck on Saturday.

I don't know if it was on this thread or another thread where someone asked about tv spots or webcasts for this game,,,, I don't know about a tv spot, but I have been watching the jack's road games @ sfajacks.cstv.com. I did pay $20 at the beginning of the season, but I think the single game deal is somewhere aroudn $5. Maybe there is another spot where you can watch for free, the Southland Conference does 1 free webcast per week, but I don't know if SLC TV will be carrying the game, probably not....

oh, sorry.... I guess I'll work on that  But, somehow, even if the Jacks steamroll Eastern Washington, the jackals still won't stop, so I'd rather just be honest, not talk out of my ass and act like I know everything about an FCS team that's a couple thousand miles away.

Only thing I can tell from looking at things on paper is that both teams play the spread, don't always have consistent defenses (sfa has played good d at times, but I wouldn't call it a trademark of their's), and have both beaten quality teams. Should be a good game, good luck to the winner though. I'll be glad if the Jacks can make it through to face Montana, but I don't know if an SLC team has ever come within 2 touchdowns of Montana in the playoffs. Maybe not even 3 touchdowns.
