Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
The simplest solution would be to leave the schedule as is and count the Northeastern game as a win. It will just like this year...UNHWildCats wrote:The simple soloution (partially anyway) would be for UMass, Maine, Hofstra to play a 4th south game next season against (JMU, Delaware and Richmond) the teams Northeaster were to play and that those three north teams werent to play. For URI and UNH the only real simple soloution to keep a balanced CAA schedule might be to play twice... though im not sure if thats realistic.mcveyrl wrote:Would it be effective immediately?
Does anybody have any clue what that would do for the conference schedule? We'd have to get another conference game to give us eight games...

I left a comment asking his source cause I cant find it online anywhere and he said teammates called him. I must say I am very upset with Northeastern for this one. Sure they cudda used more backing from fans and such but the Athletics didnt help it with having the field be a good 15 minute drive from campus and it having stands MAYBE the size of a high school football stadium. They definately didnt invest enough in the football team to pull such a move. If anyone has any sources please let me know.

Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
http://www.boston.com/community/forums. ... stUnread=1I know it was probably a foregon conclusion, but parents of Northeastern Football players received an email about 7pm telling them the University will no longer field a football team, but scholarships would be honored and aid will be given to help underclassmen re-enter the recruiting arena.
Regardless of which side of the issue your are on, it feels like a kick to the stomach. God Bless the young men and the coaches that cared about the program.
http://www.dnronline.com/blogdetails.ph ... ID=5&back=A source at the school said 24 hours after the Huskies' season-ending 33-27 win over Rhode Island, the coaching staff was informed of the decision, which had been rumored for years. The source said the school planned to make the official announcement via a press release at midnight Sunday.

Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
This really does s*ck for Northeastern's players, fans and alums. I hate to see programs cut.......seems to be the unfortunate reality these days.
Will be interesting to see how this affects the other programs in New England and the CAA as a whole. I'm guessing that short-term, there will be an influx of players to Maine, UNH, UMass, and URI.

I'm guessing NU won't be the last school that cuts football in the next 90 days.

Re: Bad Rumors for Northeastern
This is really unfortunate. I find it sad that there are not really any college football programs that make money. There are a few in FBS, but between coaches' salaries, players' scholarships, traveling expenses, player guest tickets, stadium and field maintenance, and uniforms and other apparel, it's tough for a program to make any money. There are too many costs and not enough revenues being brought in.
