I still sort of wish Bryant held out for a PL bid. I think they have moved comfortably into the NEC and it will be a good home, but I think the PL would of really helped Bryant to continue to increase its academic profile.Franks Tanks wrote:VMI and/or Marist would be quality additions to the PLFresno St. Alum wrote:rumors are if the PL needs members it might offer Marist and or VMI an all sports spot.
What is the future of Patriot League football?

Marist would be a great pickup for the PL. I still don't understand why the PL didn't try and grab them as a football affiliate after the MAAC folded. Even if they didn't fully commit to the grant-in-aid model at the beginning, they probably wouldn't do any worse than Georegtown.

I think it may have been an all sports membership issue. Being a FB only member makes it much easier to pull out of the league, and we get more stability as an all sports member. If MArist would be willing to come over is everything I think the PL would be interested I believe.danefan wrote:Marist would be a great pickup for the PL. Bryant would have been a solid choice as well.

I am pretty sure that anyone who comes aboard will have to be for all sports.Franks Tanks wrote:I think it may have been an all sports membership issue. Despite what some have continued to hope for, I would bet my life that Villanova and/or Richmond will never be PL affiliate members for football.

Sorry I didn't explain myself well enough. I was thinking that it would have been smart to pick up Marist as a football affiliate in contemplation of them moving over as an all-sport member in the near future. Just seemed like a golden opportunity to grab onto Marist when they had a vulnerability that the PL could help with.Franks Tanks wrote:I think it may have been an all sports membership issue.
