Idaho State Football SID in running to win DHARMA van!
Re: Idaho State Football SID in running to win DHARMA van!
Danefan,
Congrats....you just made the argument I try to make all the time. I would tell Falkin that in all the improvements for the Big Sky he left out one....
UM's constant stadium upgrades,
MSU's new surface and renovation plan
NAU's video board & new surface
PSU's new surface, video board w/ribbon, additional seating ect,
Weber's new video board and 3 story pressbox
EWU's new pressbox, RED surface & video board, &
CSUS's new surface, & locker rooms.
ISU's new video board, new weight room, new locker room
Portland State's improvements had ZERO to do with them...all for and by PGE Park.
A hidden $20 per semester tuition increase for athletics? We ask for a slight increase every year to cover the rise in scholarships that happens when tuition goes up. You should know that in this era of the economy and transparency that trying to hide anything like that is a sure way for Presidents and higher up to be unemployed.
Many of the folks you mentioned helped with the locker room or are working on helping with other various projects (potential new practice surface, potential new turf, things of that nature).
I would say by the way we are getting our fair share of quality California players...just, like any school...we need to strive to always get better ones and never be satisfied.
As long as Falkin is polite with me, I'm happy to answer questions....who knows, maybe he will say hi to me in November at the season finale.

Your perspective and expertise in these kinds of areas is extremely welcome. You have a real opportunity here to help others understand the "why's" and "how's" by filling in gaps not only on ISU, or the BSC but what situations ANY school may be facing.

As I've said before, while I cannot get behind the City of Portland's quest for a major league soccer franchise at PGE Park (which I believe is short-sighted and misguided, but that is another thread), I have to admit that the improvements being made will benefit PSU football greatly. As long as the city is willing to let us "piggyback" along, I am OK with it.ISUSID wrote:Danefan,

Just bc PGE was upgraded for reasons other than PSU, PSU STILL BENEFITS GREATLY, this make PGE park a *MUCH* better fb venue the Holt Arena buddy boy.ISUSID wrote:I would tell Falkin that in all the improvements for the Big Sky he left out one...

+Upgraded seating
+25-30k capacity (they cant fill it, but only 5 fcs teams can reguardless)
+Nice field turf
+2 sideline & 1 endzone seating
+New led ribbon
+New video replay screen
+new restrooms & other fan related upgrades.
All the upgrades while still keeping PGE's signature 'downtown', 'open air' feel.
ISU has a long way.

OK, that still had ZERO to do with Portland State...that being said, these are great improvements.
If you can point to me anywhere where I said ISU didn't have a long way to go, please enlighten me. The issue with the facility arms race is that:
#1 You can never be done
#2 You should always have the next thing in mind
#3 You can never be done
What you have to give ISU is in one year they got a huge HD video replay board, a huge weight room that easily is the best one in the league (I've seen them all and it's not even remotely close right now, but again, that'll change too), a brand new locker room with oak lockers (and that project isn't totally done yet either).
There's still more on the table that we are working on. Just like at PSU...I guarantee you they are thrilled with PGE, but thinking of other facility improvements as well (Stott Center/FB locker upgrade for practice/things of that nature).
Look at Eastern...they get the new press area (too small in the media area by the way...huge misplay there), but now they are getting new turf. Granted, it's red, but it is in fact new (I'm a pure hater of it...my own personal opinion...I don't like BSU's field either in reality ...what most people forget is that until BSU started winning around seven years ago, they were known for a funny looking field and were a little bit of a joke. Now they win all the time and the field is cool...I think Eastern MUST win on a Montana level for about five years or so otherwise it won't be a cool red turf...it'll be that weird school in Washington with the red turf. If they do win at a Montana level though...it could be a brilliant move).
Anyways...all that to say I never said we didn't have a long way to go....for all the grief you heap on me...tell me you at least voted for the video Falkin...
Like I said, I don't shy away from much...

I'll give you that. Our main facility that is run by the city, PGE Park, is going to look really nice, even if it is because of the city's infatuation with major league soccer. Our main facility run on campus, the Stott Center, is still lagging behind even Big Sky standards and is something we need to address. It is terrible to have our basketball team work hard during the season to earn the right to host the conference tournament, then have to run to the city to see if we can rent Memorial Coliseum because the Stott Center is not big enough.

Re: Idaho State Football SID in running to win DHARMA van!
So you admit you're a hater. Imagine that.
1. Dont you worry about EWU's turf, you worry about that *HORRIBLE* scratchy surface ISU has. *Worst* in the Conf.
2. PGE's renovations have EVERYTHING to do with PSU bc PSU plays their home games there. Ipso facto.
3. EWU has one of the best BB courts in the Sky. ISU plays bb on their football field so pipe down.
4. All 9 have pretty good locker rooms. Especially EWU. Moot point. Idk why u brought it up. Again; moot point.
5. UM,MSU,PSU,NAU,EWU,&WSU are all gonna have replay boards.Great for ISU, but that should've come l8r IMO.
6. Remember you're only the SID for a reason. You're just the internet boy/sports geek, stay in your place.
7. Im not voting for an unathletic, know-it-all. If I were you, I'd spend less time trying to win prizes from a T.V. show, and more time learning about the school, helping the school, being more professional, and/or earning more money. Take my advice poindexter, chicks & *wives* don't dig Lost geeks. Be a man, hit the gym, focus on your work & family, & take heed to what ppl tell you. ISU Gridiron is going to suck untill that dome looks better.
Check the sig Poindexter.

In order....
1. Dont you worry about EWU's turf, you worry about that *HORRIBLE* scratchy surface ISU has. *Worst* in the Conf.
I've already agreed we need to change our turf and we are working on the logistics. Again, it's not totally within the control of athletics.
2. PGE's renovations have EVERYTHING to do with PSU bc PSU plays their home games there. Ipso facto.
No, they benefit from playing their home games there and paying for that privilege. That being said, I'm with JALMOND...it really doesn't matter how they are getting the stadium better, just that it is going to be better for PSU, which in my opinion is awesome.
3. EWU has one of the best BB courts in the Sky. ISU plays bb on their football field so pipe down.
Actually, most folks don't rate EWU's venue for hoops very high...Syracuse plays on a football field too, but I think most media folks I talk with LOVE Holt Arena. Fans too. If you are talking about the actual court court...like the playing surface ... I'm guessing ours is right up there, since it's a raised court. Would have to get a sampling of players from around the league though....
4. All 9 have pretty good locker rooms. Especially EWU. Moot point. Idk why u brought it up. Again; moot point.
As long as a team is happy with their locker room, that's all that really matters. Not sure how that's a moot point. I've honestly not seen the other teams' locker rooms in person.
5. UM,MSU,PSU,NAU,EWU,&WSU are all gonna have replay boards.Great for ISU, but that should've come l8r IMO.
Does Eastern have a replay board? I haven't heard anything definite about that...all I've heard is the turf. A little insight into fund raising...when someone comes to you and says "we would like to give X amount of dollars this this specific project", you don't go to them and try to change their mind, because that's how you piss off a contributor. That being said, we desperately needed something like a video board to improve the fan experience, and just on that alone it was worth it. Then tag in advertising, stats, other things you can do with a video board, and it filled a sorely needed gap.
6. Remember you're only the SID for a reason. You're just the internet boy/sports geek, stay in your place.
I'm the assistant athletic director, and I've been in athletic administration for 18 years. Referring to my and all my degrees and knowledge as an "internet boy/sports geek" is probably undercutting me just a little. Of course, I'm saying this to someone who doesn't use his real name either, so yeah....exactly.
7. Im not voting for an unathletic, know-it-all. I'm very athletic thank you very much....college scholarship athlete, and still active in hockey at age 40. I know a lot, but not all, but I have insight if you ever want it. In 40 years I actually have a chance to win a vehicle...I'll spend some time doing that, considering I worked something like 200 days in a row (OK...I just checked...I've worked 241 of the last 251 days going back to August 24th). I know plenty about the school, I'm extremely professional, I work out regularly, and if "ISU Gridiron sucks", it isn't because the dome doesn't look better, just like if Eastern Washington is the Big Sky champions this year, it isn't because of red turf.
Either way, I'm picking Montana first in my preseason poll ...
Up until that last post, this topic went from vote for me to something really interesting, so if you want to get it back on task, I'm still happy to throw any information out your way. Now, I'm not here for a pissing contest, so really, don't try to start one with me ... I'll answer any questions you have, but I wouldn't mind like a little smidgen of courtesy ... just sayin'
Lots of APR stuff tomorrow....joy oh joy.

Re: Idaho State Football SID in running to win DHARMA van!
PGE Park's renovation has everything to do with Merrill Paulson's love affair with major league soccer and the City of Portland's love affair with Merrill Paulson. Portland State is fortunate that we are not being treated the same as the AAA baseball team that has played at PGE Park since the 1920's. If the city and Paulson did not allow us to play in the newly renovated SOCCER stadium, we'd be looking at Hillsboro Stadium as the new permanent home for the Viking football team. You are most certainly welcome to see that stadium this year when we play EWU and then evaluate it against the other fine venues in the Big Sky.BlackFalkin wrote:PGE's renovations have EVERYTHING to do with PSU bc PSU plays their home games there. Great stuff, Frank. I enjoy hearing your insight from a perspective not usually present on message boards. Although you could be a little more honest about your jealousy; the red turf is gonna look pretty effin' sweet!

I'm not going to deny it'll probably be kinda cool....I just don't like it myself.

What might look cool on the red turf....is a blue DHARMA BUS!!!! Thanks gang, it's unofficial as they will announce the winner on Sunday at the LOST finale party at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, but I had a 108 vote lead when voting ended! Usually I feel lucky to win a large fry from McDonalds...

Good job Frank I hope ya get it.
One thing is sure though, even if you don't win the van you've got some friends here that appreciate the input.
BF you got your ass handed to ya by a guy that logic'd your ass to death in an EXTREMELY calm demeanor.
I am a big fan of Falkin though...dude gets some great conversations rolling.

Only way they'll allow you to take it on the field is if you're wanting to load up the ISU player's pride and bus it back to Pokey after the blowout.ISUSID wrote:What might look cool on the red turf....is a blue DHARMA BUS!!!!
