I'm sure most people wouldn't want to live there, but it would be one hell of a cool place to visit. Whether you like it or not.AZGrizFan wrote:All 12 that WANT to say that.Grizalltheway wrote:

You can get rid of Louisiana Tech and Fresno State for sure.FargoBison wrote:If the WAC wanted it could expand and be a very respectable research/academic conference and add some strong athletic programs to the mix as well...

NMSU $138,427,000 in research per NSF in 2008
Montana State 120,155,000
NDSU 115,513,000
Idaho 81,532,000
Montana 58,032,000
La Tech 19,406,000
West
UCD $642,519,000
Hawaii 271,835,000
USD 146,128,000
Nevada 102,073,000
SJSU 38,521,000
Fresno 7,967,000
Or it could go slumming
Sac State $4,386,000
Replace them with Cal Poly and Denver. Now it is even stronger academically.mainejeff wrote:You can get rid of Louisiana Tech and Fresno State for sure.FargoBison wrote:If the WAC wanted it could expand and be a very respectable research/academic conference and add some strong athletic programs to the mix as well...

Fortunately for NDSU, the research monies at said universities are the driving force behind the TV contracts.FargoBison wrote:If the WAC wanted it could expand and be a very respectable research/academic conference and add some strong athletic programs to the mix as well...

That is research $$$, which is something presidents value. That said, Fresno is definitely well supported in terms athletic budget and has a solid athletic history. If you are teacher college that makes it even more impressive.Fresno St. Alum wrote:I don't know or care what those #s are about but in athletic budgets Fresno was 27th or 28th in the country and cleared over 2 Million most just break even. endowment is $91.4 Million

It's from May 21stCatMom wrote:A few weeks back the WAC commish had a teleconference with some sports guy/show. He mentioned TXST as a team they have, at least, looked at/conferred with. I'll try to pull up the link to it from BCF.
I have no doubt presidents at research institutions value that, I just don't see how that will determine whether or not a school is invited to the WAC.FargoBison wrote:That is research $$$, which is something presidents value. 680 fans at men's basketball games also won't get you very far when it comes to TV.SDHornet wrote:Fortunately for NDSU, the research monies at said universities are the driving force behind the TV contracts.FargoBison wrote:If the WAC wanted it could expand and be a very respectable research/academic conference and add some strong athletic programs to the mix as well...

Technically you guys are the most ready right now. Even Montana needs to add 2 sports and reconsider a fee hike they turned down. We could be seeing you soon. Timing is everything.CatMom wrote:It's from May 21stCatMom wrote:A few weeks back the WAC commish had a teleconference with some sports guy/show. It won't .SJSU, Fresno St. are CSUs like CP and Sac St. Their votes would go to their sister schools. This aint the Big 10 or Pac 10. It's the Big West/Big Sky circa 2010SDHornet wrote:I have no doubt presidents at research institutions value that, I just don't see how that will determine whether or not a school is invited to the WAC.FargoBison wrote:

I agree. My questions is if La Tech leaves, would the current WAC members support this? Obviously if staying afloat is the priority then yes, but geographically speaking will the current member schools want to continue to travel that far east?Fresno St. Alum wrote:Technically you guys are the most ready right now. Keep in mind I have UCD in this conference scenario to get the Sac market. The entire point was to make it an elite group of research institutions, since the majority of WAC schools are research institutions.SDHornet wrote:And neither will the Fargo TV market.FargoBison wrote:680 fans at men's basketball games also won't get you very far when it comes to TV.
Yes! 7 members= not a conference, 8=WAC still a conference. They'd add Alaska-Fairbanks if they had tooSDHornet wrote:I agree. "the farm extension" would need an immediate stadium expansion to at least get its stadium to 16k capacity. True, they will bring some of the Sac TV market but how much of that market they bring will be the question. I'd love for both Sac State and "the farm extension" to get invited.FargoBison wrote:Keep in mind I have UCD in this conference scenario to get the Sac market. Fargo's TV market isn't great but NDSU brings the state plus part of MN.
