True.. talk won't get FU or UD 'back'.. they will both have to do it on the field.

ps.. as for the 2-0.. congrats.. as one of FU's best teams ever beat an average UD squad and the 'worst' UD team in modern history.. lost a close one at Furman. It was a wise decision to quit while you are ahead.. :kisswink:
Dang, I am not good at geography, Is Delaware located close to Statesboro :? :kisswink:
See, just one more casualty of you guys "furmaning" us last year when chasing the money Missouri was offering - you didn't get to see where Delaware was. Man, missed opportunities.

So would another Furman playoff appearance but that too, sadly, does not appear to be coming anytime soon.

Yes but the odds for the 3-0 were much greater. On the other hand, if we (and you) ever make it back in the playoffs at the same time, I have a feeling we will get to see Newark. The NCAA seems to have a way of picking games that should have been played.

Yes, the SOCON could send 4 teams... :coffee:
Not a snowballs chance in hell the CAA could send 6. HIGHLY unlikely for both the CAA to send 5, or the So-Con to send 4. No team has ever sent half its conference. Statistically, the CAA getting 4 of 10 would be about the same as getting 5 of 12.

There will be at least one 7-4 team in the playoffs with perhaps three 7-4 teams making it.

The CAA with only 10 teams this year will not get more than 4 bids. The SoCon, Big Sky, and MVC will each get 3, while the Southland gets 2.

Agreed. Was just about the post the same thing. In other words the most like scenario for the 10 At Large are:
3 CAA
2 So-Con
2 MVFC
2 BS
1 Southland

Given their conferences poor playoff history in the past 6+ years, the only way I see an OVC, Patriot or MEAC getting an at large is at 9-2 (with at least 8 Div I wins) (and even thats no guarantee, Colgate didn't get an at large at 9-2 this past season). Any team going 9-2 or better out of those conferences is highly likely to be the AQ though.

No way in hell the NEC or Big South get an At Large in their 1st year of playoff play.

I couldn't agree more. I think a OVC, MEAC or Patriot at-large would have to have 9 D-I wins.

The CAA will get 4 in the playoffs in 2010;
Nova,
Maine,
UNH,
W&M

UD will reach 7 - 4, but one of those W's will be against WCU, keeping them out of the playoffs again.

I think it will be Nova, JMU and UD, and Maine, but who gives what you or I or anyone else thinks. Preseason predictions are like toilet paper- full of sh*t.

I highly doubt that 4 teams will make it in from the SOCON or any conference this year (maybe the CAA but thats because they just have to many teams to begin with). I thought the whole reason for the expansion of playoffs was to get other teams from other conferences into the playoffs such as the Great West, Ohio Valley ect. If it happens and those teams deserve to be there then i wont have an issue with it, i just think that it would be better if they tried to make it more widespread :twocents:

I have a tough time seeing JMU getting past 6 - 5, and 4 - 4 in conference. Not exactly playoff making #'s. But good luck.

I thought Chatty excluded themselves this year due to APR, or maybe I misread it.

They are eligible for the playoffs. Can't remember the wording of their penalty. It was confusing, but they can participate.

UTC was ineligible last year and was still in the ineligible zone this year, but got a waiver because they were REALLY bad academically when Huesman took over and improved leaps and bounds.

We just need the ankle-biters to lose GSU and not lose to Chatty. :)

Also, I've said many times before that SoCon teams have been left out that are every bit as good as some CAA teams that manage to get in. Even if Wofford loses the last 2 and gets eliminated I don't think anyone will be able to say that is not the case this time.

Good bump. I was noticing the same thing. SOCON is probably the best conference this year.

Thanks!

No real surprises, though. Even with their 'indiscretions' last Spring it was easy to see The Vermin as a young, talented bunch with a great upside; so no surprises for me with their win yesterday. Folks knew GSSU and Waffle would be loaded with Appalachian young, but talented.

I think 'best conference' should be reserved until the third round. Hopefully it will be a banner year AND things will play out to favor 4 SoCon teams making the playoffs with each making strong runs.

And, it's possible that the 'Big 4' each at 6-2 may claim a share of the title this year.

With a four way tie, would it be possible that a SoCon champion would be left out? FU would get the autobid. GSU and ASU would get bids for history and reputation. Would the committee have the nerve to woof Wofford again?

No way! (crossing fingers)

Georgia Southern - 6-2 (9-2)
Wofford - 6-2 (8-3)
Furman - 6-2 (7-4)
Appalachian State - 6-2 (8-3)

The Vermin (theoretically) would be going head-to-head with as many as 6 other 7-4 teams entering the playoffs (not counting ODU at 8-3 with their SoS!); and with UFla they essentially are 7-3 with wins over 2 Top10 FCS.

Any SoCon at 8-3 should be good. Wofford is as close to a 'lock' as anyone at 8-3 (considering you beat Clempson  ).

Here's the SoCon title scenarios. This is all assuming Furman beats Elon, ASU beats Western and ASU beats Elon.

GSU beats Wofford - GSU wins title outright.
Wofford beats GSU and UTC - Wofford wins title outright.
Wofford beats GSU, loses to UTC - Four-way tie for title between ASU, WC, GSU, FU. Furman wins autobid.

It is very unlikely that GSU would bounce back from a loss at Wofford and then beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. GSU would more likely be 8-3. Of course, we beat the team that beat Michigan. Maybe we could beat the team that beat Alabama.
