Re: Playoff teams proximity to Chatty and Frisco
So bias makes you assume the championship game should be where the teams have qualified from? You guys have blinders on when it comes to that aspect, which should not be a consideration when establishing a venue for a subdivision as a whole. Fortunately, it seems, the committee understood this when they made the decision.
Hey, go tell the FBS to move the BCS title game to Texas or Alabama or, hell, Idaho or Oregon...to accommodate the teams that qualify for their (fake) championship. That's my example. As much as I hate them, UT doesn't bitch when they make it to that game and always have to go cross country (travel/fly) to be there.
This is a showcase for the FCS, not the CAA. Personally, I just want it to be that...a showcase. I don't care where it is...as long as it is! Seems a lot care more about where it is, rather than why it is.

Good. Neutral field in a neutral area (for the most part) is best.

We can agree on this. We are all anxiously awaiting to see how Frisco showcases. I certainly hope the locals embrace it in Frisco.CatMom wrote:This is a showcase for the FCS, not the CAA. Don't think we can compare a team like Texas or Alabama who have budgets of a few (million) dollars more than FCS teams and much larger fan bases all across the country. FCS fan bases are mostly regional, as you well know.

BTW, can we STOP with the Vegas talk? We've had that conversation ad infinitum and it's not gonna happen.

This is really a SoCon gripe - they've been host to the NC game for going on two decades, so I'm sure they're miffed about having to actually get hotel rooms and a flight. Heck, half of the CAA had to fly to Chatty anyway, so it's not really a big deal for us. I flew to Chatty, and I'll fly to Frisco - no biggie for me.

That's the gripe GF. The half that drove, will not go to Frisco, so you just cut attendance by 50%.GannonFan wrote:Heck, half of the CAA had to fly to Chatty anyway, so it's not really a big deal for us. I flew to Chatty, and I'll fly to Frisco - no biggie for me.

Re: Playoff teams proximity to Chatty and Frisco
You are probably correct as Chatty almost becomes a home game for ASU as it would for GaSo. That said, based on the number of App fans that traveled to UMich, LSU, and UF this past weekend I would think that App would bring a minimum of 4-5K fans and might actually bring more. I know the group I hang with live in ATL, SC and the Charlotte area and there are plenty of inexpensive flights from ATL or CLT to Dallas. Most of our group will make the trip if the Apps make it and I expect that is true for many of us diehard Apps.GannonFan wrote:This is really a SoCon gripe - they've been host to the NC game for going on two decades, so I'm sure they're miffed about having to actually get hotel rooms and a flight. Not that Richmond is part of the conversation, but we had 4-5k fans at Chattanooga and I would guess that we'd only travel 2500-3000 or so to Frisco.
Delaware would probably send, what, 8000-9000 to Chattanooga (sans a boneheaded Edgar Johnson decision)? No way that many are flying to Frisco.
App State- 15-20k in Chattanooga ... what 6-7k to Frisco?

Re: Playoff teams proximity to Chatty and Frisco
If you look at the numbers, only the 3 bolded teams bring significant fans anyway, so what difference does it make? Granted, this year there are a lot of "unknowns" in the field (SEMO, CCU, Bethune Cookman, Robert Morris, etc.,) but years past have proven that unless it's Montana/ASU/GSU or Delaware, the # of fans there who LIVE there outnumber the fans of the participating teams by about 10-1.Skjellyfetti wrote:I worked this out for a thread on AGS so I thought I'd post it here for some discussion.
I was bored waiting for the App playoff special coming on in a bit so I went through the playoff bracket and counted how many teams were in "driving distance" of Chattanooga and Frisco. I used 12 hours on google maps to determine "driving distance"... which is kinda arbitrary, so I could use a different number if a lot of people think it's too short or too long.
Playoff teams within driving distance to Chattanooga:
Appalachian State
Coastal Carolina
Western Illinois
SFA
Villanova
SE Missouri State
Robert Morris
Delaware
Lehigh
Bethune Cookman
Jacksonville State
Wofford
William and Mary
Georgia Southern
South Carolina State
Playoff teams within driving distance of Frisco, TX:
SFA
SE Missouri State
15 of the 20 playoff teams are within a 12 hour drive of Chattanooga, TN.
2 of the 20 playoff teams are within a 12 hour drive of Frisco, TX
Both of the teams within a 12 hour drive from Frisco are within a 12 hour drive of Chattanooga.

I would argue that UNI would bring a large number of fans to either Chatty or Frisco...assuming we get there ever.

Had we played anyone but ASU we likely would have had more fans than the other team

That was also the lowest attended game in Chatty, a few hundred less than Montana and "local" Furman the year before.

If you add Youngstown to the mix, the last time UM/ASU/GSU/UD/YSU wasn't in the finals other than 2002 was 1987.PenthouseClosedEnd wrote:When was the last time that none of those 4 made it?AZGrizFan wrote:but years past have proven that unless it's Montana/ASU/GSU or Delaware, the # of fans there who LIVE there outnumber the fans of the participating teams by about 10-1.
