On the whole, Keeler & Tubby before him have done terrific jobs screening kids who fit the school's profile & the FB program's needs. We've had a few flops to be sure but many more success stories. :thumb:
Sorry henfan, wasnt trying to manage expectations for you, just offering my perspective on how I look at FBS transfers

I believe he still has eligibility, so maybe Liberty can pick him up and you can experience the Schoenhoft experience first-hand...

Of course, by that same logic I still have eligibility...

No, you are not. The aforementioned player shall never be mentioned again on this forum.

So let it be written...

Here goes...

-6'5" 220 lb pro-style QB out of St. Xavier in Cincy, OH (a terrific program)
-4 star rating by Rivals, as the number 6 QB in the class of 2005 (behind Mark Sanchez, but ahead of Colt McCoy incidentally), and the 8th best player in the state
-chooses Ohio State over Florida, Michigan, Michigan State & Notre Dame
-hardly sees the field at TOSU and with Terrelle Pryor coming in, and with Joe Flacco's success, decides to transfer to UD....many have questioned if we even watched game tape on him. 2 years of eligibility remaining.
-wins the starting job at UD in 2008, though not decisively over inexperienced QB alternatives at UD
-has a very unimpressive arm and unusual sidearmed throwing motion, to which UD trainers come up with the brilliant idea that they can improve his throwing motion with a very unusually athletic 'tape job'
-UD has one of the worst offensive lines in the history of football
-Schoehoft starts the first 7 games for the Blue Hens throwing 13 picks and 7 TDs, averaging 140 yards passing per game, prior to injury
-Delaware goes on to their worst record in like the last 50+ years, with performances including a no quarterback offense against JMU.
-At the end of the season Schoenhoft decides to pursue other interests at Dayton, leaving 1 year of eligibility remaining

Moral of the story is, he was incredibly highly touted, for many reasons it didn't work out, and UD fans have come to prefer to see the proof in the pudding before celebrating transfers very much.

I just did a quick check on some of the notable transfers during the KC era.. I'm sure I missed a few.. but KC's success with transfers has been excellent.. I only wish he was nearly as successful with his HS recruits.

Very successful..

Shawn Johnson DE
Pat Devlin QB
Andy Hall QB
Joe Flacco QB
David Boler WR
Rob Agnone TE
Ben Patrick TE
Ron Talley DE

Successful..

Sonny Ricco QB
Rob Bergman OT
Garron Bible DB
Keith Burnell RB
Joe Bleymaire WR
Ryan McDermond LB
Brad Shusman PK
Jonathan Smith RB
Gino Gradkowski OL

Disappointing..

Joel Holler OL
Richard Stoury OL
Saul Freund OL
Jerry Butler RB
Rob Schoehoft QB

as you can see the success rate has been better than excellent. Hopefully Curry will be another fine addition.

That would make 8 for JMU then, as there is a 3rd string LB from Lakawanna CC.

PG years such as those done at FUMA (Fork Union) and Hargrave Military Academies don't count as transfers by the NCAA since they don't count against eligibility. JMU has 3 of those, including 1-2 starters.

I was more referring to BDKJMU since he mentioned single digits as being a pre-req, and at least on the current roster for JMU I count 10 transfers inclusive of 4 year schools, community/junior college & post-graduate militaries like FUMA & Hargrave.
Prep school PG is different than JUCO/CC. They aren't considered transfers by the NCAA, as there is no elgibility used by PGing a yr at a Prep/Military school.

Interesting BDK. What's the justification for the distinction in the eyes of the NCAA?

I think (and I know Im not BDK) the reason it doesnt count toward your years of eligibility State Line (and this coming from someone who was at a military school for a year prior to going to college) is that the Military/Prep Schools are seen as an extension of high school and not of college and therefore would not count as a year of eligibility toward your five years at the college level

You sir are correct. A season playing at a JUCO/CC takes away one of 4 seasons of eligibility (It can't be counted as a redshirt as far as I know).

A season playing as a PG at either a Prep or military school doesn't take away from one of the 4 years of eligibility. Thats why you see so many non qualifiers out of HS going to places like FUMA and Hargrave. I believe those PG players have to re-sign LOIs, and therefore can choose a different school than the one they originally signed with (if they did sign with one) as a HS senior.
