Re: Big South Predictions
With almost all posters placing G-Dubb at 4th or 5th and even as low as 6th, expectations are extremely low for our Running Bulldogs. That sets the table for nothing but upside for our team going into the season. We should be the underdog in almost every game along with a nice sized chip on our shoulders and a strategic advantage of new schemes on both sides of the ball courtesy of our new coaching staff. While not personally agitated by the low pre-season rankings, it comes as a bit of a surprise.
In an injury plagued 2010 season where Pre-Season Def POY Marty Patterson missed the entire season, 2009 Def Freshman of the Year Matt Goods missed the season, several other Def starters missed multiple games and with numerous injuries on the Off side of the ball resulting in missed games at QB, RB, OL and WR G-Dubb was competitive in all but 2 late season games against Liberty and Stony Brook when those same injuries were at their peak. A close OT loss to Conference Champion CCU and Presbyterian and CAA member ODU were each lost quality opportunities to add wins. Add in breaking in two new inexperienced QB's and the W-L record while disappointing in retrospect was not surprising.
So in a few weeks we kick off the 2011 season and I'll go ahead and predict that the Running Bulldogs will have a winning record overall and in conference. With home games against the predicted top two teams of Liberty and Stony Brook, who knows what else may happen. But for now, we'll gladly just keep flying under everyone's radar.
New head coach Dickerson by the way hails from the SEC, huddled up with Joe Montana and Marcus Allen while playing for the KC Chiefs and has current Indy Colts HC Jim Caldwell in the family coaching tree. Do you think he might know a bit about winning, how to win, how to coach? Chances are pretty good IMO. I think our Dogs might just surprise.
