Elite teams fine a way to beat every team in their conference at least once a decade, maybe more. Now turn your head and cough some more.

Are UD fans really trying to claim 6 national championships at this level? The Boardwalk Bowl does not equal a 1-AA/FCS championship.

I have noticed this for a long time, as a Delaware resident. Although I should have nothing to say since I go to Coastal, but only acknowledge the Championships you won at your current level of play when comparing schools. A state JV Championship doesn't carry as much weight as a Varsity one. Yes their both impressive, but one is a lot harder to win than the other one.

I don't think they are an elite program right now but they're elite overall in the history of the subdivision.

Nobody can shake a stick at what Georgia Southern's done; with 6 national championships ranging in years from 1985 through 2001 with three different head coaches at the helm. And now it looks like they may be back in the hunt.

6 National championships at the level one down from the highest level in football (well, 5 clear ones and one asterisk one). Doesn't matter if you call it Small College, the old, pre-'78 DII, I-AA, or FCS, UD's always been at the level one step down from the highest level. Can't really argue with that, only the name's changed. :thumb:

You can put an asterisk by 1963 as well since you shared it with UNI.

Hard to be elite when you have made the postseason just once in the past decade.

Yes - although in light of recent events we may need to re-look that 1997 semi-final game. ;)

Clearly YSU is an elite program. It is one of the largest programs in the nation. They are slightly behind NDSU but still the second largest program in the MVFC. Some people have cast doubt on the attendance figures posted by YSU. In many cases these are the same fans that will poo-poo any other doubt about any other phase of the game including the officiating. They simply are disingenuous.

Secondly they have a proud tradition. whether its yesterday or last year, success is always measured by looking to the past. Future success is pure speculation.

lastly, YSU has a commitment to the game. They are often mentioned when it comes to FBS move up talk. They fund their program and obviously take pride in it and what it can do for YSU as a whole.

YSU is an elite program.

There's a LOT of hate in this thread for a team that won 3 games last year.

Ask the UNI, NDSU, WIU, and ILSU fans if we played as bad as a 3 win team?

YSU led in every game last year, led 7 times in the 4th quarter, and unfortunately blew 4th quarter leads with under 2:00 left to UNI, NDSU, WIU, and ILSU.

And our facilities will get us back to elite status under Coach Wolford. The guy is a no-nonsense guy. He admits to making some ridiculous remarks last year which he apologized for. He has come a long way in a year. He is more personable with the media and comes across as less intense in public like he used to.

Replace YSU with Western Kentucky or Marshall, and see the absurdity of you statement above. Caution, that would require an IQ above a working refrigerator's internal temp.

Army also had an elite FB program once. They won three national champships in 1944, 1945, 1946.

You might ask Bill Parcels what he thinks of that statement. So you don't have to look it up - "You are what your record says you are."

And UNI started 16 or so new players last year too. Elite programs dont need to start that many freshman, or rely on fbs rejects to fill their roster
