I beleive the fact that this is the opening game for both teams is an advantage to Delaware.
the Triple Option requires a lot of ball movement and timing - opportunities for Navy to put the ball on the ground, which they more often do early in the season.
Couple that with Delaware's defense recently preparing for GSU in the playoffs and I can smell upset. Navy will be favored for sure, but UD has a better chance than most think here.

I'll stick with our veteran and stout o-line against navy's lousy front 7 anytime. I am just a poor guy from Delaware living in Tennessee, so I will have to stand by my pick 38-22. And if I end up eating crow(or in this case chicken) I will do so right here.

You guys are crazy Navy beat Notre Dame at South Bend last year and put up 76 points at East Carolina. Delaware is going to get run over by the option.

I'm of two minds about this.

Many think that the Triple Option or any form of it (Oregon Veer, Wishbone, Delaware Wing-T, etc.) is out of date and therefore liable to get stuffed by ANY "modern" defense. But if one sees it once in a year or once every several years, having it on the schedule poses a problem because of the responsibilities a member of the defense has to remember. That's why 'Bone offenses at Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas ran roughshod over people for decades. This is especially true if an option team gets quarterbacks and halfbacks with any sort of speed. This is similar to what one sometimes still sees at the HS level when old farts still mess around with the Single Wing or any of its variants (Double Wing, Notre Dame Box, etc.)

This game is going to come down to execution, pure and simple. I say Navy wins, but it's not going to be anywhere near the blowout some think. Delaware will be aware of the option to the point of being on the cusp of a win.

You could just admit it's because of the suggestively anti-Tebow comment I made in another thread.

The good news is that if we do need a new QB, we can at least mark Citadel's 109th ranked FCS offense off the list of potential locations for a transfer at the position. :thumb:

Then again, we could consider scowering the ranks of the untested 30 or 40 bull-dykes that decide to wear military uniforms down there. Who knows, there could be some quality broad shouldered talent with a decent arm.

Not that it is going to impact the 2011 version of Navy/UD but in 2007 UD beat Navy and Navy went on to beat Notre Dame in South Bend.

Navy without Dobbs just isn't the same team it was last season. This will be a ground game only, so it will be close either way.

Either Navy wins in a low scoring match, or Delaware does? This one is a toss up, especially being the first game of the season with nothing to go on yet.

On December 12, 1775 the Continental Congress created a Battalion of minuteman from the three counties in Delaware. Kent county militia were fans and owners of Game Cocks; Fight'n Blue Hens as they were called. The Fight'n Blue Hens became known far and wide as the very best Fighting Game Cocks around. Thus, the Blue Hen was established.

How do you know? Their next QB might be even better...

I'm not that opitmistic relative to the Hen's chances this week at Navy. On offense the Hen's QB situation really concerns me. The job was Sasek's to take.. but he apparently hasn't been able to do so. That wouldn't be so troubling if the reason was that one of the other Hen QBs really stepped up and peformed better than expected.. but that has not been the case. Apparently none of the QB contenders has really looked good so far this preseason. I know UD fans expect/hope that the Hens will be able to establish a strong running game vs Navy.. but regardless I don't expect that UD will be able to score enough points to beat Navy unless they are able to have some real success in the passing game.

On defense I worry about UD's all new DBs.. safeties in particular. Their ability to read and tackle vs the Navy Triple option will be critical. Last year the Hens had success defending the GSU option.. but much of that was due to outstanding play by their DBs. This year's UD defense will be sporting an entirely new defensive backfield and there have to be questions as to how they will respond in their first game and vs a very difficult offense. Maybe they will play well.. but maybe they won't.

First game of the year.. question marks for both teams.. anything can happen.. but I will be surprised if UD can pull out a win in Annapolis.

This game is a good ol' fashioned ball-control run-it-down-their-throats throwback game - both teams have experienced lines, good RBs, new QBs, and average at best defenses. Turnovers, special teams, and field position will decide this game...

I think you'll find that, barring injuries, this will be one of the better UD defenses. Not that you can judge a defense entirely by how well they defend the TO in their first game, but we have a fast, sizable, talented group of defenders that by the end of the season I think will rank up there with some of our best.

probably already mentioned but this game is on CBS College Sports network...I get that channel down here in Sarasota Florida so I might make an effort to watch this game before the Campbell game kicks off.
