Re: New #1 team in the Nation
Montana is slowly moving up in the polls, should be a great game with MSU this year.
Re: New #1 team in the Nation
I get it.... these polls are mostly beauty contests, partly influenced by those that crow the loudest. Hence, we will likely see NDSU on top. This may be true; however, in comparison to some other top teams, there may not be as much separation as you would expect when stacked up against the #1 team in the land.
For instance, take Maine, they've played a tougher schedule (Sagarin), played against teams with a better composite win-loss record (0.47 vs. 0.37) and played more games on the road (5 vs. 3) versus better opponents (NDSU roadies have just 7 wins; avg. 2.3; Maine roadies have 18 wins; avg 3.6).
Yet, everything is distilled into this: NDSU beat a lousy Minnie team in what many Bison fans called a home game. Maine lost by 6 at a midlin Pitt. Pffft.. it's a beauty contest and Bison fans (like Jabber and Lakes) are treating it as such.

Yes lakes, JBB and the NDSU fanbase is influencing how FCS coaches and media members are voting. Give me an fing break. If NDSU is #1, it will because in those people's eyes NDSU is right now the best team in the FCS.biobengal wrote:I get it.... these polls are mostly beauty contests, partly influenced by those that crow the loudest. That said I'm just happy we crown the #1 team the right way....so polls don't have much meaning in the grand scheme of things.
Oh and Lakes you're an idiot, we didn't deserve to be considered as an elite team until we played and beat UNI. Stop saying we beat EWU, we lost and it was our own damn fault for not putting them away. Looks like the team has learned from that and has a much better killer instinct.

Well I doubt 90% of the voters have ever even seen MSU or NDSU do they are voting off of a faulty premiss to begin with. In FBS the game are televised nationally and people get a better idea.

While i agree with what i underlined, I also think people rememeber last years playoff game when NDSU dismantled MSU in the 4th quarter. I don't like taking past years into consideration, but I would bet that it does for a lot of people.Northcoast wrote:Well I doubt 90% of the voters have ever even seen MSU or NDSU do they are voting off of a faulty premiss to begin with. Sagarin has Montana State SOS at 168 and NDSU at 171.biobengal wrote:I get it.... these polls are mostly beauty contests, partly influenced by those that crow the loudest. They're 5th in their division but 10th of 12 in the Big 10/12 (in conference) and their overall record puts them 11th of the 12 teams.SuperHornet wrote:A win over a 5th-place Big 10 is patently better than a win over a dead-last WAC team....SeattleGriz wrote:

Don't get on my case about the FBS wins, though. I'm just making a case for SAM as also being undefeated...without the use of previous years records to use as a reason to exclude them from consideration.
For the record...New Mexico is a MWC team. New Mexico State is the WAC team (who also beat MN)
SAM played New Mexico, not NMSU.

Re: New #1 team in the Nation
SHSU's problem is the SLC is pretty average this year and New Mexico is by far the worst team in the FBS. They are doing all they can by beating the teams on their schedule but in my poll I still have NDSU, Montana State and Maine in front of them.
Good thing we have the playoffs....otherwise SHSU might have ended up like Boise State.

Re: New #1 team in the Nation
Without a doubt NDSU is #1, and with their remaining schedule should coast into the playoffs #1. Montana State is #2 and also should remain heading into the post season, barring an upset at cat/griz but i think the griz will find out they've bitten off more than they can chew.

I know the SLC is not a top power conference but I can't remember the last time an SLC team has been undefeated in week 8/9 by virtue of having beaten an FBS team. (it could just be an age thing, though). Crappy or not, it was still an FBS team.

You'd think I'd get the conference right. NMSU was in the Big West when I was there, but UNM made a bowl game when one of my teammates transferred there after our school unrighteously disbanded the football team. I'm STILL angry about that.

Fact MSU gave up 4 turnovers and was ahead in the 4th quarter. It wasn't as lopsided as you think. We are much better than last year so you better hope you are too. BTW the only one curb stopped last year was that dude that got into a fight with Trumain Johnson of the griz. But that got covered up nicely.
