Re: Playoff Field
Indiana State has the toughest path to 7 wins in my eyes. SIU finally put it together this weekend in a big win over EIU. I think SIU has a great shot at knocking off INSU, who did not look good today vs. MSU.
And I am going to respectfully disagree ISUMatt. For one, I don't see ILSU beating UNI, although I would love to see it since I am not a fan of UNI. Furthermore, YSU's wins would be over #15 ILSU and on the road in Fargo over #1 NDSU. We'd have two ranked losses of 2 to INSU and 4 to UNI.
Remember, the committee often selects the teams that are the hottest to end the season. If YSU wins next week, we'd have won 5 of 6 to close the season.
That's why I think ILSU and YSU have the stronger resume's over INSU.

Why do people think Central Arkansas is a lock?
Since when has an SLC 7 win team been a lock over a 7 win team from the MVFC or CAA?

Re: Playoff Field
As a Towson University fan, I'm shocked, awed and floating at about 35,000 feet to get into the playoffs. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about how NDSU's loss may cause a very different top five than people expect. I think NDSU's loss does affect the top five seedings. If NDSU loses next week (highly improbable, but possible), I see them as low as a Three seed with how late their losses came in the season.
If they beat Rhode Island next week (Doable, but tough as any game in the CAA), I think there's an outside chance Towson gets a four or five seed. Am I totally off my rocker on this? I think the most interesting thing will be to see how far NDSU falls in the polls on Monday because that does affect seeding in the playoffs.

We'll see. I've seen Albany play 3 bad halves of football this year and a lot of really good halves.nerfootball wrote:I can easily see University of albany winning there first game with the numbers they have put up this year
We certainly have the explosiveness on offense to score in the playoffs. I don't know whether our defense and in particular our pass defense will hold though.
Still need to win next week!
Re: Playoff Field
I think Central Arkansas plays in a pretty good confernece and they have seven wins in Division one. Only one CAA bubble team (UNH) has that requirement at the moment. That is why a seven win SLC team may be a lock for the FCS field. If they had beaten Sam Houston State or Louisiana Tech, they would be locked in.danefan wrote:Why do people think Central Arkansas is a lock?

Re: Playoff Field
No because Towson has a very good chance of winning the CAA outright with a win over Rhode Island next week. I think that alone deserves a seeding. Also with Towson's offensive performance against UNH I can't see the game against Rhode Island even being close.tstidm1 wrote:Am I totally off my rocker on this?

YSU has picked up 2 verbal commitments this morning from that win on the road at #1 NDSU. Paying dividends already!

Re: Playoff Field
But the season isn't over. There are a number of MVFC and CAA teams that could have 7 DI wins with resumes equal to or better than UCA after next saturday. Getting to 7 wins first means absolutely nothing.tstidm1 wrote:I think Central Arkansas plays in a pretty good confernece and they have seven wins in Division one. Re: Playoff Field
So we're not even going to mention a potentially 7-4, top 15 team, that rolled Towson and ODU, and that eats MVFC teams for lunch in the playoffs...
...in favor of a bunch of mediocre MVFC teams and UCA.
Whatever floats your boat I guess.

You can thank West Chester for that though.93henfan wrote:So we're not even going to mention a potentially 7-4, top 15 team, that rolled Towson and ODU, and that eats MVFC teams for lunch in the playoffs...

Again, 7 D-I wins is not a requirement for the playoffs. A suggestion, not a requirement.danefan wrote:You can thank West Chester for that though.93henfan wrote:So we're not even going to mention a potentially 7-4, top 15 team, that rolled Towson and ODU, and that eats MVFC teams for lunch in the playoffs...

Well I'd say it's a little more than a mere suggestion.93henfan wrote:Again, 7 D-I wins is not a requirement for the playoffs. A suggestion, not a requirement.danefan wrote:

But certainly not a hard and fast rule either.

Re: Playoff Field
7 D1 wins is a requirement. IF in the crazy scenario you win the conference at 6 wins, that supersedes the 7 win requirement. In your case, that is not going to happen, hence the reason you aren't going to make the playoffs.93henfan wrote:Again, 7 D-I wins is not a requirement for the playoffs. Re: Playoff Field
I fully realize our chances are next to nil, but maybe someone on the committee will have the good sense to actually pick the best teams to fill the at-large field. Wouldn't that be a novel concept?danefan wrote:Well I'd say it's a little more than a mere suggestion.93henfan wrote:

No, 7 D-I wins is not a requirement. It has been customary, but it's not a mandate in the selection criteria. Surely you can read.guinzone wrote:7 D1 wins is a requirement. Don't lose to Rhody if you want to make the playoffs. Pretty novel concept, I know.93henfan wrote:I fully realize our chances are next to nil, but maybe someone on the committee will have the good sense to actually pick the best teams to fill the at-large field. +1 and it was a very unimpressive performance against West Chester if I remember correctly.danefan wrote:You can thank West Chester for that though.93henfan wrote:So we're not even going to mention a potentially 7-4, top 15 team, that rolled Towson and ODU, and that eats MVFC teams for lunch in the playoffs...

Re: Playoff Field
Here's a though UD fans, you aren't going to make it. It is that simple.
Now for whatever reason 95% of FCS fans are programmed to know that 7 D1 wins makes you playoff eligible. If you guys would be oh so kind to provide me proof that the 95% of us are wrong I'd appreciate it.
Thanks and again, you aren't making the playoffs with 6 D1 wins.

So thanks for agreeing with me that there's no rule stating you must have 7 D-I wins. I already went over the fact our chances of making the playoffs are next to nil.guinzone wrote:Here's a though UD fans, you aren't going to make it. It is that simple.

Re: Re: Playoff Field
I understand that the 7 D1 win "rule" isn't a rule at all. But the idea that Delaware is one of the "best" silly. The only reason Delaware would be chosen is on name recognition alone. (Which is why I can see them doing it)guinzone wrote:Here's a though UD fans, you aren't going to make it. It is that simple.
